Hi! Im Amy. Im leaving in 59 days to WDW with my mom and My 2 kids. My Daughter is 5 and my son is 3. My Husband is joining us for 4 days mid trip but not staying long. Can anyone recommend anything fun and different for the kids? Were doing 2 ( Akerhaus and Cape May ) Character meals already. I heard about a passport kinda thing at epcot? Also If anyone has Little ones they've gone with how Is bedtime? This worries me the most. My daughter has slept with me before on a trip and did fine but my Son isn't all about it. I tried a sleep over with them and he cried and didn't want anything to do with it. They both are " we like our space " kinda people. I did buy a travel sound machine to. just in case!:ccat:

Hi Amy! Hope you and the family have a magical time! Here are my suggestions. :-)

* the pirate cruise with fireworks .. Good for kids... And Fun!

* the watermice (two seater boats) at poly.. Bet your 5 year old would like them! Inexpensive too!

* my kids LOVED the poolside games!!

* the dance parties they do in front of space mountain! They couldn't get enough!!

* if you have it in your budget... We went to see la nouba! Was great and kept there attention the whole time!!

* must play in the water in new fantasy land!!! And Epcot has a couple water fountain spray stations!! Bring extra clothes!

* if they are allowed soda... Don't miss the free soda at Epcot. Soda from around the world!!

* luau was awesome!

* 50's diner is a lot of fun!!! Ask for waitstaff that will give you the full experience!!

* talkin with crush at Epcot is of course a must

That's a good bit! If I remember more I will send you another message :-).

I took my son who was 4 at the time to Pirate's League. They made him up as Jake The Neverland Pirate - he got to choose what package he wanted along with a tshirt I was disappointed they didn't have his size (a 4) so I had to get the generic pirate leagues tshirt. Other than the tshirt not being in stock at the time, it was nice experience; my son had fun. After the makeover he did a little pirate photo shoot, if you have the photo-pass (I think they renamed it) you get the photos on your card...or band now. Disney has changed since I went in August.

For your daughter, you may want to do the BBBoutique, I hear there are different packages. I think the most common one is the crown package, they get hair, nails and make up done and go home with extras I believe for 60-65 bucks. I plan on doing that for my DD when we go in October for her 5th BDay.

I also recommend breakfast at Chef Mickey, it is such a cool character buffet place. It's always our goodbye breakfast before we leave and we're never disappointed. We also did the Mickey's Backyard BBQ it's an all you can eat BBQ party with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale. They dance with the kids and you can get your pictures taken with them as well. We also did pony rides before the BBQ party started at Campground it was 5 bucks for each child.

Oh don't forget to do Story time with Belle and Arielle's Under the Sea ride...both are great! Your daughter will love both!

I hope you guys have a magical time!!

Thanks girls, those are great suggestions! My son is little for his age so wont be able to ride most of the rides but will LOVE the water areas. Plus my mom is older and wont go on a lot so she can stay with him. My Daughter is VERY much into the whole princess thing so im sure she'd love the BBB. I don't know If my son would do the pirate one but we'll see. Im going to take him to get a hair cut at WDW while were there.

We went when my son was 4 and my daughter was just over 1. Then again my son was 5 and my daughter 2.5. It was absolutely great. We also stayed for 10 days and are happy we did! 10 days gave us plenty of time for "meltdown" as my DW and I call it. If they get tired we went back to the room/pool/arcade. We didn't push them everyday but did when we needed to. Also, don't be afraid to just relax!! Having fun is the most important thing.
As for bedtime. We kept the bedtimes almost the same when we could and worked in naps during the day if we knew it was a late fireworks night. I didn't see if you said where you were staying but we stayed at CBR and POR. Both had enough room for a roll in bed or pack and play. They also had a curtain separating the room from sink area. We put the pack and play behind the curtain for my daughter. Don't forget that they will be exhausted most days too!
One thing my kids really enjoyed ( and the adults did too because it was a good time for a glass of wine or margarita) was the movie at the hotel. We would go to the room and put pj's on then head to the movie. Both DS and DD looked forward to it every night and it was a good routine for bedtime.

HAVE FUN!

Our first trip with both our kids, our DD was 2 1/2 (almost 3) and son was 4 1/2 (just shy of 5) and we also stayed 10 nights. It was great to have a longer trip so we could take it slow and go at their pace!

We took along our own double stroller (a nice tandem one that they could both nap in, and we drove so had tons of stuff in our van). They napped in it every afternoon that we were out, so we would just find a nice quiet place and have a beer or soda and relax. Bedtime was good, since honestly we were all pretty tired and just rested when they went to sleep. I hope that you can work out the sleeping arrangements! What worked out for us was first we tried to have DD sleep in the pack & play in the room (we were in a one bedroom Boardwalk villa) since she was really small for her age. Then we found it was better to have her share the big bed with me and DH and DS took the sofa sleeper (most nights).

We did some relaxing things - yes the Epcot kidcot thing was fun - they enjoyed making masks and meeting the cast members in the countries (don't know if they still do those, but if they do it's a nice fun thing to do). My kids really enjoyed Innoventions at Epcot a lot too! They still do. There is one area where they learn fire safety, and kids like that. It's good for even the little kids!

We never did any late dinners, dinner shows, or La Nouba - my kids were ready for sleep by 7 (DD) and 8 (DS) so it would not work. We kept a fairly normal schedule so they wouldn't get too tired and cranky.

At the Animal Kingdom, we could spend a whole day exploring the animals! Rafiki's Planet Watch is nice. They loved the acrobats there too - don't know when they perform, but all the kids seem to just be mesmerized by them.

I always use a sound machine too - and especially when we travel. Also, we brought along their "blankies" and I think early in the trip let each pick out a stuffed animal to cuddle. That helps!

I always kept simple snacks handy like Teddy Grahams and juice in my day bag (son has allergies, so I always had snacks with me anyway). Kids sometimes just want a snack not a huge meal! Also I kept a large ziploc bag with a change of clothes for each of them (including socks) in my backpack just in case. Spills happen.

We didn't do water parks when they were little, since the pools at the Disney resorts were really so much fun for them that it wouldn't be worth the hassle to watch over them at a water park. If I were staying somewhere off site that didn't have a pool I guess I'd go with little ones, but otherwise we waited till they were much older.

Many resorts have playgrounds too! One trip we were staying at the Contemporary, and right outside our room (we were on the first floor with a sliding door to the patio) was a playground. Perfect!

There is so much to do at Disney - we haven't done it all in all our trips. I would suggest taking it slow at their pace, and don't rush from one thing to another. Sometimes we'll be at Epcot just hanging out and a little band of those guys with trash cans will set up and play drums! Those who have been - you know the guys I'm talking about! If we were in a hurry, we'd miss it. Or "Push" the talking trash can. You never know what you'll see while taking an ice cream (or beer) break.

All the countries in Epcot have interesting things for kids to explore. From their first visit, Epcot has been my kids' favorite park. Okay, we're kind of geeks!

I hope I've helped, but know I've rambled. I just am excited for you, since our first trip was so much FUN!

I agree, 10 is the best! Weve done 5, 7, and a couple 10's. I would never be able to do less then that. Im even thinking I should have done more...lol. Maybe the next trip! Its hard to want to take it easy when you don't get to go to WDW often. But I need to keep reminding myself that. Neither of my kids nap anymore, although they should! DD is 5 1/2 and DS is a very small 3 1/2. We are actually doing 2 nights at AK, 4 nights at Art of Animation ( cars suite ), and 4 nights at PO. I think the only "late" nights were doing is seeing the fireworks at the 3 parks. Fantasmic, Epcot, and MK's hours of lights and parades. Which Im thinking we may break up in a few nights so they don't get to antsy and tired waiting. Im looking forward to the Movies, and smores nights and trips to the pools and relaxing with a adult beverage! lol So they gave you a roll away bed at PO? I know we asked for bedrails but since the room has 2 doubles I didn't think they could give you another bed?

I hear from everyone that bedtimes are not as bad as you'd think cause everyone's so exhausted. I hope this is true! We actually live by and go to Disneyland all the time. But when we go it's for 6 hours at the most. Plus they've never been at night time. They also have a pretty strict bedtime so when it starts getting dark they almost freak out...haha. " Oh no Its getting dark I need to go to bed". It's hard to break them of that sometimes. Epcot is my fav and Im really hoping the kids will like it there! My kids are picky with their snacks so Ive been buying some little by little to take with us. They also have a stuffed dog they carry with them. It's really DD that wont leave his sight ( she named him Nana from the peter pan ) but DS likes to copy her.. The Nana's will be coming with us.

My kids were 6 and 4 on our first trip. They loved Tom Sawyer Island!
We used things like that for downtime and didn't leave the parks.

Harmony Barbershop in MK is fun for a quick fancy hairdo with 'pixie dust' (inexpensive too).

We favor longer trips too. We make sure we get our sleep at night. I don't wake anyone up. On our last trip, there were some nights where all of us slept for 10 hours. When we do that, we feel like we could stay forever. It keeps the crankies at bay.

I would love to break up our next trip like that too! We aren't going at all this year but just booked our disney cruise for march 2015. CANT WAIT. We didn't have a roll away bed at POR because the kids slept in the same bad with bed rails. I agree that we need to force ourselves to work in some down time but that has been some of the most memorable times too. I have great pics of then laying on towels ( they were redoing the movie area) watching their favorite disney movies. We also did the sea racers at POR and they both still talk about it. The first trip we booked mostly character breakfasts but this time we did more dinners. It seemed to work so much better for us. We were all ready for a nice air conditioned break. One of our favorite places was Akershus hall. Great food, great cast members, and the characters really took their time at the table.

Pressed Pennies

For sleeping, where are you staying?
We brought a twin sized air mattress for DS, and put it in the vanity area at POFQ, so there was the added bonus of a curtain that could be closed. Bedtime and nap time both went completely normally the whole time.
Most every room on the property has space where an air mattress could fit with a little maneuvering, but I'm sure there are some that don't.
They also have smaller ones, but we went with the twin size in case DS had trouble and an adult sized person needed to sleep there.

Were staying at AK lodge ( savanna view with bunk beds ) for 2 nights, Art of Animation for 4 nights ( Cars suite, my husbands joining us for 4 days ), and PO for 4 days. That one kinda worries me. I plan on sleeping with my mom in the double and having the kids seep together. BUT they hate sleeping with each other so I don't know how Ill force them...LOL
