The next time we cruise our son will be 18. He would really like to be able to go back to CG. I think that I read a long time ago on these boards that 18 year olds are allowed to choose between the teen areas and the adult areas...but they can't bounce back and forth--they either have to be a teen or an adult for the entire cruise...which is fine with him. (He'd really like to be a "Lost Boy"!) Has anyone had any experiences with this?

Sorry no personal experience with an 18 in CG....as soon as my DD hit 18 she could not wait to get out of Common Grounds....she really enjoyed the adult comedy shows and theme nights in the club.

But I have heard that they can choose between the two. Just have him go to the meet and greet the first night and ask the counselors (though since he is 18 he will not get the invitation to this in the cabin) about it. He should just show up.

Anne, they will take the kids on a case by case basis. They don't want a "mature" 18 year old scoffing at the 13 year olds, if you know what I mean. I'm sure your son is not like that, he has been there before and I'm glad he had a great experience. My 2 kids love it there and when my DD turned 18 the second day of our cruise it was no problem.
:)

All you can do is ask, it can't hurt.

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks MJ and Cathy! DS has some learning and developmental disabilities, so even though the calendar will say "18", he'll really be more like a 16-17 year old. He has matured a lot in the past year, but he still generally prefers the company of kids a little younger than him. He would probably be happy if they'd let him hang out in the Lab the entire cruise LOL!

I know what you mean about scoffing at younger kids, a lot of teens can't wait to grow up. He's not one of them...he refuses to get a learners permit--says his bike is quite fine for him, thank you. So he really fits right in with the age group at CG much more than any of the adult activities.

He'll be thrilled to hear that he'll probably be allowed to participate!

I am sure he won't have a problem then at CG....as you know, the counselors are wonderful and I am sure you would have to just double check, but I can't see it being a problem!!! Have a great cruise!!!
