Hey everyone,

My question is can our 11year old DN wear a costume?

We are going October 5 -14, 2012. Our DD princess: will be wearing a costume (4 years old) and we are bringing our DN (11yrs old-turning 12 while we are there) and she will want to dress up and it would be good if I can find out ahead of time if it's okay. I searched the forums and some say up to 9 years old while others say @ Halloween time up to 12 years old. :confused3

Thanks :wave2:

Yes, they won't even ask about it. BUT, make sure SHE wants to dress up. My 11yo nieces would NOT be willing to dress up, except for the Halloween party itself...

I would second this advice. I think it would be very unusual for an 11yo to want to dress like a princess in the park. Not impossible, but unusual. If she does it, be sure she's doing it because she wants to, not because she thinks you want her to.

I went looking for the info on the disneyland site, but found what seems to be new wording.

Ensuring that the parks are family friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense. Attire that is not appropriate for the theme parks (and which may result in refusal of admittance) includes but is not limited to:

Adult costumes or clothing that can be viewed as representative of an actual Disney character
Masks (unless you are dressing up for a particular event)
Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
Excessively torn clothing
Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
Tattoos that could be considered objectionable, such as with obscene language or graphics

A Guest is allowed into the parks if her or his hair (or make-up, if applicable) has been made to resemble a Disney Princess or character (for example, after a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique makeover) provided the Guest is not also wearing a costume or clothed to look like the character.

In the past, I swear it has put the age for dressing-up as the age for having Child tickets. Over that age and you're not supposed to. Some object to that, as they are still children, just like charging adult prices for 10+ at buffets. But since I have an 8 year old who can eat as much at a buffet as we can (more, now that DH and I are learning to eat properly with the help of Weight Watchers), and since I was well on my way to a "womanly" body by 11, I totally understand that age cut-off!

If she does want to dress up, I would just make sure she doesn't go overboard. If her face and hair is really done well, have her outfit more low-key. Or vice versa. And bring other clothes, just in case.

Of course, if you're going to the Halloween Party, anyone can dress up. She just can't sign autographs, if she looks enough like a princess to get the requests. :)

The big thing is this... If she can be mistaken for a character, she will need to tone it down. BUT if she looks like a kid, dressed like a character, she is fine.

You could not have gotten my girls to dress like princesses at age 11. Jedis, yes. But not a princess...

I was a total nerdy Tom boy :rotfl:

My DD is a total princess: since birth :lmao:

Our niece said she would like to wear something, but just for the park:thumbsup2

Now to find something that fits her, she is my height! I found a great costume at Costco today for my DD for only $24, now I just need to find something for niece and kept BOTH outfits hidden going through airport security

Thank you all for your ideas

I just got my tickets for the Halloween Party and inside the ticket envelope was a printout that stated that except for during the Halloween Party no one age 10 and up is allowed to wear a costume. I don't know how strictly they enforce this, however.

someone in the sewing forum posted a while back this shirt she made that was like snow white but it was designed for a preteen...I loved it and I think the girl wore bike shorts...I would head over there and post a request I know some of those ladies sell there stuff too (or try estcy)
