I have already purchased an adult pass for our 10 year old for our upcoming trip as I am a rule follower. I've asked before if it is still OK to order her kids meals (we are NOT on the dining plan) as she does not get into fancy meals nor does she eat a lot. Breakfast (we are eating in the room) is her main meal and she picks at food and snacks usually the rest of the day. If I book the Fantasmic Package for H&V, do I have to pay an adult price for her? If I ordered adult meals for her ever at home or during our stay I would not even ask, but seems silly to pay an adult price for her when that not is not the 'norm' for her. What do you think? I know it's only about $15 or so, but it just seems so wasteful. :)

At buffets, since she's over 10, it'll be the adult cost. At restaurants with menus she can order kids meals though for the price on the menu.

Unfortunately, she will be charged the adult price. I have a ten year old myself and feel your pain! There is absolutely no wiggle room when it comes to meals where you are charged "per head". Also, with it being part of a package, (Fantasmic!) you can just look at it as money you are paying to hold her seat in the stadium. I have six kids but only one child (a soon to be 5 year old) will be charged as such. It has been that way for many years now for us. We have started looking at it as breaking us in gently for what the teen age years will cost us to raise that child!:rotfl:

That is correct except in the case of the Fantasmic! package she is booking. Even for a sit-down meal (like Mama Melrose) she would have to pay for an adult meal.

I guess that is where I get confused. The 'package' is not supposed to cost anything extra other than a fixed price for dinner. A child and an adult sitting on a bench at Fantasmic! take up the same amount of room. I would pay for an adult buffet if I had to, but there is no way I would pay for an adult plated meal for my child to eat a grilled cheese sandwich just because it is part of a package that includes a 'free' 'reserved' seat. We did H&V last year and I was not impressed. I'm certainly not going to pay even more this time. I guess we will just wait in line this time. I just don't get into all of this dining stuff. When we are at Disney, we aren't there to eat. Looks like it will be hotdogs at our seats instead. Thanks for the input.

well b.c its a buffet your still gonna have to pay adults price but its really not a waste b.c she can eat as muchh or as little as she wants and pule H&V has the bestttt dessert buffet so she can have whatever she wants from there also :)

Yes, it is a set price, just like at a buffet. So either way, she will pay adult price at H&V. I was referring to the restaurant she was questioning.

But you would have to. Disney has your daughter on record as being a "Disney adult" for pricing purposes, and the Fantasmic! Dining Package requires the purchase of an entree for each adult on on the reservation.

OP, your 10 yo is considered an adult when dining. This is the exact reason that we stopped going to buffets when my grandson turned 11 (the rule changed then--it use to be 11 then changed to 9). He too was a pizza, chicken strips guy and was not into adult food. Trails End was the only buffet we took him to during those transtitional years. He's 14 yo now and eats adult food, so this year we are heading to a buffet again (1900 PF), so I'm sure he'll eat adult food and portions now. There is no way around the rule unless you lie.

I dont understand why any buffet charges adult price for a 10 year old!!! We have a 10 yr old and and 11 yr old that dont eat much of anything and we had to buy the adult dining plan for them!!! Its not just Disney, its everywhere!!!

My friend was in a similar situation in one restaurant where her child only liked the kid menu. So she just saved one adult meal for a later time and paid cash for the kids menu. Otherwise she would had to pay an adult price for the kids menu. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I can't explain 'anywhere', but I can try to explain Disney :)

Back in the olden days,,,
Disney determined that the typical ten year old is tall enough to safely ride all the park attractions, even those with height restrictions.
They therefore set the cut-off age for park admission at 10 and above = adult; 3 - 9 = child; under 3 = free.
However, at that time, the cut-off age in restaurants was twelve - twelve and under = child, 13 and above = adult.
Probably in response to a combination of: complaints over the inequity, research indicating the typical ten-plus child eats more, research indicating the typical ten-plus child has an expanded palate, requests from Guests that Disney's different age restrictions were confusing, and a bunch of other stuff I haven't even consider - Disney chose a single adult/child cut-off age.

Just because your ten year old still only eats "kid food" doesn't mean that's true of every ten year old; conversely, there are many adults who post here "I only eat chicken strips, will they let me select from the Kid section of the buffet or do you need to actually be a kid?"
