so i need some help im going to be 18 next thurday and im really excited and all i really want it a tattoo. but i dont have my liceans so i was just going to get an id at rmv wait til that comes in and then go get my tattoo, but my parents dont know about any of this. but im not sure if i should, if i do i alreadt know what i want, i want it to say love in cursive on my left wrist, but please tell me what you think.

As someone who just got a tattoo for her 16th birthday, are you ABSOLUTELY sure this is what you want? How long have you been waiting for this tattoo?
Secondly, your location is not a good idea. Wrist tattoos are not good when you're young because of jobs. If you're going to get a tattoo on your wrist, I would wait until you're older with a secure job.

Thirdly, why don't your parents know? Your parents should be informed of this, but they don't have any legal hold over you because you are legal.

yeah im sure i want this, i've been waiting for this since last year. they dont know because they will just say NO, and if i bring it up then my mom will just say ohh well thats why you want to get an id and stuff like that, but this is all i want for my birthday.

I think it depends on what it is. For me, mine is in memory of my cousin so they didn't have a problem with it.

You brag about your tattoo on every thread you can and frankly, it's getting quite annoying.

Hm, this is a thread about tattoos isn't it? And the other one is about body modification, which involves tattoos, right?

Look, I know you have a personal vendetta against me, but if you don't like it, don't read it. Oh, and just so you know, this only inspires me to talk about my tattoo more. (:

And just so you know, you're probably lying about this too, mmkay? Conversation done.

On topic, I think it's a good idea. :goodvibes

If you've totally thought it through and are completely sure you want it then I'd say go for it. Try talking to your parents again explaining why you want it and help then understand it's not just something everyone does. That's my plan of action when I turn 18 in a few months.

As for the location...be careful. A lot of employeers don't like tattoos on young employees. I know every one that has a visable tattoo where I work has to have it covered at all time while on the clock.

Make sure it's something you are a 110% sure you want. My cousin regrets her a few years later....

Like I said, personal vendetta.

OP, if you're 18, your parents legally can't say no. And, you don't need a license as ID. My place needed 2 IDs, so I took my school ID and my birth certificate. I think social security cards and learner's permits are okay too, but I'm not sure.

thats true but most of the threads are related to tattoo's.
she's just giving advice based on her experience, and plus she got it pretty recently so she's excited.

If you have your passport or birth certificate or health card you should be good. Those are all acceptable forms of ID as well.

I wouldn't get a tattoo without informing my parents first, and if you get it on yourwrist they'll see it anyway, won't they :confused3

Just really think about it okay? I wanted one when I was 18 as well, I still want one but Ive been mulling over what to get for the past 2 yrs, don't want something I'll regret.

BUT, If i DID have a tattoo I'd definitely brag about it too ;)

Your tattoo idea sounds really cute. Maybe try drawing it on your wrist just to get an idea what it'll look like. If you ever gets problems in the future from a job or something you can always wear a watch or bracelet to hide most of it, but it depends on the size.

Before you get one, think of how it will look on your wrist when you are in your 80s or 70s and wrinkly :scared:

It looks cute now but when you are older .. bleh. [No offense to anyones grandparents, friends, parents, etc..]

They are just so ..permanent. I could never get one because I hate needles.

I have absolutley no experience in this what-so-ever, but I'm just gonna go right ahead and give my opinion.

I totally agree with what Sonya said about the whole job thing. It's a really important thing to think about.
Also, don't just jump at a chance to get this tattoo once you have your ID ready and stuff. Weigh out all the options.

If you do get it, I wish you the best of luck.
I'm sure it'll look great! :goodvibes

Okay, are your parents paying for anything of yours? Do you live with them? Do they pay for your car? Do they pay your college tuition? If so, then they most definitely have a say in this.

Turning 18 doesn't magically make you an adult. You need to stop and THINK about this and how it will affect your future. TBH, if I was hiring someone, I wouldn't want them to have any visible tattoos, as it turns off a lot of people. You WILL have a problem finding a job.

Also, does it even MEAN anything to you? 'Love' across the wrist. Do you realize how many teenagers on the planet want this tattoo? Do you have any particular reason for getting it, or do you just WANT it?

The other common one is a butterfly. My friend has a HUGE one on her waist.
My sister has a tiny one on her lower back

What's your school's policy about tattoos? Mine says in the handbook "no visible tattoos".
