Mathmatically, it seems like a very good idea to buy the 10 no expiration plus tickets and space them over a couple of trips. Better than an annual pass since you aren't in a 12 month cycle. Of course we would have to plan on a lot of water park time but that is no big deal. Any potential down side to this plan?

We did the 10 day PH with WP no expiration in Jan. '08. We loved it and would do it again. We have gone 2x with the tickets and have enough for one more trip. Granted, we have little ones and don't do the park every day, but it will still give you more than one trip. Plus, we still have water park tickets that also don't expire, even when your regular park tickets have.

The disadvantage to the AP IMO is that you have to go a lot in one year to make it worth it. If you aren't going to make several trips during your AP year, it doesn't really do you much good. That's my take on it anyway.

Once you purchase the ticket make a copy of the back side where you sign it then put it in a safe and secure area (like a safe or safety deposit box) and make another copy to take on vacation with you.

This would eliminate the only downside of the 10 days plus passes- actually losing the pass!

If you have a copy of your ticket, WDW would be able to look up the number on the ticket to see what days you have left to use. They should be able to give you a new ticket and void the old one. (Can someone else confirm that?)

Yes. I lost my DD's 7 day ticket that had never been used. While I didn't have a copy of it, I did have MY ticket. Since mine, DH's & DD's were in consecutive order, the CM at Pop Century's front desk looked it up for me, found her unused ticket, and issued me a new one. :) He wasn't sure he'd be able to, but gave it a shot & it worked.

Of course, as soon as we got home, I found her old "lost" one. LOL

So definitely either make a copy of it, or write down the # on it. :) They WILL be able to replace it that way should you lose it.

That is what we do. We bought them in June 2004 and went several times using our last two days in DL last August. Somehow we got 13 days out of those 10 day tickets...don't ask me how but I know how many days we used and when I went to buy new ones in 2007 at the resort desk I had them scan the tickets just to make sure they were used up and the CM told me we had three more days on them. Anyhow we have used two of the 5 extra tickets at Disney Quest where we stayed for nearly the entire day and the kids loved it.

So before you toss your tickets thinking that they are empty, have someone check them at WDW. The CM said that maybe the entry scan machines were not working three of the days we went into the parks. We stay the entire day so once we go into a park we would have no idea there had been a problem. There was one day we started having problems getting FPs after a couple hours and a CM gave us a special FP to use for the rest of the day.

If you typically take shorter trips (5 days or less) and you don't take multiple trips in the same year then 10 day NE tickets are the best option for you. If your trips are typically 6 days or more, then expiring tickets for each trip will be slightly cheaper.
Of course we would have to plan on a lot of water park time but that is no big deal.
Remember that with a no expiration ticket your water park entries never expire either... you can keep using them until they are gone, even if you use all 10 park days. Depending on how often you go to the water parks, after you've used all 10 park days on this ticket you might be able to purchase another 10 day NE ticket for park entries without the water parks option and just keep using this ticket for water parks.
Any potential down side to this plan?
The only downside is that 10 day NE tickets are rather expensive, so it's a bit of an investment, but as long as you can afford to spend the money now it will definitely save you money in the end.

If you did this, you wouldn't be able to purchase the DDP after your first trip because you'd no longer be buying park tickets with your package, correct?

Since we all carry around lots of digital technology. In addition to making a photocopy of the ticket, you can take a digital photo of the ticket, as long as you can see the numbers on the back. This will allow you to have the ticket number on hand if the ticket is lost (assuming you haven't lost your phone or camera). I still make a photocopy for my house, but this way I am not carrying around a second piece of paper.

Also this trick is especially useful for parking at Disney. We photograph our row each time we park, this way no one has to remember and we can delete the photo each time we get back to the car. Can you tell I once walked the lot at Epcot for more than an hour (all those white rental cars look the same).

I buy the 10 day non expiration with plusses once and then every other trip buy the 10 day non expiration without. A 10 day pass lasts us about 1 1/2 trips as we go to the parks 6 or 7 days and then use the 3 or 4 days the next trip with 6 or 7 days of a new pass.

It's inevitable Disney will always raise ticket prices so as long as I don't have to charge them I buy as many as I can in advance.

We very rarely go to water parks (maybe once every trip), or Disney Quest (maybe once every other trip), or golfing (not that my bf doesn't try every trip ;) ) so those 10 plusses last us a LONG time. I would buy the plusses more often, as eventually we would use them (as long as we were still loving Disney or still alive :) ), but, honestly, I can barely keep up with how many plusses we have on one pass. I couldn't imagine having 2 or 3 passes with days used up and plusses on them trying to keep them straight (this, of course, would be a whole lot easier if there was a way to go online and check the passes). Some people don't find it a big deal but I can never keep it straight how many plusses I have left. I've tried keeping them in an envelope and writing the date I used what but it never fails I forget to write one down. I in fact did run out of plusses on a pass I thought had one left (didn't check at the resort or ticket counter ) and went to get into TL only to not have any left! (I did have some Disney magic that day as the CM let me in anyways as it was only open a couple more hours and my bf did have one left on his).

We've been buying the 10-day no expire passes with plus features for a while now. They usually last us 2-3 trips since we only go to the parks for 4 or 5 days per trip. We used to use the plus feature for Pleasure Island, but now that that's closed, we'll be using them for the water parks. I think the next time we buy tix, we'll forego the plus feature since we have a bunch still unused from the last tix we bought.

As long as they don't change the pricing on the plus options or parkhopping, if you want to save on up front costs you can no expiration MYW tix and just upgrade them to add the options after you use them to enter the park. If you don't have plans for water parks on your first visit you can wait until your last day to upgrade them. Just make sure you do it before 14 days after first use.
