$103 Fine for Swearing in School. What do you think?

Ahhh haaaa haaa haaa. Go ahead and TRY to charge my high schooler $103. And good luck collecting on that...he has no source of income. Don't look at ME, by the way. I'm not paying it!

Our county police officers are there for the safety of the students. Our students are not "out of control". That is a nasty thing to say.:sad2:

He directs traffic arriving/dismissal, teaches DARE, and does a lot of other good things in the school. Plus he goes to surrounding elementary schools to be a resource officer there.

When there is a fight, drug issue, or other illegal thing he handles it. The teachers do not have to police the student body, our resource officer takes care of it.

It wasn't directed to you or your school district. We too have an officer in our schools. I feel it is totally unnecessary, but they are there for the "eventuality". Its a waste of taxpayer $$$$.

See that's problem with crap like this. You will be responsible. Total bs.

I'm sure the parents of the Columbine victims wouldn't have felt it a waste even if it spared one life.

So what occurs if he were to get a speeding ticket or a parking violation when he finally has his license? Or do you plan to remind him to not break those laws to avoid such fines b/c he won't be able to drive?

I can understand you not paying it. But do you feel his inability to pay puts him above the law?

It's not a law.

Oh and a law is different from a school policy and I'll tell you how. When we break a law we can expect some kind of financial ramifications. Do you really.....REALLY....want to set up that expectation for when your child breaks a school policy. Because it could happen. And why stop at swearing. There is an endless amount of trouble a kid can cause at school.

Many people here seem to have just fabulous children and $103 wouldn't break you. But take one second to think about the families who are having problems putting food on the table who may be struggling with their kids behavior despite their best efforts. You really want to start charging them when a kid breaks a school rule? That strikes me as cruel.

I totally agree! This rule is silly.

These rules I like to call "parenting the parent." We should all be offended to tell you the truth. This is a school SO convinced that mom and dad are incapable of providing proper discipline at home that the school threatens and disciplines the parents. See what I mean? Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and, in case you can't tell, I feel kind of strongly about it.

A-freaking-men :worship:

We have police in every middle/high school here in our district as an FYI to you.

Oh, we have them, too, and we even have them part time in the elementary school. A more ridiculous waste of resources I can't imagine. If we need them on the payroll, I'd much rather see them doing something that would actually make the community safer, rather than, say, handing out tickets for cussing or teaching the DARE program, something that has been shown over and over again to be totally ineffective.
