:grouphug:

I hope everything works out for your DD. I can't imagine all the pain she is going thru. My thoughts and prayers are with her.

Sounds like that doctor doesn't deserve to be practicing. He sounds very insensitive to his patients. Glad you were able to get all her records. Good luck with the new doctor.

Sorry to hear her about her job. Too bad they couldn't work with her.

I agree go after all that you can from this woman. I hope her insurance pays out the maximum. (Hope she has it.)

Thanks.. Quite frankly, her job is the least of our worries right now.. We're just concerned that she's going to be disabled permanently at only 33 years old due to the negligence of that woman.. (Who incidentally somehow got my son-in-law's telephone number at work and called him there swearing her head off because she's being sued.. Wonder if she was calling from her cell phone in her new car??? )

Can she do that, call your SIL at work? What did she expect your DD to do? Your DD is going to have tons of medical bills to pay, loss of wages, etc. all because of her. Does she think she isn't liable?

I know the main concern is for DD to get healthy just stinks that there aren't sympathetic companies out there that could be accommodating but I also understand they have a business to run.

I am so sorry for all of your daughters pain. It is great that she has you to advocate for her. Darvocet is such a mild narcotic pain reliever, is she responding to that? Your daughter has the right to have her pain handled so do try and take her to another doctor. I work for a police dept. and pain clinics are often under great scrutiny about their narcotic prescriptions. NOT that this is ANY excuse on how she was treated, there is no excuse for the doctors horrible care and attitude. I pray that she is taken care of in a respectful way. There are medications that she can use to help and she has the right to them. Make sure you keep up the fight because when you are in pain it is almost impossible to fight for yourself. FYI, if she is in horrible pain and you can't get to a doctor she has every right to visit the ER for temporary relief and possibly a referral to a better pain doctor. There are good pain doctors out there that will take the time to evaluate her pain and deal with it. Not everyone is a drug seeker and pain doctors should know this above all others. Good luck with your lawsuit and her recovery.

 to your poor DD. Just a word of caution. Please be very careful with the epidurals. My DMom had them for pain by a totally incompetent doctor who prescribed too many, the pain clinic who used "off-label" steroids and others who weren't careful. She now has Cushings Syndrome and adrenal insufficieny. She is permanently disabled and we face the very scary possibilty that years have been taken off her life because of all of this.

Get a second or third opinion. Look at other options and stay informed. Hope this is resolved soon for your poor DD.

I'm sorry your DD's Dr. is being so uncaring. I hope she gets the care she needs and soon. (can you imagine how it must be for people who don't have someone in their corner??)

and thanks for the laugh (brains God gave a peach pit) is a new one on me...I might just have to borrow that one..their are quite a few peach pits that haven't been buried yet in my life!

I'm so sorry for all your DD, you and the rest of the family are going through. This has got to be taking it's toll not just physically but emotionally. Your DD is lucky she has you to be her advocate. I'm sure her DH's plate is overflowing between work and the new house.

I hope your DGD is doing ok. I'm sure your DD is worried about how her condition is affecting her own DD and that's got to be rough as well.

I hope the medication eases her pain and doesn't cause bad side effects.

:grouphug: to all of you.

I tell ya what - epidurals are nothing to be messing around with. People treat them like Tylenol these days and they are far from innocuous. I had a bad one - had spasms for months afterward. Unfortunately they can be very harmful. Not to mention the anesthesiologist was a butcher! The bruise on my back looked like an eggplant for weeks. Sorry, I digress...

I am so sorry you're daughter is going through this. How crummy. I hope everything works out for her. Make sure she hooks up with a doctor who is comfortable with pain management techniques. It seems many doctors fear over-prescription so much they miss people who really are having a miserable time.

Carol Ann, I'm so sorry, I'm sitting here cringing just reading your message.... Can I ask a totally dumb question? How is an epidural supposed to help? I thought they were just used during childbirth or to numb below the waist for surgery? What are they supposed to do for your daughter? What type of doctor is this that gave the epidural? I thought only anaesthesiologists gave them.... I don't think I'd see this doctor again... I'd wait til that next doctor appointment with the new doctor... it won't hurt to wait til the 7th will it?

I'd be careful with this, as it seems you are....

I just had to write a response to this. I am in a similar situation as your DD. I was rear ended by a man who was speeding and talking on a cell phone while I was stopped at a red light. I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my neck. Unfortunately it has triggered migraines (I never had them before!!) I decided against the epidural injections because of the horror stories I heard like your DD. I am trying physical therapy and massage as I can't undergo surgery right now. I am so sending positive thoughts to you and your daughter. She definitely deserves quality treatment. My suggestion would be massage therapy. It helps me for a couple of weeks which is more than anything else does.

Omgosh!!! That's beyond awful!!! :grouphug:

My DH has epidurals for his herniated disc, but the Pain Management group he uses is wonderful. FOrst off, they do the procedure under heavy sedation so he doesn't feel a thing. He gets instant pain relief and sometimes he doesn't even need the whole set of 3 to get relief for months.

Please find another doctor ASAP (if not sooner....yikes!!!)

Laurie :)

I had epidurals for my ruptured disc in my lower back. L2 and L4. They were successful for me. I did have to have 2, as the first one didn't work.
They are administered by an anesthesiologist adn although it was uncomfortable, it was not PAINFUL. I had a nummer shot first...I felt a lot of pressure...but not pain. The actual epidural was ok until it popped my spinal sack...that was the weirdest not good feeling. then it was over.

I was very dizzy after and went home and laid down. but that was it. no soreness or a bruise. I feel lucky that I had a good experience because I had to go back 2 weeks later for another shot. of course this was after my DH told me the size of the needle :faint:

after the 2 shots I improved drastically. It was really helpful for me.

Good luck to your daughter C.Ann... :smooth:

C.Ann - so sorry your DD is going through this! Pain management is tough. I see the predicament - go back to this guy and try again, or wait 'til the appt with the new doctor. Not sure which I'd do either. You're a good Mom, being her advocate. Hang in there.

To answer some of your questions:

The epidural was done by an anesthesiologist at a Pain Management Clinic.

The type of epidurals being used are steroids - not the kind you receive during childbirth.

The anesthesiologist did not wait for the numbing shot to take effect before he went ahead and jammed her in the wrong spot - twice.

She has already received massage therapy; accupuncture; and physical therapy - all to no avail.

This was supposed to be the next step in an attempt to avoid surgery - at least for the time being..

----------------------

I'm not sure what she should do now.. Maybe if the Darvocet gives her enough relief she can put off the 2nd epidural on Monday until she gets in to see the new doctor on June 7th.. :confused3

I know she's 33 years old, but she's still my "baby" and I can't stand seeing her in pain and being treated so poorly.. Add the "move" to that, and she feels about as useless as dirt.. :sad2:

C.Ann, I'm still cringing reading this post again, I hurt just thinking about this.... Thanks for the info on the type of medicine they use with the epidural, I had no idea it was ever used for anything else other than childbirth...

So the guy that did this procedure was an anaesthesiologist?? He sounds like a HACK... I would try to wait for the appt. with the new doctor... Your poor daughter, I'm just so sorry... :confused3 I agree about being your daughter's advocate.. when you are not feeling well, it's really hard to advocate for yourself, I have firsthand experience with this in particular....

:grouphug:

C.Ann, all I can say is how lucky your DD is to have you fighting for her! I love people who aren't intimidated by doctors! I hope the other doctor can help her and that she can avoid surgery! :grouphug: :grouphug:
