Is it true that you absolutely cannot buy less than 160 pts thru disney if it's your first time as a dvc-er? I would like to buy in but the $16 K is just so much money to fork over and we dont want to finance. I would really only like to buy about 100 points which I can buy resale for about $85/point which would only cost me about $9K..But I do like the incentives that disney is offering w/ double developer points or 2006/07 points w/ no maintenance.
I was working w/ a guide but I dont want to call him back again and bother him if he cant give me what I want which is about 100 points.

Can anyone give me some advice???

The min through Disney is 160 points the only way to get 100 is through resale... If you vacation every year then 160 is not a lot... You will be suprised :lmao: especially after you stay in a one or two bedroom... I do not see how resale is much cheaper on current resorts you can save a few dollars a point but now with the double incentive it would be cehaper to buy through Disney especially if you rent some points.. But you may also be able to negotiate a good deal through resale now as a seller would need to give you some reason to buy form them.... but on smaller contrcats that is harder as they are very desirable

Nope, no less than 160 for your first time. You can't even divide up the 160 into smaller contracts.
We had the same issue, so we decided to buy a 50pt resale contract at HH, because we wanted one of the ocean properties and AKV. We only want a total of 150pts, so next year we will purchase 100 AKV through Disney.

Ok, maybe I am S-L-O-W but I am just confused how it is cheaper to buy through disney than to buy 100 pts resale at $85??
I ultimately want to have 200 points but we are thinking that we can only afford 100 pts now and in a few years we will add on.
We stayed in a studio in Feb and although it was tight, we had so much fun we are thinking about doing it one last time while we have a baby in a pack and play.. I saw the 1 bedrooms and I know we will eventually need a 2 bdrm so I know what I'm missing, but financially we arent there yet.
So please explain how you think it's cheaper. Maybe I just dont get it..
And, any idea how long the incentive will last??
Thanks for your replies!

Well, if you can find a resale with banked points or current points and a close use year (for example a 100 point August contract with all 2006 points and all 100 coming in August) it is kinda the same as developer points. Those contracts go faster than 'stripped' contracts so tell the reseller exactly what you want and ask them to call you when they get a listing. Be prepared to say yes when they call because it may not last long if it is a good contract. (You do have 10 days to back out of any timeshare sale in Florida after signing the offer sheet - but If you do that I wouldn't necessarily expect your reseale agent to keep calling with juicy offers).

Also be aware that once you are a member you can add on in any amount over 25 points. So you could by a cheap 25 or 50 point contract through resale also and then by another 50 through Disney - I think the minimum for incentives is 100 points - though you can buy 4 25 point contracts at one time to get incentives (Once you by a chunk of points you can never break them up, so smaller contracts allow you to sell part of your points rather than all or leave your points to multiple children for example).
