13 year old birthday party- need ideas.

My son turns 13 next weekend. He wants 6 boys to sleepover and camp out in the backyard. Not sure how to keep them entertained. Not sure what is "cool" for this age.

He said no to going to the movies, golf, baseball game, bowling. I thought it would be easier to take them somewhere. So if we stay here what can I do w/ them?

I thought hot dogs and smores over the firepit but not sure what else to do.

Any ideas?

Laser Tag? Paint ball is fun, but it hurts. Is there an arcade? Kids like video games right? 13 is a hard group to please! Good luck!

maybe you could have some survivor type activities like eating weird foods (spam, pickled onions, pigs' feet) or something. boys love gross stuff.

I think the setting up of the tent and making of the fire could be the activities too...that should keep them occupied for a looong while

At 13 they will probably have a list of things they will want to do without you. Have a flashlight for each boy, the bonfire sounds fine but other then that they will probably take care of the games themselves.

I agree, have them pitch the tent, build the fire and have a flashlight and you should be good to go. Just make sure you have plenty of food!

An axe to 13 yr old boys? I wouldnt want my son to go to that party... lol

My son is 11. He is in boy scouts. They learn how to use an axe safely.An adult would have to supervise and set up a "safte zone". Of course, make sure the parents are ok.



Let me tell you chopping wood burns a lot of energy.

It doesn't really go with your theme... but we had a surprise POKER party for my DS14. It was a huge hit. We had a neighbor who came and was the guest dealer. He wore a tux jacket and shirt and tie. He really played it up and made it fun, fun, fun. He taught them and dealt all evening. I provided lots of candy for betting. That and pizza and some time running aroudn the yard, kept 12 boys busy for 4 hours!

For 13 he had a sleepover and they all played video games all night... and we went to the pool.

Are 13 year olds too old for Nerf Guns? My 10 year old DS and his friends love them. DS has at least 12 Nerf guns in all sizes. For his 10th b-day he had a Nerf Gun battle birthday party at the park. The boys ran around for a couple of hours with their Nerf guns. There were some older boys at the park that DS knew (older siblings of some friends) who joined in with extra guns that were brought along.

After that we took them out for pizza and then they played at the house where they jumped on the trampoline, watched a movie and camped out in the livingroom (it was winter, so too cold to sleep outside).

Maybe a Nerf gun battle in the back yard would be fun if they haven't outgrown that sort of thing yet, that is.

how true!! Thanks guys for all these ideas. I love the idea of pitching their own tent - should be fun to watch. i will get lots of flashlights too.

I mostly agree to leave them to their own devices--and have plenty of food on hand. One other idea though that could keep them busy and goes with the them is to have them tie dye T shirts.
