Okay, I'm just getting used to him not watching BARNEY... NOW THIS???

I looked at my son's chin and thought it was dirty. A closer look and saw it was HAIR!!! :scared1: Sorry, never raised a male, no brothers, so this is all new to me.

It's getting longer and scraggly. My question... should he start (God forbid) SHAVING now or should we take it off via a depilatory. He said the kids in school noticed it, too, and are picking on him... you know kids, he wants it GONE.

I shouldn't be shocked, his father was a BEAR... I'm afraid he's following his lead.

What should we do????

14ish is pretty average to start shaving.

Buy him a good razor, cream, and maybe some of that stuff to prevent ingrown hairs and show him the ropes.

Your baby is growing up! :thumbsup2

Good Lord, don't use a depilatory on his face!

I know PLENTY of 14-year-old boys that shave...it's time for a razor and some shaving cream, mama...and take a picture. Your baby boy is growing up! :)

I know he's going to think this is "too girly" for a 14 y/o but buy a facewash and wash his face before hand (something with a scrub in it)...it makes shaving better because it will get rid of some of the dead skin on his face before he shaves.

That might be something to ease him into though. :rotfl:

As the mom of two DS' (24&21), you literally turn around and there they are your once babies are now taller than you, growing a beard, voice changing right before your very eyes!!!

I told one of my closest friends on the DIS just yesterday, "ahhh, the authority I had when I was the TALLER one" :lmao: ...but now with them 6 feet tall, they pat me on the head, even pick me up!!! :upsidedow

Good Lord. How time flies. Somehow i just cannot picture a grown man Michael. You need to post pictures, Robin, or send me his latest pic. I bet he is one handsome devil.

Good luck with the shaving, LOL. My kids are blonde/blondish with fine hair so probably won't have this issue until they are a bit older....or at least I hope so! :scared1:

My BABY!

I guess I'm out of the loop, I still think he's a child... even though he's 6 inches taller than me and wears a size 14 shoe...

No, I don't think he'll think that's "girly" Tim. He's an performer and uses... MAKEUP!! :rotfl: If he got over that the face wash will be a cakewalk.

Thanks for updating the clueless, guys...

I hate having a beard, which is rich coming from me as I tend to have a permanent haze of stubble.

Buy him a razor - wet or electric (electric may be a better option to start with - less cutting yourself and not so much of a need to shave perfectly).

That's so cute! :)

I will as soon as I can get one that he's not making a face!! Time does fly... it scares me.

Michael is fair with very black hair, so the hair is VERY noticeable. Since he's so into GIRLS, this has GOT to GO... they're so vain at this age...

My gosh, you guys seem to mature earlier than we do over here. 14 and a beard? I hardly needed to shave before 19 or so. Sigh, I still don't have a full facial hair complement at 29. That just sucks.

I was skeptical of that, I remember breaking out years ago from trying one on my face. That's why I LOVE the DIS!!

Any suggestions on what kind to buy?

Thanks!

I remember by high school (9th grade) there were kids walking around with mustaches.

If you can believe this, my 11 YO DD is needing to shave before my 16 YO DS. :confused3

He actually needs to, but he's refusing. He says that once he starts, it'll grow in thicker and he'll never be able to quit. That might be true, but he's starting to look shaggy!

That was my thought. My DS is lucky--or not, depending on your POV--and at 21 only needs to shave once a week or so. He's still using an electric because hit or miss isn't a big problem. To my knowledge he hasn't ever cut himself with it. I'm sure if he used a regular razor he might as well wrap his head in a roll of TP. :rolleyes1

The big trick with an electric is to use some pre-shave first.

My 14 year old received an electric razor for Christmas. I think my 18 year old started shaving around 14 too. He is like an ape though :scared: . He just started taking care to groom the unibrow. I told him he needs to trim the underarm hair next.

TMI girl, TMI! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Robin, my Michael was growing facial hair at 14, too. I swear he looks older in his 8th grade pictures than his youngest brother does now at 18!!! :teeth:

How tall is your Michael now? :)

This thread makes me want to cry. Why do our kids have to grow up so darn fast??

My son(15) doesn't have a beard yet, but he's had a noticeable mustache for about a year now.

He's taller than I am.

And that voice.:confused3

He attended his first semiformal sweet 16 a few weeks ago. The whole time was getting ready, I kept thinking I was just taking him to parties at Chuck E. Cheese.

In two short years, he'll be decided which college to attend.:scared1:
