1900 park fare or akershus

We have enjoyed both. Akershus twice and 1900 Park Fare (dinner) once. Tough to compare as the food is very different. Our first trip to Akershus we loved. Food was great, characters were awesome. 2nd time food was just marginal, characters were very rushed. However, the first time we had an early lunch and 2nd time we had a very late lunch, were exhausted from travel, etc. So.......our 2nd less than great experience had many contributing factors.

The food at 1900 was fine. It's a buffet. What we loved were the step sisters. Hysterical. They really were great. I have an adorable pic of my kids with goofy grins because the step sister shrieked "cheese" when we were taking the pic.

Which meal?

The character experience and food at 1900PF varies between breakfast and dinner and while the Norway princesses stay the same (well, minus shift changes and substitutions for various reasons), the breakfast buffet is standard fare, while lunch and dinner are a mix of Norwegian and American favorites.

I have never done 1900Pf for dinner...the step sisters are supposedly worth the trip and we will do it at some point, but the menu has never appealed to me. We LOVE 1900 PF for breakfast, but that's always been Mary Poppins, Alice, Mad Hatter, Pooh and TIgger on our visits. We have yet to have a good Mad Hatter and the service was horrible when we went in August, but we like the food (especially the pecan sticky bun YUM) and the remainder of the characters have been excellent for us.

We've never done Akershus for breakfast b/c I'd only do pre-park opening and the hike from the entrance to Norway just before 8am doesn't sound very appealing to me. I still regret doing it at AK for Tusker House. We have had very good lunch and dinner at Akershus...much more standard princess interaction on par with CRT, but our girls liked it. We prefer going with more ethnic foods from WS restaurants so lunch and dinner were a no brainer for us.

We have done 1900 PF for breakfast & dinner. Totally different experiences. The food is an American buffet. Breakfast was good & we left plenty full. Dinner didn't have as many options (to our liking) and wasn't that memorable. However, the character interaction at dinner was better than breakfast. Yes, the step sisters are fun. Prince Charming danced with my DD (5 at the time.) There is a parade for the kids to walk around the dining room. Great experience for us. Breakfast was VERY rushed. We were the first seating. We had hardly gotten to our table when the characters started. Didn't even have our autograph book out yet! ;) Each stopped, quick picture & signature & they were off. AND no Mad Hatter! :sad2:

Did Akershus for dinner last trip. The best thing about this meal was the characters. It's a great way to meet the princesses without standing in lines. A posed picture pkg with Belle comes with your meal. There is also a parade for the kids. The food was forgettable. Breakfast might be a better option as far as the menu. Even on the (free) DDP we paid way too much to leave hungry.

My only experiences with both are for breakast. I agree with PP - at 1900 PF Mad Hatter has not been a stand out at all for us the two times that we went. I do like the breakfast buffet selections - especially the omelet station.

I have to say that I really liked Akershus a little better for the overall experience. It didn't feel so rushed and the platter of food they deliver to your table is wonderful!!!

If I had to chose, it would be Akershus.

I was so disappointed in the character interaction at 1900 PF (breakfast). The food was good, but the characters were SO rushed! Mary Poppins barely stayed long enough for a pic, and we had to call her back to the table to sing the kids' autograph books. The Mad Hatter was really disappointing. We were really looking forward to this meal and since we weren't on the dining plan, we had to pay out of pocket and it was not worth it at all!
Next trip we are doing Akershus for breakfast, it has to be better! :)

I don't know about 1900 Park Faire because honestly, I asked my daughter if she wanted to eat with the Stepsisters and Lady Tremaine and she was adamantly, "NO!" She pretty much despises them and doesn't want to see them. I noticed that she really is against meeting all the "evil" characters.

Akershus was simply wonderful, she had lots of interaction with the princesses, had an extremely in-depth conversation with Ariel, and we had pictures and video and autographs with all 5. Not to mention the picture package with Belle. The dinner was very good, as well.

So my thought is: ask your child. They may not want to see a character, and do you really want them to run screaming from the room before you get a chance to eat?

1900 Park Fare! I've been doing this dinner buffet since I was 6 and it still remains one of my favorite meals and experiences at WDW. Like others have said, the stepsisters 100% make the dinner buffet - they're hysterical, goofy, and provide awesome memories. There's one cast member who portrays Lady Tremaine who just completely embodies the character and I'm thrilled when I see that it's her making the rounds that evening. On our most recent trip, DD was a bit cranky (dinner was at 8pm) and she brushed by to say, "Oh, stop that" - I think DD was in shock because she did stop. Thankfully I have it on video because I can't break her out of a funk when she gets into one, but a random CM can!

We have eaten at both for dinner and love both. Both restaurants offer delicious food and great character interaction. I would give a slight edge to 1900 Pf though--both for food taste and character interaction. Character interaction can't be beat at 1900 PF! With that said, we would choose 1900 PF. Either way you go, you can't go wrong.

Aukerhaus has much better character interaction.

1900 PF dinner is hysterical-- those step sisters are a hoot!

SO if you hava little princess lover, do Aukerhaus. (We did a late breakfast; my kids aren't adventurous when it comes to food. And my daughter wore her Princess costume from Halloween, and was greeted with "your highness" by the princesses who visited.)

If your kids are older, or you have a son, 1900 PF has more traditional "American" food and lots of laughs.

We have also enjoyed both Akershus and 1900 Park Fare for breakfast and dinner. If you are looking to meet princesses, Akershus is definitely the way to go. We have actually enjoy lunch there more than breakfast--we were very pleased with the lunch selections and the cold buffet bar. If it fits well into your Epcot day, then it is a great choice! That being said, we LOVE 1900 Park Fare, and my oldest daughter has chosen to have her birthday dinner there twice. Both of my girls say they love it because of Prince Charming, and they really get a kick out of Lady Tremaine! The food offerings have always been good for us, and the strawberry soup is heaven!! We find a trip to the Grand Floridian is a nice break from the MK, so we usually make an early dinner reservation and go after our mid-day break from the parks.
