Narcoosee's
11/11/04 (6:00 PS)
We were seated by the window overlooking MK. It took a while for 'Maureen' to make it to the table. Informed her we were dining on the Silver Plan. We have used the plan before when the meals included appetizer and salad. When I attempted to order both Maureen informed me I could have one or the other, not both. I asked if she was sure and she became irritated. That was her demeanor for the rest of the meal. For an appetizer I ordered Prince Edward Mussels, DH the Shrimp Cocktail. The mussels were a first for me - not bad. After about a dozen or so they started to taste too fishy so I sent them away. DH enjoyed his shrimp cocktail but felt teased with the 4 they gave him. We both wanted a Filet and Lobster tail for the Main course. But the filet doesn't come with a lobster tail so we tried adding the lobster tail. Maureen said we couldn't do that. We were confused because we'd done that in the past, although not at Narcoosee's. She suggested we order the Beef Medallions, which come with a lobster tail. Well, I didn't like that meal at all! The medallions were saturated in a harsh seasoning I thought too overpowering. The lobster tail was tiny and so dried out I could hardly remove the shell. Needless to say I didn't eat much. DH ate his meal but agreed it was disappointing. The view was nice but not much different than what we could see from the room. And just like I'd read, this place was noisy! Maureen never inquired about how the meal was. Guess she didn't care. Decided not to order dessert realizing Maureen would get an even bigger tip she did not deserve.

Ohana
11/12/04 (5:30 PS)
We were seated by the window overlooking the lagoon. The fireworks going off on the beach were nice. 'Melisse' was our waitress, cousin 'Cliff' her assistant. They were pleasant and friendly. The appetizers, well that's a meal in itself! Our favorites were the green beans, honey coriander chicken wings and salad with honey-lime dressing. Tiger Shrimp skewers were served as we finished up the appetizers. They were very good, loved the flavor and texture. Didn't eat many - too messy! They brought around the other meat but didn't bring new plates. They piled everything on top of the appetizer/shrimp scraps. I should have asked for a clean plate. After just a short time I had trouble distinguishing the meats. Didn't help that it was kind of dark in there. I gave up, but I was full anyway. DH said all the meat was great! We shared a piece of Pineapple and Carmel Sauce just so we wouldn't miss out. MMMMM!!! We would definitely eat at Ohana again. I'll just take it easy on the appetizers ... and request clean plates!

Sci-Fi Dine In
11/14/04 (Approx. 12:15PM)
Walked in w/o a PS. The hostess area was packed with people! I debated whether to stand in line thinking for sure we wouldn't be able to get a table in a decent amount of time. I was so excited when the hostess said she could seat us right away if we were willing to sit at a picnic table instead of a car. It took a long time for the server to show up. In fact, we had to ask someone where he was. 'Hafid' finally showed up but neglected to apologize for the wait. I ordered the Cheeseburger and a Vanilla shake. The burger was just a burger, but the milkshake was out of this world! It was deliciously thick - impossible to drink with a straw. DH ordered a small house salad - boring! I think this place is overpriced but realize it's all about the theming. Would eat there again, but only if there was no wait.

Yachtsman Steakhouse
11/14/04 (6:00 PS)
Arrived late, but were seated right away. I love the atmosphere! The carpeted floors make things warm and cozy. Our waitress, Susan was great! She was pleasant from start to finish. In other words, her attitude didn't tank when DH said the words SILVER Plan. She smiled a lot, made small talk and helped us feel comfortable. To start, I ordered the Baby Spinach Salad, DH had the Shrimp Cocktail. I loved the salad- way too big for an appetizer. DH liked the shrimp cocktail. It was the same as all the others he's had, except presented more beautifully. For the main course I had the 16oz. Ribeye with baked potato. DH the 24 oz. Porterhouse with baked potato. He ordered the meat plain, no seasoning and ate almost all of it. The Ribeye was good, despite being cooked well done instead of medium well. I loved the spices they used on it. Told DH he missed out! We ordered the dessert Sampler for Two. It included Crème Brulee, Pineapple Flavored Sorbet, Chocolate Mousse Cake and Macadamia Nut Pie. Don't know the actual name of the Sorbet but it tasted like pineapple. It was delicious! The other stuff was too sweet for me but it was certainly fun to try. DH was really full and didn't contribute much to the sampler. He tried pea-sized portions (if that.) Overall, we loved Yachtsman and would dine there again. But only on a Dream Maker Plan. LOL!

Kona Cafe
11/15/04 (Approx. 1:30 PM)
Decided to head over to Kona on a whim after a morning of golf. It wasn't too crowded, but there was a steady stream of customers. Soon as we sat down I realized why the word Cafe is in the name. We were seated near the cash register and I felt like we were sitting in the middle of the floor. I expected to see more choices on the menu ... guess we should have gone for breakfast. The server was (Pennie) pleasant and attentive. I ordered the Big Kahuna Burger because it was the only thing that sounded good. DH decided to go light and had the Caesar Salad. The salad was topped with a few grates of fresh Parmesan cheese. DH raved over it! The Big Kahuna Burger was ... BIG! It was a pretty decent burger and the fries were nice and hot. I would like to try Kona again for Breakfast. There just weren't enough offerings for lunch.

Portobello Yacht Club
11/15/04 (6:30 PS)
We were a few minutes late, but they were very understanding. The server, Laila was the best! All our thank yous were returned with a "My Pleasure." The high level of service she provided added to the magic. Thanks, Laila! The atmosphere was a little loud but the view overlooking DD made up for it.
If you like garlic you would love the Roasted Garlic they brought out for the bread. Yum! For appetizers I ordered the Sliced Portobello Mushroom, DH had the ... you guessed it ... Shrimp Cocktail. The mushroom was good until it turned cold. Then it was gross! Glad I tried it, but wouldn't get it again. Of course DH loved the shrimp. They were HUGE and grilled to a slight crisp- different. For the main course we both ordered the Beef Tenderloin Medallion and added a Lobster Tail. (Confused as to why we could add the tail at Portobello but not at Narcoosee's.) The medallion was oh so tender and served with roasted asparagus, squash, red potatoes and onions. The lobster was perfectly cooked and even a little sweet. The Iced Tea was the best I'd had on property. For dessert I tried the Paradiso al Cioccolato (chocolate cake with caramel sauce.) It was so good I hated not being able to finish it. DH had the Frutta Fresca della Stagione (fresh fruit w/ cream.) This was a delicious meal!

Boma
11/16/04 (5:00 PS)
Arrived a few minutes before they opened. The waiting area was already full. They gave us a pager thingy and alerted us right at 5:00. Forgetting about AKL's straw policy, I foolishly ordered an iced tea ... with lots of ice. That was my first problem at Boma. Second problem was I attacked the buffet without strategy. Should have considered the different ingredients on my plate. After a few bites of everything my stomach was on fire! Couldn't figure out which dish caused it because I had so many different things. After the stomach settled down I was afraid to try the rest of the African dishes. Decided to stick with what I know - penne pasta, meatballs, chicken fingers, Mac/cheese. DH didn't want his stomach upset so he ditched the dinner for dessert. I suggested we try a Zebra Dome given all the hype I've read on these boards. Guess I didn't comprehend what I read and got a big surprise biting into it. It was soft in the middle and I didn't like that at all! DH saw the look on my face and decided skip it. Needless to say, Boma wasn't a favorite for us and we would not eat there again. Nothing against Boma, though. We just didn't care for all the flavor. The CM's were pleasant, even those standing behind the buffet counters were friendly. I'm still glad we tried it- now we know.

Fulton's Crab House
11/17/04 (6:20 PS)
Arrived about 45 minutes early and they were able to seat us right away. Fulton's is another loud restaurant. The server (Lois) was nice and took the time to explain what we could mix/match with the Silver Plan BEFORE we tried to order it. I started with the Alaskan King Crab/Shrimp for an appetizer. I thought it a nice touch that it was served over a bed of ice. The shrimp was peel and eat but not too messy. The crab was REALLY GOOD! DH ordered the Shrimp Cocktail, of course. He was happy when they served him 5 instead of 4 like the other places. I ordered the Filet, which was supposed to come with grilled shrimp but I was able to substitute that with King Crab Claws. The filet was flavorful and tender and the crab claws were sweet and meaty. DH ordered a filet and substituted a lobster tail for the shrimp. He said it was one of the best lobster tails he's had. For dessert we ordered the Cheesecake minus the blueberry sauce. It was a very scrumptious meal! Fulton's serves excellent seafood, IMO.

Columbia Harbor House
11/18/04 (Approx. 11:30AM)
This meal was included with the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. What a hidden treasure! I can't wait to eat there again. The place is huge, even has an upstairs. I ordered the chicken strips basket w/ fries. The strips were tender and juicy, the fries were hot. DH had the Chicken Salad sandwich and while I enjoyed the strips, I wished I had gotten the Chicken Salad. It was delicious!!! They make it fresh every day. MMMMM!

1900 Park Fare
11/18/04 (8:00 PS)
They had just opened and boy were the CM's in a good mood! I was one of the first to the buffet tables. Realized too late I was serving myself from the kids buffet. (Kept wondering why the eggs had cheese in them.) I selected a little of everything but was mainly focused on the bacon. Man, that bacon was good - big, crisp strips. Yummy! DH was excited to see the Omlette Guy and made his way there first. Pooh and Tigger arrived at about 8:15 and I was just as excited as the kids at the next table. They made their way to each table and I got a picture with both. Shortly thereafter, Alice showed up. She was great with the kids AND the adults. Got a picture with her, too. As we finished up the meal the Mad Hatter started making his rounds. Didn't want to wait for him to make it to our table, so we left w/o a picture. Mary Poppins was posing for photographs in the waiting area but we decided to take a picture with the Mary Poppins shrub near the restaurant instead. The food was really good for buffet style. The character interaction was very organized, which made for a pleasant experience. We would definitely eat there again.

With the exception of Fulton's, these restaurants were a first for us. I included Bill Totals as an FYI for those dining with the Dream Maker Plan or Visa Rewards.

WOW! You ate WELL!

I really enjoyed reading your restaurant reports. THANKS!

BTW -- Don't feel bad, I didn't care for the zebra domes either! :earboy2:

I love that you include the amounts, I find that ever so helpful.

We are going on the Gold Plan and the Yachtsman Steakhouse sounds perfect (My DH is a big meat (and will want it plain) & potato guy), from your description, he will absolutely love the meal there.

Thank you for the detailed restaurant reviews. You gave us choices to think about for our upcoming trip. :earboy2:

Thanks for the detailed reviews. I'm glad that you liked Portobello's so much, it is our favorite place to eat at DD.

Thanks for the great detailed info! We are looking for new places to eat on our upcoming trip and this was great! I keep hearing raves about Boma, but I'm not so sure how I will like the spicy food. Now I won't feel like I'm missing something.

I really enjoyed reading your reviews, especially of the Yachtsman Steakhouse as we have 'almost' made it there so many times! We always start in Crew's Cup Lounge, get settled and can't be bothered to leave!

I agree with you on Kona Cafe - we have eaten there twice for lunch (I always like to give places a second chance). It's the ideal spot for a lunchtime break from MK, but the offerings are disappointing,

The check-in area of the Sci-Fi Dine-in is always crowded. We stuck it out recently because it's a while since we last ate there, but we didn't enjoy it as much as we did the first time. Worth doing once would be my assessment.

We have eaten many times at Boma for breakfast (in fact it has become a first morning tradition), but only once for dinner. Maybe you should give breakfast a try another time - AKL is a fabulous setting.

I don't really get Fulton's Crab House, but we've only tried it once so, by my own admission, maybe it's time to give it another try!

Narcoossee's has been on the 'to do' list for many a trip. Ditto 'Ohana. So many restaurants, so little time...

We feel the same way about Boma for dinner. The spices are a bit too much. But Breakfast is a different story!! Woowseee, It's GREAT!!! Really fresh and delicious breakfast dishes. There are only one or two "African" breakfast dishes that I didn't care for, the rest was OUTSTANDING!!

Carol

Thanks for taking the time to post your reviews.

Now I have to add 2 new restaurants to where I want to eat on our next trip - Yachtsman Steakhouse and Portobello Yacht Club! :)

Oh darn it, we have PSs for Narcoosees and Kona Cafe and they sound less than thrilling, might have to re-think this for the 1000th time. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing the detailed reviews. I am sorry to hear of your experience at Narcosses'. It sounds like you got a real lemon for a wait person. :sad2:

We enjoyed Ohana too. My husband did not care for Boma either. I loved the Zebra Domes. Thanks for posting. I loved reading your reviews.

Thanks for your great dining reviews. I love dining at Disney - always something new to try. We stumbled onto Columbia Harbor House by accident - not planned, but we were there and the park was so crowded we decided to just stop and eat there. I was very impressed. I split the Caesar Chicken Salad with my daughter and we had apple pie for dessert ( we used Q&C vouchers and it was a deal !! ). The Salad we had was absolutely terrific!! Nice treasure to find - and like you said, plenty of room. We sat upstairs and there was 11 of us - very roomy. Loved it and nice break in the middle of the day.

Great reviews - thank you. I'm so surprised by Narcoosees, although I agree it is loud. We've eaten there twice and both times had top notch food and service. It scares me a bit, because I'm starting to think that things are starting to slip a bit at Disney as far as quality and service. Then again, I hope it was an isolated incident. A couple of years ago we were so excited to be trying Citricos - heard nothing but positive things about it. We had an AWFUL experience. My steak and my husband's lamb were overcooked not once, but thrice! Horrible - and the potatoes just weren't tasty at all. We were so disappointed. I hate it when that happens.

Now you've got me wanting to try Portobello Yacht Club, we've never eaten there. Next time...

Thankfully, we experienced good quality and service at all the other restaurants. At first I was disappointed because I switched PS from Cali Grille to Narcoosee's and I thought SHOOT, should have stuck with Cali. But then I've read a few bad reviews in recent days about them also. It's hard to tell what you will get.
Portobello was wonderful. You should add it to next trip's itinerary if possible. Will you be going soon?
