A co-worker & I were talking about bathing suits. She was trying to find one for her 15yo dd. I told her about a sale I saw. I said "they're <the bathing suits> great for "kids". She said "she's NOT a kid". :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Maybe she meant that her 15 year old doesn't wear "kid" sizes. My 12 yr old DD can't wear kid sizes. She is in Juniors and believe me it is hard to find a 2 piece swimsuit in junior sizes that is appropriate for a 12 yr old.

Anyway, that was just a thought about what she might have meant about her DD not being a kid. :confused3

:/ Well what kind of bathing suits were you reffering to? Maybe she meant that in realms of clothing most 15-year-olds don't wear one-piece bathing suits and such. Heck, I'm 15 and all my friends and I are in the bikini/string bikini type bathing suits. :confused3

Just thought I would add that my mother still calls my DH and I "the kids". I am 38 and he is 50!! I like being referred to as a kid or at least I would like to think that I am still one. :lmao:

I suspect shopping for a bathing suit has just emphasized to mom that her daughter has an, um, adult body in some ways.

Her dd is 5'10". I specifically said they had the suits in adult sizes as well as childrens sizes. The suits were 1 piece (fairly modest by today's standards) with a racing back that are good for actual swimming as opposed to "sunning".

I would think that it was your mention of the one-piece bathing suit then. Around here if you aren't on the swim team and at practice you're pretty much in a bikini.

I am 20 don't you DARE try telling me I am an Adult... I will be a kid untill i have kids... that is the way I look at it. : )

I have a DS(14). Yes, he's a kid. He can start dressing & acting like an adult, when he becomes one. If I had a girl, I'd be even worse. I'm sure there's a lot of teenage girls out there who are glad I'm not their mom. :rotfl2:

Im thinking this is what the mom was meaning by "not a kid".

I would take that to mean she shops in the women's section for bathing suits. My dd has been since she turned 12.
She was speaking of size, not her being a "kid".

As far as clothing goes Kids sizes only go to 16 if you can find them 12 is the norm. Woman runs even 0-2-4-6-8 ect. Juniors runs odd 1-3-5-7-9-11-13.

I agree that she meant her daughter was too "mature" to buy a suit in the "kid's" department. I remember my mother trying to buy things for me in "kid" sizes when I was already a "young woman" size-wise.

She finally broke down and bought me my first bra when I was 13 &1/2...size 32 C! Talk about overlooking the obvious!

I suspect that this mother means that her daughter is developed enough (as I was at 15) that she needs to look in the regular or juniors women's dept, not the "kid's." I know of 15 year old "girls" who are too "curvey" to fit in the teen suits; they really need more support, so have to look in the junior, misses, or even women's dept.

Why all the mystery here, folks? 15 is NOT a kid. 15 isn't an adult either, but it's silly to insist that she's a "kid." 15 is a teenager, and much closer to being an adult than to being a kid.

I bet that she meant size. There's no way a 15 year old can still wear kid sizes.

Yeah, I'm thinking when you said "They're good for kids" she thought you were referring to little kids...not teen kids. My girls are my kids...but they are not "kids"...they are teens. I haven't shopped in the kids department in 2 years and my youngest just turned 13!
