If I'm in a park that seems overly crowded what is the best way to get an accurate estimate of crowds in one of the other parks. I would like a current indication of how crowded, not one of the "historical crowd calanders".
Use the app to check wait times?
I have what seems like a good plan for the week but say we hit Epcot. and for some reason it's crazy busy I would consider hopping to another Park. With the time lost traveling to another Park, I don't want to just hop from one busy Park to another busy Park.

Excited to treat my 4yr old GD to her 1st Disney visit. We will be doing our first character meets ever. We have never been with a child, my kids were grow on our 1st trip. We are going to meet lots of princesses....

Thanks

We check the app for wait times. We never look at crowd calendars once we are at Disney.

In your case I would use the app to check wait times (having a good idea in mind of what is 'low' for some of the main rides/ attractions). I (personally) take with me notes from easywdw in terms of which parks are recommended and try to hop to a recommended park.

Unless you're taking a mid day break anyway, I'd be wary of switching because of crowds. Epcot may look low and then get a bunch of people because Mk has a party and Epcot is open later. The time lost to transfer parks is more time for crowds to build. If you're hopping anyway or leaving for a break then I could see using the apps to figure it out

we are going in 9 days! our dd 4 and our dd 1 are so excited!! a good tip as far as crowds go is to avoid the one with the extra magic hours. if magic kingdom is having a halloween party, that park is likely to be less crowded during the day since the park closes at 7pm. i wouldn't switch b/c there will be crowds everywhere. going to the park at opening will be the least crowded, or near closing, but mid day is most crowded everywhere so use your FP+ during mid day times, plan to see the parade, do the big shows or attractions that seat a huge amount of people, eat during that time, or go to the resort pool. october we have been at this time a handful of times and we never had bad crowds. i have gotten a few pictures that look like i'm the only one in the park. it is a great time to go. have a blast!
