UPDATE : no longer a rumor
-----------------------------
No official word on the web, but this is from a reliable source on another board.

It has been reported that it "will close September 4th" (unsure if that means the 3rd or 4th will be last day of operation.) On September 7, it will become 3 lanes for taxis, and loading/unloading of passengers.

(As for its location, see "G" on the first photo of this page)

I really hope that isn't true. My Mom has used that to drop me off at the parks so many times. This will make things so much troublesome for day trips.

Could be worse,,,,,Disney could charge $5 for the privilage to use it. :rolleyes1

(I shouldn't be giving them any ideas) :sad2:

When we were there in earlier this month it was always closed off. I think this could be a good idea.

Sounds like it will become more efficient, yes?

After a strangely long and tiring day, we walked to the transportation area on our way to our walk back to our hotel (which was over a mile away), and our feet wanted to give up. We asked the transportation CM (interrupting her extremely important pin trading business  ) where the cabs were, thinking they were up at the front of the transportation area. She said that we needed to go through DTD, to the back of RFC, and that's where cabs were.

Our feet said this: :scared:

We continued forth to trudge to the hotel (by the time we walked back and through DTD we would have walked the distance to get nearly back to the hotel), and as we walked along the sidewalk through the 15 minute lot, a rogue cabbie was driving through and we grabbed his cab. The CM had said cabs are not supposed to be there picking up passengers.

So now this WILL be a drop off/pick up area, and cabs can be there? Sounds good to me!

She will still be able to do exactly that. Drop you off. That's exactly what its sole purpose will now be.

Umm, for those with disabled placards, they could legally park there longer than 15 minutes per California state law. My guess is more people had become aware of this and have started using the law to get free parking. So this change is probably meant to get them out of there and paying money for parking.

The only downside is for pickup. If your intended passenger was not already waiting when you arrived you could pull up and park for a few as they made their way over. Now they have to get there first.
