After running the numbers it seems our fanily of 5 would benefit from puchasing the dining plan except for the fact that my soon to 10yr old will not want to eat from the adult menu-that said has anyone had any experience asking for adult portion of something on the child menu? Or any suggestions.

We have had to pay the adult price for my 12 year old the last two times we went to WDW and she almost always orders off of the children's menu. They don't care which menu she orders off of. I have never ordered an adult-sized portion, but she's a pretty hardy eater and has always had plenty of food.

As noted, there should be no problem ordering from the children's menu and paying with the adult credit. As for the extra portion, don't know about that, it'd probably be up to the restaurant.

You could also pay cash for the kid's child meals and save the adult credits, which can be used by any adult in your party. You could save those up for signature meals or dinner shows.

When we went last Sept , My 15 year old always ordered off the kids menu and got a bigger portion of food.

Thanks for asking this. My son is autistic and is VERY picky and he will be 11 on his next trip. All he eats are chicken nuggets and fries and I was wondering if he would be able to get these on the DDP as an adult. Not sure if it would be so cost effective that way. Maybe we will stick with the quick service plan next trip now that I think about it. Great question though!

Also keep in mind that there may be more flexibility than you realize in ordering for an "adult child" (that is, someone 10 and over on the adult plan). Are there "basic" items on the adult menu that your child does eat -- things like chicken, or roasted meats, or pasta? You can almost always ask to have something prepared without the sauces, or with different sides, as long as the basic items are on the menu. You can ask for a piece of plain grilled chicken with a side of plain pasta if those items appear within other entrees on the menu, for example. Also, at the resorts especially keep in mind that all the kitchens are connected, so if you're eating at a more "upscale" restaurant that doesn't have fries on the menu, you can probably still get them because the kitchen is connected to the "family" restaurant that's also in the resort.

We just returned from 9 days on DxDDP with our "10-year-old adult" and had no problem having him eat well, and happily, off of adult menus by talking with the CMs and finding ways to put together meals.

I have the same dilemma with my 10 year old. We've decided not to use the dining plan this time around for ultimate flexibility. I don't want to have to jump through hoops in order to use all of the credits he wouldn't use. We're going to mostly buffets for our sit down meals.
