We are buying tickets for our family who will be in the World this summer for 7 days.

Is there any rule about using the "extra days" on the 10 day ticket to use for park hopping? In other words, you would be burning two days of the 10 day ticket in one day to go to two different parks.

If we only plan to park hop 2 or 3 times, buying a 10 day basic ticket will be much cheaper than adding the park hopper option to a 7 day ticket.

Am I right on my thinking? Thanks!

Nope, you can't do it. The passes are set up that once you use it to get into one park, that's it for the day. Sure, you can return to that park, but you can't do MK in the morning, and then Epcot in the evening.
If you want to do more than one park a day, then you really should add the hopping function.

This is the most popular question on this board, I think.:)

Disney thought of this one too and the programming at the turnstile will reject the ticket at the second park.

If you think you want to go to more than one park in the same day, you have to buy a hopper pass. The poster above is correct - if you try to go to two different parks on the same day without a hopper, your pass will be rejected at the second park.

If I remember the pricing correctly, it costs about $5 per day to upgrade to a hopper. That does add up if you have a big family! But for me (a single adult traveling with other adults, no kids) I love the flexibility of having a hopper. We go during the F&W festival, and hop to Epcot every day during our trip.

The park hopper option costs a flat rate of $45 per ticket (child or adult) no matter how many days the ticket is good for.

Wow, I am so glad i asked this question here. I searched over the official Disney website and could never find this issue. I wonder how many people do this same thing and get turned away from their second park?

Thanks guys. Ya'll are the best resource!!!!!!!

Don't the base tickets still have "not valid for park hopping" printed on the back?

Also (if you just started using the ticket) you can add hopping right at the second park. Same (approx.) $45. per ticket card.

A base ticket is one major (theme) park per day. You are allowed to re-enter the same park if you leave it on one day, but it can only be used at the one park.

If you put the ticket in the turnstile of another park the display on the Guest side of the turnstile will be "ACCESS DENIED". The top line of the display on the Greeter side will give information about the ticket, and the second line of the display will say "CROSSOVER NOT PERMITTED". The turnstile will not unlock.

This is because Disney charges $2.00 per day over five days on an adult ticket, but charges $45 to allow hopping. It does not make economic sense for Disney to allow this.
