10 yr old is considered adult for pricing purposes??

Read what you wrote above and before - You inferred or accused me: 1) that I wanted special treatment and I think I'm more special than others, 2) that I don't like their rules, 3) that I want to see if they can be bent for me. I never said any of that. All I wanted to know is if others have had similar experiences. I don't think I'm more special than others and I don't think I'm entitled.

Also, I don't agree with the comments about "most people." Most people don't ask because they don't know if it will work, feel uncomfortable, don't think they should, etc.

Are you telling me that you've never asked for an upgraded room at a hotel, e.g. room with a view, different from what you've paid for? Even if you haven't, I'm sure "most people" have, even at WDW, in part because they know of others that have and gotten it to work. In their mind there's nothing wrong with it and it's acceptable to ask.

My view of my experience at H&V was that it was a somewhat similar situation to a hotel upgrade. However, I asked on this board because I wasn't sure and I knew disboards was a great resource of people and experiences. I'm finding out that it wasn't the same, my experience was apparently an anomaly, and I'm fine with that.

If I read this incorrectly, then I apologize...

I I've read every post and completely understand Disney's policy. I'm just not all that happy since my DD is picky, rail thin, and eats like a small bird, i.e. I'm not going to get my money's worth out of her meals.

To me, that read as you are unhappy with Disney's policy. As for the other comments, I never said you thought you were special, I was just letting you know that you weren't to prove a point. And you absolutely are after special treatment by even asking the question about it being possible. For the record, no, I have never asked for an "upgraded" anything. I pay for what I want. Period.

I wasn't so much unhappy with Disney's policy as with my situation, knowing that my DD doesn't eat much.

You are still incorrect about me being after special treatment.

To be clear, I had already received the special treatment with that experience at H&V. I already knew the rules could be bent because they were in that instance.

If I was the type of person that felt entitled or someone that always wanted special treatment, I would've assumed that was the way WDW worked and would've asked for the same at every buffet on this upcoming trip. If I was the type of person that only cared about myself and my entitlement, why would I even care about others' experiences or opinions?

However, what I did instead was pose the question on this message board so that I could know if that experience and my request was not uncommon and was acceptable, or if I should count it as an anomaly. I understand that it's obviously the latter scenario, and I'm okay with that.

Fair enough. My apologies. I hope you take my suggestion about having your 10 year old try most if not all of the offerings. Worked wonders with my 9 year old DS. My 11 year old DD out eats me and DS combined! :rotfl: Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

Thanks.

I totally agree about the suggestion for her to try new things. I've tried many times before with varying success. I may try even harder when we eat at Boma for dinner one evening since they have some interesting selections. :scratchin

Boma is one of our family's favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, now that our oldest daughter is 10, I just can't bear to pay the dinner price for it so that she can eat chicken nuggets and french fries. On our last trip, I took her to Sanaa for her birthday. She loved it! She gobbled up the bread service and really liked the tandoori chicken. Now, instead of Boma for dinner, we will opt for Sanaa so she can order what she wants.

I often order kids' meals for myself at CS restaurants and I have never had a problem. I have never been questioned about it and one CM recently told me that "that's what a lot of people do". The adult menu is not strictly for those over 10 so I don't see why the children's menu is strictly for those under 10. It is a smaller portion of food and the price reflects that. Now, buffets and TS restaurants are another story since I believe that they are "experiences" and the prices reflect that. I would never consider ordering (or attempting to order) off of a children's menu at a TS restaurant. If we need to cut expenses, I will often share an adult meal with one (or both) of the kids and add an appetizer.

Co-worker stealing? Guest stealing? You've got to be kidding. What did I steal exactly, a single plate of food for my DD that I paid for?

No one said that YOU had stolen anything. They said that the hostess did. She didn't take the correct amount of money that should have gone to pay for the 10+ year old. Since tips are based on what you pay, she took money from your server as well.

There's no way for a server to easily monitor whether or not a person only eats a small amount of food. If they change it for you, they are taking you at your word, and I'm SURE you know how many people would absolutely lie about this sort of thing. They don't know you.

I wouldn't ask, personally. If I feel the total meal will come out negatively (if I'm not going to eat much, if DH isn't going to eat much, and if DS isn't going to eat much) I just won't go to that restaurant. But I resigned myself to Disney prices LONG ago, and Disney math means that character meals and set-price meals are about more than JUST the meal itself. And that it's important to look at what everyone is eating, or getting out of the meal, rather than just one person.

All this said while making a Brown Derby reservation for me and my son. He's still 9 but he's no longer interested in his traditional kid's option there (a surprisingly taste grilled cheese on wheat), and wants to try the $29 tofu noodle bowl there. I'm scared of such a price jump for him, but I'm doing it!

Ok so I have 2 nine yr olds that turn 10 next month. They appear to be 8 at best. Twins, 4 foot 2, 60 lbs and not big eaters at all. I did not do the ddp but made a reservation for bfast at tusker. Are you telling me I have to pay adult price for these two? I mean how are they gonna know they are 10? I really don't think they would be questioned about the age cause they are so young looking and really young mind set still. I really wanna go with the kids price on this reservation!? We go to Disney last week of June

Oh boy, this post is going to bring out the DIS/Disney police.

Personally I think it is ludicrous to pay $35 for a child to order of the kid's menu.

Good. Don't eat there:)

I think it is ludicrous to spend $9 for a beer at wdw. So I do to buy them.

Umm, I know I don't ( or anyone else) need YOU telling me where not to eat!!! I never even mentioned how I dine at WDW. I long gave up DDP when my kids became 'adults'. We use TIW and are very happy. It comes down to what people are comfortable doing. But, thanks for proving my point about 'bringing out the DIS police'. Have a MAGICAL day!

Lol guess I shoulda said "general you!" Just making a point. If ANYONE can't afford the food or doesn't want to pay for the food then don't eat there.

I wouldn't ever ask for something different than what I "qualify" for.

I'm a petite adult and it's never worth my money to go to a buffet. In fact, it's only reasonable for me to go to most restaurants because I can take half of it home in a doggie bag.

I'm going to 'Ohana for my birthday dinner in January. I actually mentioned to my husband last night that I may cancel because we are paying OOP and it's simply not worthwhile. I won't even eat $10 worth of food, I'm sure. However, he encouraged me to keep the reservation because it's for my birthday and we enjoy the food and experience there.

I wouldn't even think of asking them to charge me less because I don't eat very much. I don't want to knowingly put people in an uncomfortable position. I am not more special than anyone else there and I know what I'm getting myself into by booking the dinner.
