Same here. I assumed Kat would tell us how much we owed her and we'd pay her when we got there.

So, Kat, if you are not accepting cash, find me when you get on board, and I'll buy you the beverage of your choice.

Nope, Dee and I are giving them as Christmas gifts to our fellow DISers! :santa:

Hi Kat :sunny:
That is alot of work...and appreciated more than you know.
I know that you and Dee are spliting the cost...would it help to have a 3rd person chip in? don't want to rain on your parade and intrude in your offer but if a 3rd person chipping in $ would help then let me know and divide the cost 3 ways instead of 2 ways. I can send you $ know or when I see you...no problem mailing you both a check!
If you say no...that you want it to only be your special gift I will not get offended. Just thought the extra cash would be nice for you to have for the cruise.. :teeth:

Robin :)

No, we appreciate the offer, Robin, but this is our gift to our fellow DISers! :santa:

Well, it sounds like you guys will be the reason the rum is always gone. If all Dis-ers buy each of you a drink.....

I have a question...
I have let my boys check in and out of the Lab after 2-3 days(untill familure with the ship and rules again) on the ship. They have to go together and they both have walkie talkies because if they are in the Arcade and one desides to get food or go in the pool we can keep track of them.
Do any of you let there children check in and out? Branden is 12 and will be allowed to check out with his older friends and our friend Ashley who will be joining us with her parents.
Michael is allowed to go on his own as long as I go where he is and bring him where he wants to go. I will drop him off at the Theater and he can watch the movie by himself but as soon as he is ready to go he needs to page me on his walkie Talkie and I go and get him.
Just wondering because If he goes without me he needs to buddy up with someone. :)
Robin

If all the 10 years hang out together that may work. I'd prefer it if Samantha not wander on her own either, though I also know how much trouble kids can get into if left to their own devices!! But I think if we get them all together and give them all the same rules (no yelling and running around driving other passengers crazy, no swimming without one of the parents present, no taking things off other people's door, things like that) they should be ok. I am NOT letting her have charging privelages otherwise she'd be getting arcade cards and buying things in the shops. I will buy her an arcade card and when it is gone it is gone.

What do you other parents of the kids in this age group think? Do we want to come up with a standard set of rules for the kids to follow if the want to be able to sign themselves in and out of the clubs? If they all have the same rules it might be easier for them to stay in line and if we require them to have a buddy at all times it might ease all of our concerns as well. Any thoughts......

Yikes! I haven't even thought about the door yet...I don't remember that from prior cruises...if you do some graphics, I can't offer to buy you a drink, but.. And we attach them with magnet? I didn't remember that the doors were metal, but makes sense--I can find those easily..

By the way, I've been meaning to ask about the whole board thing. I've seen references to it in this thread and others, but have no idea what people are talking about....I'm thinking it's a fancy version of those white board things people put on dorm room doors for notes and message???

I'm sounding like a novice now!

The only board I know of is this one, this is the DIS Board.

Door signs are printed on magnetic papers, or laminated paper with magnetic strips attached (take your pick, depends mainly on what your printer can handle).

The boards are the DIS boards.

If I give Keith sign-out privileges he will be the first missing person on DCL. I'm not taking the chance. How a child with a 144 IQ can be so immature is beyond me, but he's proven time and again that he cannot be trusted, left to his own devices.

Don't get me wrong -- he's a great kid with a heart of gold and I love him to pieces. He's just extremely immature. So no sign-out privileges for him. More's the pity -- he would have fun with our group of DIS kids!

Well, if Tuesday's orthodontist appointment goes well (we can wait, or take our time paying), I'd be happy to coordinate.

Thanks for the PD, you guys! At least the initial consultation is free! Yeah!
I'm going to suggest one last piece of advice....because braces are part of our life right now...don't schedule anything with them the last week before you leave. My fourteen year old is finished with braces and like I said my high schooler is in them now. Both had certain visits where they were so sore after that they couldn't eat, felt sick, headaches, etc. Sometimes it would take up to a week before they could resume normal life. You don't want them adjusting or doing anything and having to deal with it while you're supposed to be having fun. Plan your visits around the trip--nothing is urgent!

It sounds like he could be a candidate for a palatal expander. If so, try to put that off until after the trip. They attach them like braces and it's purpose is to widen the jaw area. The problem is that you have to adjust it nightly for awhile. It's not fun.

Not trying to scare you, braces are common for kids these days and they get through them, but there's no reason not to make it as easy as you can for both of you.

OK, Dee, we have something else in common. My middle child especially is a mess. He's 14, really smart, and can't keep himself together at all. He hasn't done any mischief common to some of the kids his age but it's the little things--like doing homework and forgetting to turn it in! I've been told for years that it is common for highly intelligent and gifted kids to be ditzy, but just because they know it's normal they don't (and shouldn't) give him any breaks.

In fact, we have a conference next Thursday....partly because of bad grades--not on tests and stuff, just missing work, much of which I watch him do! (Sigh)

So I know how you feel about Keith.

Thanks for the clarification on signs/boards, etc. But people do signs that can be written on, correct?

TGIF and fall break has begun. No more school until the 18th!

Well one very busy week down! Almost. No school today so . . . what shall we do? Think we are going swimming and DH is taking Ryan and his friend fishing. Shopping?!?

I made my very first pineapple tree yesterday. It didn't even fall over during our regional conference of Eagles. :cool1: :cheer2:

I'm there with you...my 12 soon to be 13(My Tween) also in the gifted and talented education,Hi IQ and very Artistic, and is straight A's...however..he like your childrens brains are rewireing...a medical fact..they will show no common sense,no good judgement for the most part. and so many other things...be sure not to take it personally...This will also continue until around age 17.
A very good book to read is "Yes,Your Teen Is Crazy" loving your kid without loosing your mind" by Michael j. Bradley. This book has been a WInner of the parent choice awards and the National Parenting Center....Great book
This book has taught me how to understand what he is going through and how to deal with his issues.
As for letting him check himself in and out of the Lab ,he will be allowed. He has shown me in the past that he can be responsible on the ship. I do keep track of him with the walkie talkies and sometimes follow him without him knowing to be sure he is not running a muck. He knows that if I catch him doing what he should not be doing his privaledge for that day are revoked, luckly only had to do that once and he hated it. As for my 10 y.o he also can check himself in and out but only on the buddy system.

Robin :)

WHOO HOOO JEN!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: Are you going anywhere for break or are you staying put and having some fun?

Thanks Robin for the book tip. Everything helps. I might pick up a copy, and I know many of his friends I can pass it on to! They seem to have a little group that is all the same--and you KNOW how much the teachers love that! ;) (Then I'll get it back and re-read it for son #3.) I will say that some maturity is emerging (albeit slowly--just imagine how bad it was before! :rolleyes1 )

My 16 year old has his own wiring problems, and is disorganized, but is so responsible that he gets things taken care of so he doesn't have the same challenges.

Interesting thought--we know miss Jen is a bright one, all we have to do is look at her websites. Several have already posted about crazy but intelligent children, I'm thinking being raised Disney must be good for the brain! Ya think? :earsboy: :earsgirl:

ROFL :rotfl2: You have to love those Teachers...I call both my son's group of boys "The Rat Pack" They do everything together, including feeding off each other..lol..I am so involved with my kids schools that nothing gets past me...My 7th grader knows that I here from his Teachers everyweek...not about him...but am what is called a "Lead Parent" so I help the Teachers and Dean with everything so instead of meeting at the school all the time we e-mail...and if any problems I know and I also can keep up on his grades and test scores. Helps keep him in line. Luckley all I ever here about is that he is a great student that is a chatter box.
the same at the elementarey school but Michael is not a chatter box.
Deffinatly get that book...it is like my Bible. I have learned so much from it and has helped me chill out,and taght me how to respond to certain situations and they work. A friend told me about it. I have read it over and over and still get things out of it. :thumbsup2

Good afternoon all!!!

Snow, hail, wind, rain is upon us !!! Why is this last period of time taking so long???

Does anyone have an approximate number of cabins from the DIS boards that are going???

I am wondering because I assume we could put pressies into the stockings??

If someone could please post the numbers that would be great.

Right now I think it is somewhere around 20 or so. I think I have stockings for 18 rooms (but Holly and Heidi each get one so there are two for their room so that makes 19 stockings) including mine confirmed. I have three more that I haven't gotten final confirmation on and then names on the list that haven't been around or responded to say they are or are not going. As we get closer we may have a better idea. After Halloween I will post a list of the names I have and we can see if anyone knows of anyone I should add or if anyone adds themselves, how's that?

You might just use the list Jen has on her website, and fill in any additional info you may have. Her list has how many in cabins, ages, etc. so that if someone wants to give out kiddie gifts they know how many per cabin.

Just a thought to keep people from working too hard!
