I think I have this figured out but still have a couple of questions.

Let say your home resort is SSR. In order to make a reservation at SSR you can make it at the earliest 11 months out or less? And if you wanted to make one at BWV the earliest you can make one at 7 months or less? I would assume that is the one of the advantages of the home resort? And how about the waiting lists? Do they usually come through?

Now how does the UY play into all of this? We are from Wisconsin so trips in Dec-Feb will be the most common so what UY would be recommended? Or does it really matter at all?

Thanks to all!

Yes..you have figured out the 11-7 month advantage. The waiting list issue depends on so many different pieces that it's tough to say. I booked a studio at BCV for this past April at the 7 month window and was put on the wait list, which came though in less than 2 weeks, so it worked for me.

The UY has no impact on the 11-7 month booking windows since you can book a reservation for a future date even though you may not have the points in your account on the day you book the reservation...you just need to have the points available when you use the reservation.

UY only comes into play when you have to cancel a reservation. If you plan to visit WDW in the Dec-Feb time frame, then I would choose a DEC UY or OCT UY to give you the most flexibility.

Pretty much all of December is popular with DVC. If you want to stay at a particular resort in December, the 11-month windows is going to be very nice to have. Non-holiday weeks in Jan and Feb aren't nearly as popular. Today you won't have much trouble getting into most places at the 7 month window. Things could always change in the future.
