Disney postpones 100 Years of Magic press event
Alan Byrd
Last week's events have had an unexpected effect on plans for the 100 Years of Magic Celebration.

The event was to be held at Walt Disney World resort starting in October.

The company has postponed its planned media event and told 5,000 reporters, photographers and broadcast personalities not to come on the originally scheduled date.

Typically, Disney uses such festivities to promote its large-scale events, as the company receives stories and broadcast footage across the world. The upcoming event is scheduled to last through 2002.

Disney says it plans to reschedule but has not set a date.

Just got off the phone with Onyx a Disney reservstions.
She states that the Oct 1 kick off date is still on, but the press function
has been moved to an unknown date. I hope the press isn't there
when I'm there. 5000 reporters? Yuck!

The new dates are DEC 3-5. 5000 media is nothing compared to the 15.000 high school football players and cheerleaders that invade WDW in early Dec.
actually the media tend to be too busy to go on rides or wait in line for anything. they tend to have their own parties and access to the parks after they are closed.:)

I'm glad I've already made my resservations for the first week of December, especially in light of the re-scheduled event. I've been stuck trying to make ressies during press events and it's often downright impossible. They pretty much have full run of the place. With huge blocks of rooms pulled fom CRO's data base, it should prove challenging to say the least for anyone planning a trip that week.

Good call. But do you realize that both the media event and football compition are on that week at the same time. I'm actually part of the media and I'm dreading the thought of the crowds and wild high schoolers. Having been to other media events i've come to realize we are oblivious to the fact that there are guest trying to enjoy themselves while we clog up the path ways with our gear and such. i try and be considerate to others.
i was actually booked in to take a personell vacation those days and have now moved my plans till early Jan. What days in Jan. would you suggest?
