DS and I are driving back to L.A. from Texas and spending the night in Buckeye, AZ. (near Phoenix). When we arrived this afternoon at 5:00 the therm. on my car (which is pretty accurate) said 118 degrees and when we went out to the store at 9:30 pm it said 107 degrees. We are running our motel AC on HIGH cool and it is comfy, not cold which I usually have to turn it off when it's on low cool cause I get cold but not tonight. Can you just imagine what folks energy bills run out here? You would have to have the AC going 24/7 in this kind of heat.

It's hot here in So. Cal, but not that hot, yikes!

It is so beautiful in the spring and fall but I just can't take that heat!
Have a great trip!

Yes, my BIL lives in Phoenix, and DH and I went to visit him last year. We picked up our rental car at the airport around 10pm and the temperature reading was 111 degrees.

It's been just hitting the nineties here and thats too hot for me. I feel for you!

When I visit over there, I can cope better with the 110+deg dry heat of Arizona than the 90deg humid heat of Florida.

Yep, I used to live in Phoenix and I'd come out of an air conditioned building at midnight (worked a late shift) and the heat radiating off the asphalt in the parking lot would just hit you as you went outside! Felt like walking into an oven :furious:

Still, I was used to it then. Probably couldn't handle it now!

And just think, with all this concrete and asphalt that has replaced green vegetation and tree canopy there still exists a certain segment of population that believes we are not adding to the temperature increase of our planet.

Sorry for stepping up on the podium.

I was going to say you must be visiting AZ. I love it here it's here except for the months of July-Septemeber when it's hot but then I just stay inside. AC runs 24/7 but it's not that pricy (I'm on the yearly average plan) especially since we really don't pay hundreds of dollars for heat in the winter!

You get used to the heat I have!

It was 103 here yesterday and supposed to be in the 100's for the weekend and into next week. Last night at 10 it was still 90 outside.

And our air conditioning bill is ridiculously high and this was before we got hit with the 100+ days. Last year we were paying almost 200 a month to keep cool.

The power company is actually begging people to let them put a monitor on their central air conditioners because the system gets overloaded and then we get to experience brown outs for 30 min to an hour at a time.
