Okay so I followed instructions that were on the fish extender thread but I did modify them a bit.
I used:
2 pieces of material for the back (36" by 8")
2 pieces of material for each pocket (8" by 7")
double wide bias tape
8" dowel rod that is 3/8"
2 3/8" dowel rod caps
leftover ribbon to hang it with
You can definately do this no-sew with fabric glue. I decided to sew it since I knew we would use it again next year and I'm impatient about letting things dry. I used 1/2" seams on everything.
1. Sew the pockets together (right sides together) leaving the side open to turn.
2. Sew the back together (right sides together) leaving the top open to turn.
The next part, I didn't do it this way but it made sense after I did mine.
3. Pin the pockets where you want them on the backing. Then, pin the bias tape around the outside. Sew around the bias tape to keep the pockets and bias tape in place.
I wished I would have thought that out before I did mine but I guess you learn something new each time you do something.
4. I used glue to make the insert for the dowel rod. I have about a 1" pocket for the dowel rod. I just used craft clue and kept it in place ovenight with clothes pins.
5. I painted my dowel rod and glued the ends on. I then hot glued my ribbon onto the dowel.
The fun part was the iron on transfers. I don't like doing those and really would have prefered embroidery but I'm happy with how it turned out. If you were to do embroidery on the pockets do that before you sew them on.
I hope this helps. I'm going to get my crying baby from his nap since the mowers woke him up (all about timing

).
I'll let you know if I need help with my shirts--which I probably will.
