12/5-9 vs 12/12-16 Availability???

I'm finding next to no availability for the first set of dates and decent availability for the second.
According to Mousesavers (and logic) the second set of dates should be much busier based on the proximity to Christmas.
Any explanations for this?

Sometimes you have to take out the promo code to find availability. For instance Im paying Rack Rate in order to stay at POFQ instead of using the discount promo. The difference in price is only about 10-15 dollars per night.

I would suggest trying this for Mods or Values.

Also look at split stays. I always do split stays TBH. Disney makes it very easy and that way you can check out two resorts.

The first week of December is Pop Warner and Cheerleading competitions. Values and some mods have been booked for many, many months. What you're seeing has been typical for many years now.

Pop Warner and the cheerleading competitions bring a lot of people and fill up a ton of rooms. But the parks aren't affected much, particularly during the day, as the kids are busy over at the Wide World of Sports complex.
