I just read something in another thread about birth certificates needing to be less than 10-years-old. Can someone confirm or deny this rumor? I'm getting on a plane in about 36 hrs, and there's no way I can get another. Mine is 31 years old!!! Wouldn't they mention this in the literature if it was true? Help!

Well unless they made this rule in the past 10 months I flew and sailed with my old 40 year old B/C and was fine in May of last year! And even more than that my 75 year old mom flew and sailed with her 75 year old B/C!!

Passports expire after 10 years. Perhaps someone got the two confused.

I saw the post you mentioned, and I SUSPECT that person was born in a state that did not start issuing Certified birth certificates until 10 years ago.
With all the post 9-11 security, and the fact that Passports are good for 10 years, I suspect a lot of folks born in whatever state that is are being flagged by the State Department to get Certified birth certificates to renew their passports.
A certified birth certificate is one that either has a raised seal on it, or is printed on special raised ink paper.
