10 things I learned on my last DVC trip...

1. It's best to contact the department that will be doing the service instead of depending on the front desk. They are, after, all only human and sometimes drop the ball.

2. My Mother in Law is a commando.

3. It's OK to grab one of the kids and ditch the rest of the family to go do something really fun. 13 year olds (and 38 year olds) enjoy Typhoon Lagoon lots more than "The Little Mermaid."

4. Even for a week long stay 4 "outfits" are plenty.

5. It's nice to let the family sleep in and relax with a newspaper and breakfast alone on the balcony. I used to try to wake everyone up so we could get to the parks early but only succeeded in making them grumpy. This trip commando MIL got everyone going early and I discovered that it really isn't worth it.

6. My kids are better behaved than EVERYONE else's kids, and lots of adults too. :p

7. I prefer having Mouse Keeping at least every third day. I'm on vacation, I don't want to do the dishes or wash the towels.

8. I can handle Mission Space with a tummy full of ice cream and frozen Coke.

9. If nobody else wants to go see the parade and fireworks it's not so bad to go alone.

10. Leaving is easier if you have at least one other trip already booked.

Amen to #10 from me too, and I learned #5 to my family's delight!

#10 should be the DVC motto -- "It's easier to leave when the next trip is already planned!"

I also agree on #5. We sleep late, at least my family does. I love the quiet times in the mornings. It's not worth getting everyone up and having them exhausted, although we do miss out on prime "empty" park time. We prefer staying at the parks 'til closing and getting on lots of rides then.

Glad you had fun! :)

Thanks for a laugh this morning! :)

I love number 10. On Thursday of last week as DD22 and I were packing to leave WDW, we had the "where do you want to stay next time?" discussion.

I did #9 on one of our trips and really enjoyed myself. It was a lot better that listening to others growl and grumble. Let them go back to the hotel, where they will be happier!

Learn from this board that #2 is a definate no no from the start. LOL

Just tried #8 for the first time - I will not be doing that again!!!! I am the commando, so I think I will stop that on our next trip. If I could add anything to the list it would be - bring Salt and Pepper (it was the one thing I didn't know was not going to be in the room and eggs are really bad without it!!!!)

Totally agree with #10

When I leave the BCVs on April 14, I will have 2 upcoming trips on the horizon. One at SSR in July and one at the BCVs in Dec!

During busy times, it's best to get up early then come back to the room at lunch or have a quiet lunch somewhere. Just don't do it every day and plan ahead by getting in bed.

Totally agree w/#10.

Have a solo trip in June so I didn't mind leaving thia past Friday. However, the rest of the family did not see things my way and tried for all they could get from this trip. I kept saying to myself - "I can do this when I come back in two months"! :teeth:

Another Amen to #10.
We also discovered this after we became DVC members.

Will be practicing it on Friday. We are going to take in a Half day at the World before leaving on the Magic on Saturday.
Sure I can do just one day, I'm coming back in August for a week. :D

I loved all of your tips and got a chuckle out of them this morning, but this one is my favorite!

THANKS!

Amen to all 10. Lots of smiling, nodding and occasional chuckling :p thru the original post.

Salt & Pepper make a good addition, and if I may add something we learned:
It is OK just to hang around the resort for one or more days during your visit.
I certainly wish we had at AKL, and of course that is the beauty of VB.
::yes::

#10 is the key. It is our mantra around our house lately. Can't wait to get there in August and just be lazy since we're already booked for November. The joys of DVC!!!!
