12/10/05 ~ Anyone else cruising.....??

I was figuring on getting APL since we have kids (I know, no guarantee) that is why I didn't have my TA put in a request. I just hope we don't get the 5:45!

Disney just called about the glitch in the room bookings we had over tgiving....they will honor night one at 26.88 and then the rest of the nights would be Fl rates...so - I had planned on canceling but now am going to keep it and just stay Wed - Sat....and then go to Gainesville Sat....this way we don't have to fight with my parents and the Outlawz where we will be for Thanksgiving dinner!!

And now I don't have to cancel our ADR's either. :)

Bummer about the room rates. :( At least it will save you something! :) I totally understand about the mess with holidays & family.

Well....I booked knowing that they may not honor it...seeing it was a glitch!

Lisa - you've been to the markets right off the ship right? I thinking of how much cash we would need for the islands...cab fare, beach fare but the souveniers...the only things I would be looking for are hand painted tiles - things like that..were the items very expensive or reasonable? I don't want to bring much cash at all and I figure that is all they take....

They take credit cards at most of the shops on the islands. St. Thomas is US territory and St Marteen shops also took credit cards. I guess at the straw market type shops you might need cash. We usually buy tote bags, jewelry, etc at the straw market type shops for our kids/grandkids/parents for souvineers (sp). Most of the trinkets we buy are $10 or less, so just figure how much of that stuff you want to buy outside the regular store type shops.

I haven't looked for the tiles before, but that might be a nice thing to start. We really liked the market by the tender dock in St. Thomas. The people there were really nice & the prices were great!!! We take TCs to use off the ship. I would rather not use my CC on the islands. We have never taken taxis on the island before so that will be new for us. I guess that we will have to have a little cash for that.

hi,

I put in a request for the 8:00pm, but told the Disney people, we still want early seating. So we will see. Last time we had late seating and booked a Jan cruise in August, and were switched by the time we boarded. DD was 3 then though, so that may have been a factor.

What do you do with the tiles? Just curious.

Linda

Lisa,

We saw those images of Atlantic Beach on TV last night too, and it was very strange seeing a place you know almost like home being battered by mother nature like that. Glad to hear that you are all safe - are you guys up high enough from the river to escape any of that flooding?

What's up anyway with the "rave reviews" on the staggared dining? I really don't understand the advantage other than it being less crowded going in or coming out of the restaurants. Is there something that I could be missing here?

Vanessa, tribe won again last night - another exciting game! Still in 1st for the wild card! Indians are off tonight and I don't know what to do with myself - other than watch a Disney video with Sophia.

BTW Lisa, Sophia got her deluxe Belle costume in the mail yesterday, and she makes a great little Belle!

We are fine where we live but there are lots of areas that get flooded when storms come thru like this. They haven't shown alot on the news yet. Of course, the kids were watching nickjr when the local news was on tonight. I am exhausted though. I left them downstairs to watch a movie while I put away all of the laundry that I did the other day & catch up on my soap and after resting "for a minute" I was woken up an hour later by DD.

we've taken the taxis on st. thomas into town. it was interesting to see the other side of town but we won't be doing that again. it was exhausting for the kids as there were only shops. there was a hard rock cafe there too. the weather was kind of humid there and there were these little gnat-like flys. we took a few pictures and then went back to the ship. the shops right outside the ship are good. st. thomas is famous for linen (??) right?? it's also nice to eat where the locals eat. apparently, a lot of CMs eat out too.

We don't eat off the ship. First of all, we have already paid for all the food we care to eat :) and I don't want to end up ill for the rest of the cruise. I stick with what I know so I can enjoy the week. :)

John, they just showed Swansburo on the news. Yanie's had a few feet of water in it last night.

Hi all...Lisa - I am glad you are ok and have power....!

Linda - we haven't done anything with our tiles yet - we have some from the Bahamas and Mexico, but we are remodeling and will probably put some in the bathroom and maybe even the pool - they are large tiles and could even be used as trivets....I only started collecting them on our first DCL trip. Our normal souviee is an ornament.....:)

John - GO TRIBE! Can you believe it?? We gave up our Gator tix this weekend...happy and sad at the same time...HUGE game but, no sitter, I am working Sun morning and it would make for a long weekend- plus with the big games the opposing teams fans get really out of control and we don't want to take the girls into that just yet!!! I am trying to watch NFL matchup right now...I have Dante Culpepper as my QB on the fantasy league and he had a horrid week last week!! I wasn't thinking of how the Moss departure would effect him so!! But - back to bball....hope the Indians can go all the way! The DRays have no chance ....I wish somehow they would just do it one year - just don't want to lose MLB so close to us..but if they don't start doing well - who knows! We watched Mr. 3000 tonight...cute movie - we got to witness Boggs hit 3000 so it brought back some memories!! John's parents are in Ohio right now...they called us tonight....DH has a HUGE greenthumb...I mean we have about 800 pineapple plants in our yard among other things....anyway...his uncle in OH started us some grape plants 2 years ago....so his mom called tonight from OH and we decided to leave them one more year before transporting to FL...several different varities including Concord which Uncle Sam doesn't think will make it in the FL climate!

Hurricanes - there is nothing worse than seeing the places you know and love being battered by mother nature....it is so horrific and unbelievable...anytime it rains now Samantha asks if it is a hurricane....the last time we evacuated was during Charlie and I think that was the first time it hit me that we may have nothing to return to...we were lucky. ....this is the only drawback to FL!!

Vanessa,

Could you just get your D-Rays to beat those Yankees once or twice like they did in the beginning of the year??? It would help the Indians!

Amy and I have Field Box seats for Tom'ws Indians game right behind home plate - can't wait! Tonight it's HS football - my old HS that Amy and I went to - Canton McKinley (undefeated) is playing the HS that my son went to and I am on the School board for - GlenOak (1-1). Should be a great game, and of course I will be rooting for where I live now.

John, do you follow hockey? how close are you to Columbus?

Jordan,

Do not follow Hockey very closely, and with the strike last year it really fell off the table for me. We are a 2.5 hour drive from Columbus - actually only 2 hours to Pittsburgh. Have not made it to a Blue Jackets game.

John

John,

No worries about the hockey. I am going to a pre season game next Friday. I may still buy a mini-pack, but we'll see how the Ducks do. We have the DirecTV Football Package and we upgraded to the Super Fan Level. It's pretty good........I will be in Diversions on Sunday...maybe all day and then again on Monday Night for football......

Dodgers are technically still in it but we'll see and the Angels are in the hunt, but very inconsistent.....

What a great weekend for sports!!!

GO GATORS!! GO TRIBE!!! GO BUCS!!!
Miami won in 3 ot's!!! What a game!

Looks like there is another storm out there now....maybe going over Key West!

Vanessa,

You forgot GO BROWNS! Browns won their first game of the Romeo Crennel Era yesterday against the Packers!

John

OK, I am starting to worry because I cannot find a white peasant top anywhere online that doesn't have a costume with it. Has anyone had any luck finding one? I have checked Ebay too but no luck so far. What kind of shoes are you ladies wearing with your costumes? I plan on wearing black capris with the blouse but don't think that black sandals would be the right thing to complete the look. LOL!

I haven't been able to find a white peasant top either. I may actually look at a costume too to see what is out there. My original idea was to wear my black capris and peasant top also. I probably would end up wearing my sandles, I can't think of any other shoes to wear. I haven't found anything for DH yet either. I went to Goodwill looking for old stuff, but I couldn't find any shirts. I didn't find any pants either, but for him I figure I can get an old pair of pants, cut them off and make them worn looking. I just don't know about a top. Any ideas?
