BAGHDAD -- The powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his militiamen on Sunday to redouble their battle to oust American forces and argued that Iraq's army and police should join him in defeating "your archenemy." The U.S. military announced the weekend deaths of 10 American soldiers, including six killed on Sunday.

No Easter break for the troops..Stop sending more, bring them home!

I've read that the Moslim religion accounts for 25% of the world population. I have no idea how many of those belong to the radical faction that is bent on killing the other 75% of the world, including women and children, but it seems to be a pretty significant amount. One way of looking at it is that there are "contracts" out on your families. These people do not want to negotiate and will settle for nothing less than the elimination of 75% of the world population, period!

I certainly do not want to see our troops in harms way, especially since my grandson is a Marine Corporal scheduled to deploy in a few months. However, our casualty rate is way lower than any other war we've been in except for Desert Storm. Little consolation, to be sure, but there is an enemy that needs to be stopped or we will all die.

Any suggestions?

The Iraqi's were not a threat when we invaded. Bush should put his tail between his legs and get out, stop the occupation that is fueling the terrorism in that country. Focus on where Bin Laden came from, Afghanistan, which is deteriorating rapidly, instead of building the largest embassy in the world in Baghdad. The message to the people over there is clear, we will never leave. Change the message.

I really have to wonder if we'd be in Iraq if SH had fully (he didn't) comply with the UN resolutions.

SO sad.. When will this end...Prayers to anyone with loved ones over there.

A question to show my ignorance - Does "cleric" mean the same thing in the Muslim religion that it does in other religions? The religion's leaders?

Really? He said he didn't have WMD's. He didn't. Are we in other countries who are in violation of UN mandates? hmmmmmmmm

Face it, this is a disaster. How many must die before this BS stops?

One death is confirmed from my husband's unit. I didn't know him but my thoughts & prayers are with his family during this very hard time. I just want them all home....

I am so sorry!

There are people who think those of us opposed to the war are opposed because we hate George Bush, or because we want to make trouble for Republicans, or because we hate America, or because we want to lose, or some other silly reason.

No, we oppose the war because we believe there is no military solution to the problems in Iraq and don't want to see any more troops die since they have accomplished everything they can.

:sad2: God bless these brave soldiers who sacrificed the ultimate.

As an Army Mom, this indeed hits close to home, my heart and prayers are with their families.

On the fourth anniversary of this war, I find myself angry. Angry with an administration that ignored warnings of sectarian hatred and has hurt America's credibility and reputation by failing to adequately plan for an occupation. Angry with an administration that continued to insist that things were going well in Iraq when it was very clear that the situation was deteriorating. Angry with 2004 voters who chose to bury their heads in the sand and not hold the administration accountable.

In 2003 I predicted that Iraq would dissolve into sectarian warfare if the USA invaded and removed the dictator. Same thing happened in Yugoslavia when Tito died. Sectarian hatred was Bush Sr.'s rationale for refusing to remove Saddam in 1991. If I---based simply on a college education, understanding of current events, and common sense---could predict the turmoil in Iraq, then why couldn't the administration with its hundreds of analysts, intelligence agencies, and embassises? It turns out that the State Department prepared a report warning of the liklihood of this crisis and the administration chose to ignore it.

I have zero confidence in Bush's ability to turn this crisis around.

If only they had listened to this guy:

Well, just as it’s important, I think, for a president to know when to commit U.S. forces to combat, it’s also important to know when not to commit U.S. forces to combat. I think for us to get American military personnel involved in a civil war inside Iraq would literally be a quagmire. Once we got to Baghdad, what would we do? Who would we put in power? What kind of government would we have? Would it be a Sunni government, a Shi’a government, a Kurdish government? Would it be secular, along the lines of the Ba’ath Party? Would be fundamentalist Islamic? I do not think the United States wants to have U.S. military forces accept casualties and accept the responsibility of trying to govern Iraq. I think it makes no sense at all

Dick Cheney, April 7, 1991.

someone brought this up yesterday-if we leave, and Iraq descends into more sectarian violence or God forbid, genocide-then what? Would there be a need for us to go back? Or will we just go and allow whatever happens to happen? I don't think anyone truly believes that once we leave everything will be wonderful over there. What responsibility do we have now that we've made this mess??

I don't think anybody believes it will be wonderful. If we leave, it will be a total hellhole. But if we stay, it will be a total hellhole. Just one without US troops getting killed everyday.

We had an obligation to try and help the country back on its feet. But that obligation isn't unlimited. At some point, we have to say "we've done all we can". I think we are past that point. If anyone disagrees, I'm curious when they think we will be past that point, or do we have a never ending obligation?
