10 YO on DDP

My daughter was considered a child last time we went so all of the kids meals were just great for her. She is now considered an adult, but would be more than happy to order off of the kids menu, she is kind of picky. Do the restaurants let you, if you are on the DDP anyway, order off of the kids menu?

I have a bone to pick with Disney about what they figure as "adults"..I know that the DDP is different and that doesn't bother me as much.
However, when we were there a couple of weeks ago with the dance groups we took a large group to WC. We had a seperate table for the girls and they all ranged from 9-12 years old. Not a one of them could actuall finish a kids meal, much less a full plated adult meal. The server said that they must order off of the adult menu. Several of the girls came without their parents and generally had about $15 to spend. Most of their meals were at least that before drinks. I felt so bad, and since it was our idea I covered the remainder. Needless to say we could have feed a whole other table with what was left over.
I think that is ridiculous and wasteful!

You would have done better to go to one of the restaurants that would have let the girls share meals. My DH and I often share meals when we don't want to get a lot.

Actually, Disney has elected to consider all Guests ages ten and over as adults for both ticketing and dining purposes - for consistency - for a number of years; longer than the Disney Dining Plan has been in existence.

I think most places will let her order off the kids menu as long as you are using the dining plan to pay for her meal and not trying to save her credits and pay cash.

We just got back from being on the dining plan for 2 weeks. There were a few restaurants that my 10yo only wanted to eat off the kids menu. Whenever I asked the servers they always said that was fine. We paid OOP for her when she ordered off the kids menu and saved her ts credits, as suggested by the servers.

good to know.....we told her that if possible she should order from the adult menu, but if there was nothing she liked, then she can order from the kids menu.....

She is a child that doesn't like chicken, so it gets kind of tricky!

I have the same problem. my ds was counted as a child last year and could never finish a childs meal. This year he's an "adult", I've read quite a few threads about this & it seems like you are able to order kids meals & either use your adult ddp (which we will do) or pay OOPs & save ts for later. (we would'nt use any extra). We are doing a lot of buffets.

When we went in 2005 (which I know things have changed since then), it was *right* when the ages changed to consider all kids 10+ adults at meals. Lucky me I had an 11 year old.

There was no problem whatsoever with her ordering off the kid's menu. In reality, we ended up using credits for my 3 year old for meals at places that we had to order a plate at. This might not be possible anymore though.

We were on the Premium plan and we got 3 meals/day -- we just had extra credits, so basically my 3 year old was using my adult credits.

They even let her mix & match. If she wanted a dessert off the adult menu but kid's meal, she was able to do that. At Yachtsman Steakhouse, we *all* wanted a dessert that was on the kid's menu. They let us do that.

We did do a lot of buffets. My whole family is rather plain eaters so they were quite accomodating & it worked.

Next time we go, we will have the same situation again because my boys are going to be that borderline age. I'm hoping it will work out again otherwise I guess if there is nothing on the menu they like & they won't let them order off the kid's menu...they will just skip that meal and we will get them something else later.
