12x18 frames?

Anyone know a good bricks and mortar place to pick up 12x18 frames? How about online (yes, I will search too, just wondering if anyone had a recommendation).

I imagine stores are going to start putting out more 4x6 ratio frames...I hope!

Do you have Christmas Tree Shops? Their prices are always lowest, so I start there when looking for frames. I recently got a 27x41 with collage mat for 41 photos...for $19.99. Then I saw the exact same frame at Linen&Things (or Bed Bath & Beyond) for $29.99. http://www.christmastreeshops.com/

Michael's modular aluminum frames are pretty good. A.C. Moore has some similar ones. Both of these stores usually have coupons in the newspaper for 40% off one item.
I buy plastic (0.080" or 0.100") from Lowe's or Home Depot and cut it to fit.

I think the Christmas Tree Shops are a Southeastern New England thing though I could be wrong, they have been expanding quite a bit in the last few years.

As for Michaels, this week (though 12/16 at least) all their frames are 40% off without a coupon. I'll only buy them when they are at least 40% off if I need one. When they have the 50% off coupon and the frames are not already on sale I will pick up 1 or 2 to have. I usually get the $30 ones when they're available at 50% off. I like the wider frame edges, especially for my 8x12 prints. I put them in a 12x16 frame with a mat.

Thanks; I had checked Michael's online before I posted, but didn't come up w/ any in that size. I'll stop by the store.

I lived in New England for a long time - I love Christmas Tree Shop! alas, none around here!

ETA: I called Michael's; they said they don't carry that size. I'll keep you posted on what I find!

I checked Michaels and A.C Moore and at both places the employees looked at me like I had two heads. I was politely informed that prints that size don't exist, the standard size is 11x17.

I've decided to make my own. My father is a cabinet maker with all of the router/shaper bits anyone could ever need. Run some stock through the shaper, cut it to size with the guillotine cutter & stick it together with some glue & V-nails. Easy as that. Once the jigs are built I think I could knock them out at a pretty good rate. Hit 'em with the HVLP sprayer and Bob's your uncle (or something like that).

Think anyone would be interested in 8X12 or 12X18 picture frames (maybe 12X16 or 16x22 so we could add mats)? Maybe I could make my fortune on Ebay!

i know some places sell individual sides for frames you jointed with those little wavy metal strips( highly technical term, they look like tiny pieces of corrugated cardboard but metal and not top or bottom cardboard layer, just the inside...in other words don't look like corrugated cardboard at all now that i think of it )so could you get 2 12s and 2 8 and put them together? ( i know joanns by us used to carry them and i thought Michael's did cause i have been tearing my hair out for 2 yrs searching for stretchers for a painting daughter bought me from France that is 7 1/2 by 9 inches..thinking i will be visiting some little Amish cabinet maker soon for help since sometimes they are cheaper than normal places)

then maybe go to hardware store and get plexiglass/glass to fit if you want them protected

Amen. When I priced out mats for an 8x12 print because the only 12x18 mats they had were for 9x12 prints, I told the woman at the frame shop at Michaels that 8x12 was a more standard print size and she firmly jumped in and said NO its 8x10. Which is when I told her, that may have been the case before, but with digital prints on dSLR's the sensor size is for 4x6 which when enlarged would make 8x12, with an 8x10 you lose 2 inches from your original picture. It was also pretty much the same for film because many 8x10's I enlarged were missing part of the picture so thats when I started with 8x12's so I wouldn't lose part of my picture. She really didn't have an answer to that. They never really should have come up with the 8x10 size. GRRRRRR

If you don't need your frame today, this is a good option. The prices are cheaper then what you can get in Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. and they can cut a frame to down to a fraction of an inch. Also right now they are offering a free mat board with any custom frame. One other note - they will send you free - small samples of the frame so you can see if you like it before placing the order.
