So... does that mean if we went to Canada we would save 42%??
Do you always stay in WDW Jaime? I'd love to stay in the AKL sometime. But I've never stayed on property (not that I've been that many times tho!)
Actually you would have saved 49% because you would have also got a GST rebate...
We have went 3 times since 2001...In 2001 we stayed off-site because with the exchange rate of 42% it just cost to much to stay on-site...some off-site hotels offered at par discounts to Canadians who paid for there stay before we left Canada to help with the exchange rate...SeaWorld and Universal Studios also offered at par tickets for Canadians.
In 2004 we stayed off site for 6 nights in the same hotel as 2001 then we rented points of a DVC member to stay in a 2 bedroom Villa at the Boardwalk for 4 nights...wow it was great! It was the same price as staying at the All stars for us

we paid $100 per family...we shared the room with Michelle's family and my dad...Michelle's family stayed in the studio room and my family and my dad stayed in the 1 bedroom...we could walk to MGM and EPCOT...and it made afternoon breaks so easy...no driving...no crowded parking lots...and being able to rest at the hotel mid afternoon and return in the evening made it actually relaxing...plus having a kitchen and a washer and dryer was great with small kids...
In 2005 our TA was offering a FREE dining deal to stay at the POP Century for 7 days that included airfare from here...it cost us $3200 Canadian for the 4 of us. It included all of our food...all of our transportation... and our park passes. Airfare alone can sometimes cost that from here to Orlando. Usually the cheapest seat sale we can leave the island for going anywhere is $500 return...
This trip dh wanted to do something different besides WDW

we had enough airmiles for our airfare so we decided to take a cruise on
RCCL...and for my Birthday gift he added on 4 nights at Saratoga Springs...we decided to rent DVC points again...when the dollar starting getting so great here we switched to the 4 day Wonder cruise...once the price dropped for the 7 night Magic cruise we switched to that...
Staying onsite makes life alot easier with small children...especially at the DVC resorts...we didn't find the POP century to be nearly as convenient and would choose to stay off site over staying there if it was more than a night...if I lived in the US I think I would have bought a DVC membership by now
We love taking the girls to WDW when they are small...they loved it...and until they were 3 it was free for them to go to the parks and character meals...we always took them in off-season though and we would take them to the parks in the morning then go back to the hotel in the afternoon for a swim and a nap then we'd take them back to the parks supper time to see the fireworks...we would never go to the park that was offering extra hours that day because we found in off-season the park that offers extra magic hours is the busiest.
