:sunny: We have been enjoying beautiful weather this week. We live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It has been in the high 60's and low 70's all week. The kids have liked playing outside in the afternoons without a jacket. I sent DS6 (Will) to school today in a t-shirt and shorts with a light jacket for the morning. Trust me, this is not a typical winter for us. It will probably be in the 40's next week. DD4 (Emily) just came in and saw the dancing banana with Mickey ears. She likes it. Can someone forward it to me? Thanks! :thanks:

Bill,
I think they must of heard that you bite from someone and it scared them away.

It could've been the picture of you and your "furry friend". . . :rolleyes1

Nothing to be scared of here on this thread -- as long as you post :) or :lmao: thoughts, we're a nice bunch of        !!!

:jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:

Kathy,

If you wanted a third opinion on your baking, you could send of it up this way! I'd be happy to sample for you!!!!! :rotfl:

We are having some very mild weather here as well. Our snow is almost all melted. Jessalyn's snowmen are getting smaller by the hour. . .

Here's some more for the count:

Evening y'all,
well i got 2 types of cookies baked, one batch of krumkakes, butterscotch brownies. Not bad for one day. Most are in the freezer, just left out one cookie of each kind for Greg and Peter to try and of course Minnie.
Sorry Cheri, no extra to send this time :confused3

Bill,
Do the bananas need to be concerned about the monkeys??
They looked a little hungry to me.
Hope you've got them trained or at least house broken. :lmao:

well I am going to watch the gingerbread house competition at 9 tonight on the food network. I love making them, but this year I didnt do it. Just not enough time, plus I was afraid Minnie may get a hold of it.

Hopefully next Christmas our kids and grandkids will be here, so then I can make one and they can eat it for me. I like to make an entire village of them when I have time to plan it out. Once I did a medevel castle which was huge, but really a lot of fun. I think I spent about $60 on candy to cover it with.

Anybody here like to make gingerbread houses too???

Kathy

Good morning everyone,

Well today I need to buy some cream and pinto beans so I can finish up my holiday baking.

But first Minnie insists on a walk. She can be very persistant at times.

Have a great day everyone, just remember tomarrow is Friday!!!

Kathy

:thumbsup2 We made a gingerbread house this year with the kids for the first time. However, I cheated and bought a Wilton one already pre-baked. So, the kids just decorated it. They had a lot of fun and have begged to do it again next year. I am also cheating with my holiday baking this year. Will (DS6) was selling cookie dough at school for a PTA fundraiser. So, I bought a few tubs (snickerdoodles, sugar and peanut butter). I plan on baking on Sunday while Bill (DH) watches football. Normally, Emily (DD4) and I spend a day baking together during the holidays. It is nice mother and daughter time. She is my little helper. princess:

Kathy, I just have a problem with the concept of needing pinto beans for holiday baking. I can understand the cream, but the beans just don't make no sense!

LOL - I was thinking the SAME thing. What the heck could you be baking that needs Pinto beans?

Ok you guys, your gonna think I'm crazy but I use pinto beans in making low fat chocolate fudge. Yes you read it right, chocolate fudge and I guarantee that you would never know there was pinto beans in it unless someone told you.
I have given it to many people and nobody had a clue what my secret ingredient was. It takes the place of a lot of the fat.

I also use other things in my baking which would probably sound weird to you guys, like baby food prunes, unsweetened applesauce, and a few other surprizes. So far I have had all compliments with these baked goodies.

Plus they are better for you and still rich and lucious tasting.
i also make a cookie which reminds you of a biscuit with a thin icing on them that was Greg's great grandmothers recipe. it is not sweet at all accept the icing, but there is something really tasty about them. Of course I dont use lard, I use shortening but it is an old farm wives recipe from when they didnt have much, my entire family loves them. It is hard to make because I dont have exact amounts for the ingredients, just has to be done by feel. One of those hand me down recipes.

Josh ,
are you and your dad still out there??? Your mom posted recently, but you guys have been pretty quiet the past few days.

Time to do the dishes so gotta run.
If anyone is interested in seeing the fudge recipe, let me know.

Jennifer,
I have used a couple of those pre baked gingerbread hosues when I was shor ton time and they work really nice, especially when the kids are helping.
Hope you have fun baking with DD. I really miss baking with my girls, they both are grown and have daughters and sons of their own.

Enjoy the moment!!!

:goodvibes That is funny, I was thinking the same thing regarding the pinto beans. Because she put "baking" and not cooking. I've heard of people putting sauerkraut in chocolate cake and I have tried applesauce in recipes too. So, nothing surprises me with some peoples "special" ingredients. "Happy Baking"

Good evening all!

Just checking in to say "hi" and keep us near the top of the page!

We had a very nice day today -- a few sprinkles early, but sun and 50's later. (in northern IL that seems "nice" compared to the 0's we were having last week!)

Going to get DD ready for bed then sit down and watch The Office! :happytv:

Kathy, please be sure your fudge recipe gets into the Wild Turkey/Nana cookbook!

morning y'all,
Cheri I did send Linda the recipe a few days ago. It took me along time to get up the courage to use it, but it really tasted good and nobody knew what was in it. I am going to make a batch next week too.

Today is foggy and a little drizzly, but going to be upper 80's so it will be muggy out. I hate the sticky days.

Does anybody have any special plans for the weekend??

If our colds dont get wore we may zip over to WDW to see some Christmas decorations or go and see "Deck the Hall" with Danny DiVito. It looks pretty funny. That is about it for us.

Guess it is about time for the daily walk that Minnie takes me on each day.I iwll check back this afternoon to see what's happening here,

Good Morning all:

Pinto Beans huh?!! I like mine with raw onions over southern corn bread (not the northern sweet kind)-never thought about baking with 'em.
My mom makes a mean fudge that uses american cheese-yes that's right cheese-really good however NOT low fat :rotfl2:

DH has finished our second DVD from the cruise-everything looks great-he even got film of that bad rain storm we drove into-looked like we were going into the Bermuda Triangle or something. :rotfl:

Well...laundry is calling my name......

 I have a question about the cruise. I read somewhere that everyone has to go through customs in St. Thomas. What is that all about? It sounded like it is more than a swipe of your card. Since, we plan on cruising more and want to take a trip with the kids to Europe in a couple of years, I am starting the paperwork to get us all passports. Bill (DH) already has one and mine expired years ago. I know we don't need them yet, but I don't like travelling with all our original birth certificates and I even took my marriage license (to show of my name change).

:thumbsup2 Bill (DH) is now a walking advertisement for Disney Cruise Line. When he went back to work, he couldn't stop raving about the trip. He has about four or five people seriously considering a DCL cruise next year. They say word of mouth is the best advertisement. :cool1:

Okie,
if you can I would love to have the recipe for the fudge made with cheese. Could you get it sometime and PM it to me?? I would really appreciate it.
i want to try it.

Jennifer,
customs at St. Thomas is easy but everyone on the ship has to go through it.
For those who have early morning excursions it starts at 6:30 a.m. in the Walt Disney Theater. They give you a paper the night before that tells you when you need to report according to your plans for the day.
You basically ALL have to go to the theater where you check in as you enter the theater, they will call you row by row the CM's will have you get up and walk down to one of the customs agents who will want to see your passports or photo ID and birth certificates. Sometimes they ask you a basic question about where you live or when your birthday is. Then you go out a different exit where a CM stamps your hand with an invisible stamp. That is all there is to it.

But if you dont have that hand stamp you will NOT be allowed off the ship. they will check everyones hands as they leave the ship. If you fail to show up at customs a CM will be knocking on your door, because everyone is required to go through this.

They do have coffee and juice available as you enter the theater. if you have an early excursion you must dash quickly for breakfast or have room service bring it at 6 a.m. so you eat it before customs. We had a 7:15 excursion and made it ok, but with kids it can be tricky to get everyone fed in time to get off the ship, so plan ahead.

Hope that helps some. It is different if your NOT a U.S. citizen.

Jennifer,
Tell Bill to have them come along with us, :grouphug: we've got plenty of room here!!
We need more people to post and get this thread going strong!! :woohoo:

Kathy

St. Thomas customs wasn't as bad as I thought....but then again we had an afternoon excursion. We didn't have to do our customs thing until 7:15am <yawn>....just part of the experience. The tendering was more of a pain than customs....anyone remember that fiasco?

Great day to all.....
