The question is...

We have always used the yellow tags and usually have early AM flights--not this time

but I can't decide do we just pick our bags up ourselves and carry on to magical express or do we get the middle of the night knock with our bags OR have them hold til morning and not have them when we wake???

I can't decide!!! I'm leaning toward just getting them ourselves but SOOOO nice when tired and excited to head straight to ME....

When we arrived late (like you are), we still took magical express to the hotel, but we didn't have the option of having them handle our luggage. (not sure why) We had to get it from the carousel and carry to DME. But it all worked out just fine.

oh, that's right I think I have a faint memory of reading something about certain hours of baggage handling . I guess I should look into that. I am on hold now to give my flight info. They sent me yellow tags but may not know my window of arrival. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure if you arrive after 10pm, you have to get your luggage yourself whether you want to or not. I don't think they have luggage handlers that work overnight. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a google search said ME luggage delivery is 5am to 10pm.

Last year our flight didn't land until 1215am. It really didn't take that long to get our luggage, we just got a little lost in the airport. I was tired and hadn't memorized how to get to where we needed to go.

You have to get the bags yourself. From the DME website:

Luggage Transport Between 10:00 PM and
5:00 AM

Our luggage delivery service is not in operation during these hours. Please collect your luggage at Baggage Claim on Level 2 and bring it with you to the Disney's Magical Express location. Your luggage will travel with you on the motorcoach to your Disney Resort Hotel. Luggage assistance will be available upon arrival at your Resort.

According to the Disney site... you have to get them yourself.
Q.

If I use Disney’s Magical Express and I check my luggage, when will it be delivered to my hotel room?

A.

If you arrive between 5:00 AM and 10:00 PM, be aware that it can take up to 3 hours after you arrive at select Disney Resort hotels for your luggage to be delivered. Please pack a carry-on bag with your valuables, medications and anything you’ll need immediately upon your arrival. You do not need to be in your room to receive your luggage.

Be sure not to pack your MagicBands in your checked luggage, as they will be used to check in with Disney’s Magical Express at Orlando International Airport and to unlock your room when you arrive at your Disney Resort hotel.

If you arrive at Orlando International Airport after 10:00 PM, you must collect your luggage at Baggage Claim and bring it with you on the Disney’s Magical Express motorcoach.

We'll be arriving around 7pm on our next trip, and I think we'll be handling it ourselves. I want DD to get to sleep right away once we get to our room.

That's probably a good idea if you're staying at a value resort. They're the last to be delivered too. I had a flight land around 8 a few years ago and my luggage wasn't delivered to AoA until almost midnight. It was my first solo trip and I was close to "panic" thinking the airlines had lost it in Houston during my plane change. :tink:

Last time we had a 7:00pm arrival our luggage didn't arrive until after we were asleep so we were woken up when they were delivered. I will grab the bags myself if we ever arrive in the evening again.

I need to keep this in mind - for the November trip we have planned we don't land till close to 8 and I don't want my bags arriving at the room at midnight when we are asleep.

We're staying at a mod, but DD usually goes to bed between 7 and 8, and we'll be arriving after a long day at school and work, and having an early start the next morning, so we'll all need to sleep!

Shoot. We arrived at 2PM and didn't get ours until around 8 or 9. If you need your bags before it gets dark, you should pick them up.

If you're arriving before 10, but late enough that you wouldn't want your luggage delivered, you can have bell services hold it overnight if you want.

Pack what you need right away in your carry on bags. Then tell the front desk to hold your checked luggage. They will! Put the Privacy Please tab in your door for good measure. then all you have to do is call down when you want your bags.
