Hey PodCrew! I’ve been floating around the DISboards for a couple of years now but have only discovered the podcast in the last month after receiving my first MP3 player and being motivated to find some good content to load on it. I can’t wait for every Tuesday!

I heard the call for stories about great CM’s and wanted to share mine. I was going to leave a voicemail but I had ‘visuals’ and figured the story was best told in the forums.

Our family’s first (and only) trip was last April (after Easter) to the Polynesian. We had connecting rooms with my inlaws for a week. It was a fantastic week made even more fantastic by our ‘Mousekeeper’, Gladys.

I spent endless hours on the DISboards researching my holiday. It had been a dream of mine to do this trip. My FIL had expressed a desire to stay at the Poly which we were happy to do. The rest of the planning was left to me (gladly!) After lots of reading/browsing I decided on the building I would prefer at the Polynesian. I requested 3rd floor connecting rooms in Tokelau based on our family’s needs. When we checked in we were told we had our 3rd floor connecting rooms but they were in Rapa Nui. I had done enough research to ask...’on the parking lot side?’. The answer was ‘no’, so I was happy. There was a ‘reason’ we were put in Rapa Nui instead (other than Tokelau is a lot more popular!)...we got to meet Gladys. We walked into our beautiful rooms and found a smiling “Aloha” done in wool and marker and googly eyes on one of the bathroom towels. I knew it was going to be a good stay!

I had brought Mousekeeping tip envelopes (another DISboard discovery!) and after our first day, left our first tip and wrote a thank you on the back expressing our appreciation. Each day this continued. We would find towel animals or stick puppets for the kids or the bed toys arranged cutely/cleverly waiting to sleep with my daughter.

There was always a housekeeping card with Gladys’ name on it so I knew her name. I always left a note with the tip sharing our thanks or some exciting news from the day (like our Dream Fastpasses from the MK on our first morning in that park!). Partway through the week, my MIL, DD and I were walking down the hall and I saw a housekeeping cart and a housekeeper. She had her name badge on...it was Gladys! I introduced myself and part of my family. She excitedly went to her cart and showed us all the notes she had saved from me and told me that she’d showed them to her supervisor and got special recognition for receiving them. It made us feel as great as it made her feel. She then proceeded to talk to my daughter (always calling her ‘princess’) and got down on the floor with her and showed her how to make a towel animal (a bunny in a skirt) which she was presented as a gift.

She then had activity cards and got ‘princess’ to pick one. She was given an assignment to find Hidden Mickeys in our room. She also had her look for them in the carpet in the hallway while she stood with us.

My MIL inquired after Gladys’ schedule and wondered if she’d be with us the duration of our trip. She was. We learned where she was from & a bit about her life outside ‘the World’. Our visit was a good 20+ minutes and my DH, FIL and DS had emerged from our rooms at this point and said hello as well. DS was referred to as ‘prince’ the entire encounter as well. We all parted ways and finished off an incredible week (the info from the DISboards was invaluable in helping to plan a lot of the details!).

At the end of the trip we encountered Gladys who was rushing over to find us...she had been reassigned to another area and wouldn’t see us on our departure day as had been previously discussed. She brought gifts, but not for the kids, they were for myself and my MIL as an early “Happy Mother’s Day”. Mine was a colourful towel pirate Goofy and MIL’s was a colourful towel Tigger.

She said they were special ones that she had learned to do on her own. We all shared a thank you and a warm goodbye. She was such a special part of our trip. Gladys has her own scrapbook page as a very special part of the memories of our time at Disney. A year later, my 8 year old still remembers her name and sharing time with her (we still have the towel animals!)

It would have been a wonderful time without meeting Gladys but those interactions with her really enriched our experience.

What a great story! Seems like Glady really went above and beyond in spreading the magic.

I don't post very much but when heard the request for stories, I knew I wanted to recognize Gladys. Thanks for reading.

Enjoy the cruise Annette!

What a wonderful encounter! I'm so glad you got to meet up with her. So often we miss the mousekeepers, and even though we tip and receive great service, they remain faceless and nameless. Glad you got to meet yours.

I had a really good experience with a CM recently when my Sister brought me down for my 40th birthday. We went on the Jungle Cruise in the Morning and got "Captain" Mike as our tour guide. He went above and beyond the scripted dialog. He was ducking from the hunters, crying out in suprise as the elephants came into view, and even promised to come back and get me when he asked if anyone had gotten lost to raise their have and I of course did.
He made it a very enjoyable ride and made us want to go on it again and again and again.

Thanks to Mike for a great start to our day!

I called mine in. I love the GF and i love Alice in Wonderland. I wanted one of the alice refillable mugs and the GF was getting rid of them. When we were there in July 2007 there were none at Gaspies. We always stay concierge and Vonnie who works there is AMAZING!! They need to give that woman a raise and quick. In DEc yes 6 months later she found 2 of the mugs and mailed them to my home. Talk about going above and beyond. It really made my day and I cant wait to go back to the GF again because of Vonnie and her dedication to the guest.

We are a week behind on Podcasts, but my daughter and I just heard the call for CM compliments. I LOVE this idea and did call mine in. We have come to expect CMs to act a certain way and when they do it is hard to recognize it as out of the ordinary. I must say though, that in our entire 11 days in WDW last August, we never had a cast member that didn't go out of his or her way to help us and go above and beyond. Having said that, there were a few that really made impressions on us, so much so that I sent a note to WDW letting them know our experience. As I said, I did call these in, but in case they do not get selected, I thought I would post the note I sent here...

Dear WDW Guest Communications Department,

My family and I just returned from a trip to WDW (7/23/07 - 8/3/07) and I wanted to provide you with some feedback on our stay. We stayed at the Yacht Club on the Concierge floor and cannot say enough good things about the hotel and the staff. We truly felt like royalty every single day. We did not encounter a single cast member during our stay that wasn't friendly and helpful - in the hotel, the parks, on the transportation or in the restaurants. What a feat of customer service!

Having said this, we would like to bring to your attention some people who really went above and beyond for us and made our trip even more fantastic.

Fenelita (Mousekeeper, Yacht Club) - What a wonderful lady. Each day, we came back from the parks to a new towel animal or arrangement of stuffed animals. We were all thrilled. Fenelita even saw us in the hallway, introduced herself and from that point on, every time she saw us she addressed us by name, asking how our day had been. What a gem she is!

Tony (Server, Coral Reef) - We dined at the Coral Reef on Monday, 7/30 for dinner. Our server was Tony ...and what a terrific server he is! He made wonderful suggestions to us of some of his favorites and never steered us wrong. When we inquired about the Pirates Punch for our son, who has Diabetes, he tracked down the ingredients list for both the lemonade and the syrup to confirm that is was low in sugar. He made our daughter's day by presenting her with a Tink pin when he saw that her lanyard was covered with Tink. He even taught us the way to eat the Jack Daniel's mousse to get all the layers of flavor in one bite. It is very clear how much Tony enjoys making your guest's dining experience a good one. We'd come back just for him.

Gary (Server, Kona Cafe) - Gary was so enthusiastic about the food and coffee at Kona, he really made dining there a great experience. He took lots of time to explain the options to us and made sure the children had choices they would like. He even went as far as to get Mickey waffles from Ohana's for our son instead of pancakes. To top it off, the children were so enthralled with the whipped cream on their hot chocolate that Gary brought them and extra bowl of it so they could add more whenever they wanted. He had such a happy demeanor, it rubbed off on all of us and left us smiling all morning.

Dallas (Server, HoopDeeDoo Revue) - You can tell by first glance that Dallas loves what he does. He was friendly and enthusiastic when he introduced himself and that continued all night. We loved watching him participate in the show - he told us he loves doing it, which was obvious. We really appreciated the little things he did for us. For instance, our daughter was cold in the air conditioning and he noticed it and brought out a tablecloth to wrap around her, allowing her to enjoy the rest of the show in comfort.

People so often only speak out to complain, we wanted to be sure that these cast members knew how much their attention to detail made a difference to us. We hope that these words of praise get passed along to each person's manager, as they truly did make our trip and we think they should be recognized for that.
