1437 Miles From Mississippi to Magical and Back

After Beauty & The Beast was over, we headed back across the park towards an attraction my husband had been looking forward to since seeing it on t.v. earlier in the week.

Star Tours had only a 5 minute wait. We rode it twice.

Jamie is a huge fan of Star Wars and he loved it! He says that he could have ridden it all day to see how many different scenarios he could go through. Madilyn and I both thought it was really fun. After the second ride, Marie got sick and had to make a dash for the nearest restroom. I've never heard of 3D movies or rides affecting someone they way they do her :confused3 I was concerned about her. It was almost time for our lunch reservation and I was afraid that food might make her sick again, but she said that she was ready for something to eat. We spent some time in the Star Tours gift shop before heading over to 50s Prime Time Cafe.

Wow what a priceless moment for Maddie.Bet the rose is in her room now. YOu have such a busy day I hope most of you don't become sick, but I see some foreshadowing here.

Our lunch reservation was for 1:30. We checked into the restaraunt at 1:20 and only had to wait a few minutes before the "Smith kids" were called for a table. We enjoyed the opportunity to have a look around while we were waiting.

We were seated in a small dining room off the main one. There were only about five tables in this section and only one other one was occupied.

355.jpg

I can't remember our server's name, but he was really nice. He made us set the table and was quick to say "No elbows on the table unless you're coloring!" I thought this was nice because it didn't make Maddy feel like she couldn't keep right on coloring.

He didn't pick on us much after that except to tell Jamie that the sampler platter was just "Mom's leftovers." Jamie got the sampler. Marie and I both got the fried chicken. Madilyn got chicken nuggets...again. All the girls had milk shakes, but Jamie had a coke. The food was all really good and the milk shakes were heavenly :goodvibes Jamie was the only one who had room for dessert and he got some kind of cobbler with ice cream on top.

I had been leaving the suggested 18% tip all week, but I left this server 20% mainly because the meal was so much cheaper than the others we had had. He was a really good server and he picked on us just the right amount ;) I used my credit card for this tip since we had already checked out of our room.

Marie said that she felt better now that she'd had some home cooking, but that she would not be getting back on Star Tours. We headed over to Voyage of the Little Mermaid. I think we were all happy to sit and let our food settle. It was a cool show, but not my favorite of the trip.

That's a REAL BIG deal IMO!!! It's things like this that she will remember for the rest of her life. Fantastic!!! :thumbsup2

I really hope she will! I hope she's not too young to remember this trip!

She was actually showing that rose off to the little girl who lives across the street from us just last night! I'll go ahead and tell you: Marie got sick before we left the park, but Madilyn waited until we were almost back to Lake City that night.

When we came out of Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Maddy got a high five from Jake of Jake and the Neverland Pirates while we were headed to the stroller parking area. She loves that show and was tickled to see him even though it was a very brief encounter. This is the point that Madilyn started getting under my skin. Even though we had rented her a stroller, she decided that she would rather be carried. :headache: We noticed the crowd forming along the sidewalks from the park entrance to the sorcerer's hat. Marie checked her watch and we decide to try to find a spot for the parade. We had a lot harder time finding a piece of sidewalk here than we had at Magic Kingdom on Tuesday.

We took a lot of pictures of the parade, but I think some of them may be out of order.

The Mr. Potato Head in the Pixar Parade was the last thing on our vacation that I took a picture of. When the parade was over, Maddy said that she wanted a snack. She wouldn't ride in the stroller so I left it with her daddy and Marie while Maddy and I ran in Starring Rolls. I told her to pick out anything she wanted. She decided on a strawberry parfait, something that she usually really likes. When we got back to the table where Marie and Jamie were waiting, she took one bite and spit it down the front of her shirt. Marie took a few bites and said that it tasted fine, but Maddy wouldn't try it again. I asked her if she wanted to get something else, but she said no. She did drink some water from her mug.

Our last plan of the day was to see Lights, Motors Action at 4:15, but we still had some time to spare. We went back to Rockin' Roller Coaster, but had to go through the single rider line because the wait time was now posted at 45 minutes :crazy2: I was able to ride with both Jamie and Marie. After our "one last ride" we headed to the arena to see the cars and motorcycles do their thing.

I made Madilyn get in her stroller, but she kept trying to get out of it while I was pushing it. I finally told her she could just get out and walk. :sad2: She started begging us to pick her up and carry her. I pushed the stroller into the parking area and finally found a spot. Maddy kept begging to be carried. I finally grabbed her up, handed her to my husband and said "You take her! I just can't deal with her!" and started crying. I think it was a combination of being tired and knowing that our wonderful vacation that I had spent so much time planning was about to be over, but I was suddenly an emotional wreck! I told Jamie and Marie to take Maddy and go see the show, I would catch up with them later.

I went into the bathrooms at the entrance to Lights, Motors Action just to cry. Thankfully, no one else was in the bathroom to see my meltdown. Once I was all cried out, I used our last snack credit to get a big Sprite from a cart. I went into the bleachers and spotted Marie waving down at me. The show had already started, but she had saved me a spot. In hindsight, we really tried to cram too much into our last afternoon at Disney World and we probably should have headed home right after lunch. My gear head husband did enjoy the stunt show, though :upsidedow

I made Madilyn ride in the stroller back to the front of the park. After we turned in the stroller, we caught the bus back to the Polynesian. We filled our mugs up at Captain Cooks one last time before getting in our car and heading back to the Red Roof Inn in Lake City.

When we were about two miles from the Lake City Exit, Madilyn started throwing up in the back seat. :scared: We cleaned her up as best we could in the car. As soon as we got to the hotel and checked in, I put her in the bathtub. Most of her new stuffed animals went into garbage bags and had to be washed when we got home. Once she was clean, I tucked her into bed and she went right to sleep. I don't know if it was something she ate or a bug, but she felt much better the next morning and thankfully no one else was sick. We stopped at Chick Fil A in Tallahassee and Target in Mobile, but had an uneventful drive home.

Our first family vacation and first trip to Disney World was better than I could ever have hoped for! We were so lucky to stay at the Polynesian (my dream resort!). I really enjoyed the reading trip reports here on the DISboards and I hope that others will enjoy reading this one!

Marie- feel free to invite yourself to go on vacation with us anytime! I hope that next time Chris will come, too. Thanks for putting up with my family for a whole week and still speaking to us when we got home!

Jamie, Madilyn, and I are going to Pigeon Forge next December, but hopefully we will be able to go back to Disney World in 2014. Jamie is voting for another stay at the Polynesian, but I'm hoping for Beach Club. Realisticly, we may end up staying at a moderate next time. Probably Port Orleans French Quarter (I'm reading your trip report Quelia) or Coranado Springs.

After talking with Marie last night, I think it's very likely that we will be going back to Disney World in September 2014. Coronado Springs and Port Orleans French Quarter are the resorts we're discussing staying at. Hopefully free dining will be available again! Here are some things that I'd like to do on this or another future trip ;)

Disney Bucket List

Stay at Beach Club when $ permits and spend time at Stormalong Bay
See Fantasmic
See Wishes in the park
See Illuminations from a different spot
Ride Test Track
See Jammin Jungle Parade
See Festival of the Lion King
Have lunch at Le Cellier
Sit closer to tanks at Coral Reef
My own piece of lemon cheesecake at Grand Floridian Café ::yes::
Visit Downtown Disney
Have beniets at one of the Port Orleans resorts
Visit During Holidays and see Osborn Lights
Studio Backlot Tour
Art of Animation
Ride big rides with Madilyn
Snack Around the World
See new part of Fantasyland Expansion
Late start at Animal Kingdom
Have another trip with Marie and convince Chris to come
Convince my parents to come

I'm going to wrap up this trip report with a few photos from Marie's wedding which took place at Pierce Castle in Decatur, MS (about two miles from my house, actually) the weekend after we got back from our trip to Disney World. Congratulations, Marie and Chris! It was lovely :lovestruc

Glad y'all had a great time at WDW. I wish so much now that we would have taken our kids when they were younger more than the one time we went in 1997 (they were 13, 13, 10). Maybe we can make up for it now!
