DH and I are thinking about spending our 10 anniversary at Disney. We just recently got back with the kids (4,2)and had a great time. This may sound silly but we are a little concerned about going without them. We truly enjoyed seeing them light up at everything around them!

Do any of you have any experience with an adults only trip? Pros, cons, favorite things to do? We would also like suggestions on resorts, moderate being the most expensive we would do. It would likely be a 3 day ticket with park hopper around Labor Day.

Having the kids around to see their reaction is great but I love adults only more. My adult only trips is because my daughter grew up so I don't have the romantic list of things that are great to do and will differ that to others...

The big changes we have is we're a lot more casual going through the parks. We're taking it in, we're noticing things we never noticed before, we're doing attractions that we're in the mood for, discovering old attractions we've never bothered with in a long time. We're not rushing to get to the parks because being there is the magic now and it doesn't really matter. We're able to do some tours that child aren't allowed, we can spend more times doing pretty much nothing. Just going to a random resort and enjoying it is a great time and we don't even need the parks.. We're jumping into thing suddenly happening that you probably wouldn't even know was going on (the daily fix is good for learning about these).

I think a lot of this is we're not constantly looking around for where the kids currently are. We can pay attention to what is around us and not where they are..

DH and I haven't done an adults only trip since the kids were born, but we went to Disney together a lot before they came along!! Adult only trips are fantastic, and we definitely want to do one again once our youngest is a few years older.

For a moderate, I would totally stay at POFQ for an adults only. I think the resort is nice and compact and has a cool ambiance. However, I know that DH would insist on an Epcot resort for easy access to World Showcase. ::yes::

My son and I started going when he was around 2 1/2, he is now 35 so we have a lot of adult trips under our belts. Like Accident, since we are a mother/son we don't do romantic things but we have learned we enjoy the adult trips more. We don't ride as many rides, for a couple of reasons. He is a medically retired Navy Corpsman, he contracted some sort of viral infection which moved into his spinal cord so any ride that jerks, hurts. Another reason is as adults, we've learned to appreciate the little hidden gems around the parks and resorts. We stood in the courtyard of Italy in WS for about 1/2 hour last trip just looking up and discovering all the details. We do tours, we resort hop, we watch the street performers. We are never in a hurry, we rarely book FPs more than a day in advance and even then they are fluid. We don't book ADRs until the morning or even afternoon of, you can book them at places you know your kids might not like to at any time during the day. You don't have to have a schedule, as adults you can have that relaxed spur of the moment trip that isn't always possible with little ones. If you are wine drinkers, I recommend trying the wine tastings at WS in Epcot. German, Italy and France all have them, Italy actually has two since they have a wine bar restaurant and a wine store that has tastings.

Adult only trips are so much more relaxing than with the kids. You can do those things that you normally would not do when they are around.
As for which moderate, I like the POR (Formally DL) resort. Checkout the DVC rent/trade board you can stay in a condo-type room at a deluxe resort for less than staying at a moderate hotel room.
What you do outside the parks, depends on what you are into:
sports: golf, mini-golf, fishing, marathon, bowling, ESPN Club, WWS/ESPN Zone, etc
shopping: DTD, area outlet malls, large scale malls
drinking: Jellyrolls, Raglan Road, monorail tour of resorts, walking tour of resorts in the Boardwalk area
movies: DTD 24 screen theater some with meals served by waiters
night clubbing: Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, Raglan Road, Citywalk
resort tours: monorail tour of resorts, Boardwalk around the lake tour of resorts, horse drawn tour of FWC, AKL/AKV
offsite: Gaylord Palms Resort, Citywalk, swamp tour
eating: Formal GF 5* Chef's Table @ V&As

Congratulations on your upcoming 10th anniversary! I think com_op_2000 hit many of the possibilities. There is so much for adults to enjoy in Disney. Like 'Accident' says, take it a bit slow and enjoy the overall experience. Visit the attractions, like the American Experience or Hall of the Presidents, that the kids might not enjoy. Spend time in the World Showcase as 'loves to dive' suggests.

From your 3 day ticket comment I infer that you are planing a short trip. While the lure of spending precious Disney time in the parks is strong I gently suggest planning at least an afternoon of relaxation. Enjoy some quiet time together. Whether it is at your resort or somewhere else you might enjoy spending time.

Wishing you a magical trip!

My wife and I did our 20th at WDW and had an absolute blast without the kids. We ate at several nice restaurants (Narcoossee's and Flying Fish). We did the Sunrise Safari at the Animal Kingdom and the best was the Sunset Safari at AKL.
