Just wondering. Since owners can book at 11 months, but non-owners can book at 7 months, what happens during those intervening months-10, 9, 8? Does much booking go on? We missed the 11 month window to book at our home resort. But I figure that as long as we get to it by 8 months (we're not sure of exact dates yet) we'll probably be OK. Is there really much difference in booking availability between 11 months and 8 months? Just curious-am I missing something?

Bobbi is right - that depends a lot on which resort and which time of year - and room type. All the resorts will reach capacity (more or less) between eleven months to travel date. How fast that happens is a factor of resort and time of year. There are two big rushes - at eleven and seven months, but people are busy booking year round. If you are hoping for a BWV standard view room, eleven months is necessary in the last quarter, but between eleven and seven is pretty important year round - the closer you can get to eleven, the better your chances are.

(I think you own OKW, and would think you'd be fine as long as you get your reservation in before that eight month period - assuming it isn't last quarter. And given when you are asking the question, I suspect you are thinking of traveling early next Summer or late Spring).

One year we decided to book a Food and Wine trip to the BCV at 9 months out. Nothing available in a studio for more than a couple days for all the weeks we checked.

Certain resorts and certain times of the year, you really need to use your 11 month home resort booking priority :)

Actually we're looking at late April, early May. I'm just wondering if a lot of reserving goes on between 11 months (well, say 10 1/2) and 8 months.

Booking at 11 and 7 month dates, the greater the chances of getting what you want. There are so many events at Disney now and in the future that can cause increased competition for rooms.

At eight months out for late April to early May, the following are likely to have already been booked although you can sometimes get lucky that time of year for some of these: VGF studios, BLT standard view ( all room sizes), BWV boardwalk and standard view studios (and resulting 2BRs), BWV GV's, the OKW GV's in the near Hospitality House booking category, and AKV value and club level studios and 2BRs (50/50 on 1BRs). Also some risk that BCV studios, BLT theme park view rooms, and BLT lake view GV's could be filled. Others are likely to be open.

My DGD is going to Disney with her orchestra next April. Just 9 days after the 11 month booking window opened is when we got the exact dates, but that also is the weekend of the Star Wars half marathon. So I was unable to get my home resort of BWV in a standard or Boardwalk view room. I finally decided to be safe and book garden/pool and wait list the standard. There are so many events now throughout the Year it's best to book as early as possible.

Room type is as big a factor as time of year. End first week Jan to back end Sept you can book a full week, any DVC at WDW in a 1 bed including GF (save holidays) no issue. I keep a close eye in it. Even Oct to end Dec dead on 7 months it's not too hard a lot of the time. Studios- different story. This is why I suggest to the prospective purchaser who is buying to try all the resorts or cannot book 11 months in advance- spend $80 A point on SSR and buy twice the points for a 1 bed, rather than 185 a point on Copper Creek if you can live with 30% ish more dues, and when you can bag a studio You can rent the excess points off. Ironically it can be easier to bag a 1 bed at VGF 7 months out, than a studio at 11.
BWV I can still get a 1 bed in a lot if Jan and all start of Feb (7 months), even standard view.
