13th Birthday at Disneyland/CA Adventure

I am taking my son to Disneyland and CA Adventure for his 13th birthday next weekend and am debating the birthday party they do for $15 each at the birthday plaza(with the decorate your own cakes). We are on a very tight budget so don’t want to spend the money here if it’s better spent elsewhere. Is the birthday party experience only good for very young children? Any ideas for birthday freebies?? We will be there 4 days before his 13th b-day. Also going to Knott’s for a day. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!

What a dream!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky kid I've never done any of the party things before. I hope someone has some good advise for you. I do know that you can arrange for birthday cakes and stuff for desert at a few places. We had a birthday cupcake for my little guy (5) at goofy's Kitchen, a birthday beignet at New Orleans and a celebration desert thingy at Blue Bayou. We also got the volcano cake at Rainforest cafe which was a lot of fun. We stayed for 10 days so my little guy had the longest birthday ever. Will he wear a birthday badge? It's fun when everyone wishes you a happy birthday.

I might be more excited than he is!! He will definitely be wearing a button. I read somewhere that Roz might sing to you on the Mike and Sully ride if you have one on. Any other birthday tips out there??

Are you guys staying on site? If so, let your hotel know about your son's birthday when you check in. Sometimes they will do something special for your son ranging from autographed character pictures and Birthday buttons to balloons in your room. He should have an autograph book when he wears the button. He will receive special Birthday greetings from the Characters. Tell the server about the Birthday at all meals in the parks and Disneyland Resort Hotels.

no we will be doing a little walking on this vacation. But that's better than driving! I haven't heard of the autograph book before. Thanks!
