10/23/11 - Disney Dream

Wow. That is wonderful.. our goal each year is to get more and More of our family to travel on the cruise.. And What is nice is you do not have to do anything together, There is so much to do each can do their own thing, Then meet back for dinner and share the days adventures...

And you got Married on a Disney cruise to boot.. Heck this is just about a perfect script for Disney movie..

enjoy..

Sadly, I didn't get married on the cruise, my friend did. My sister is currently planning her Disney wedding for Sept 2012 and I'm so jealous! My husband tells me maybe we can do a vow renewal at WDW ;)

Hi everyone, I'd like to ask a question without sounding really stupid. I know what a roll call is but what is the purpose for our cruise?:confused3 Is it to make a master list of everyone sailing on this thread? Ok, I may have just answered my own question.:lmao:We never did this on the Wonder last year only the FE list so I'm just a little confused and curious...still a cruise newbie I guess. TIA.:goodvibes

Every cruise is different. Since this is strictly a volunteer service, any one who decides to head up the charge is the one that decides how it will be done. Since no two people are the same each cruise will be different.

Just roll with the waves (pun intended)... :cool1:

So How is everyone getting to the Port..

We Will be driving form Indianapolis.. Get in Orlando Sat Morning early and do Universal.. (Hey I am not proud of this, I wanted to do one of the Disney parks but seems like everyone is Harry Potter Crazy).. Stay in Orlando the night, Then we be going to the Port Sunday Morning early.

Hopefully any of you flying are not doing one of those arrive Sunday at 2 get to the port by 4 :scared1: Like I have read a few folks doing on the main board

My experience with roll calls has been on another forum, Cruise Critic, it is similar to the DIS, but all about cruising, while cruising is a subset of the DIS. This is our first Disney cruise, but not our first cruise, we have cruised 28times before on various other cruise lines. But the Disney section of Cruise Critic is very quiet, I suspect they are all over here on the DIS.

Here on the DIS one role of the roll call is to organizer the Fish Extenders. We have never encountered anything like this on another cruise line.

Other purposes of the roll call is to exchange information, about getting to the embarkation port and about ports of call. A source of informtion for those newer to cruising to gain information from those on the same cruise who have more experience. We only have two stops so there is too much to discuss about ports. But other more port intensive cruises would ahve more discussion of port activities and possibly people organizing their own private excursions not booked through the cruise line.

Also many times a meet and greet type of function is planned so that you can place a face to a screen name.

And also to share our excitement with each other as the cruise draws near.

Each roll call is a little different. I have been on some roll calls that have been pretty slow and met a few people on embarkation day at our meet and greet then not seen them agin for the rest of the cruise. On the other hand the first roll call I ever participated in for a cruise back in 2003 is still going. There are some of us that chat online pretty much everyday and have cruised together again and have been long distance friends through various life trials. There are two another roll calls that we participated in for cruises in 2006 very similar situation, we are still friends with people from all over the country. We try to cruise together once a year, we also try to get together on land for long weekends.

This is my first DIS roll call seems to be about the same over here.

Tomorrow at 9pm on the west coast is the opening for those of us that have a 90 day window for booking. Whoo hoo!

We always drove from Massachusetts in the past. It was nice to stop along the way and visit different states. But...this time we will fly. First time in 16 years.:scared1:We plan on staying at the World for 5 days prior, taking in MNSSHP along the way, then a limo will pick us up at the resort and take us to the port. This is all so new to me.:lmao:

Very well said Beth. We have friends we still keep in touch with from a 2007 Disney cruise. Hoping to make new DIS friends on this cruise. :teeth:

Woohoo :woohoo: Let the booking begin.

3 months from today we will be getting on board the DREAM!

We're flying in on Saturday night and staying at the Hyatt at the Orlando Airport. Since I'm paying for a babysitter, we chose to take a late-ish flight out of NY. We'll take the Disney shuttle to the cruise on Sunday morning. On the return side we're renting a car and spending a few hours at a park (probably Epcot but it hasn't been decided yet). We have APs so we don't have to pay park admission. We have an evening flight home.

We're pretty new to cruising in general and completely new to DCL. About 13 years ago we took a Celebrity Cruise from NYC to Bermuda and back. We did no research then and it was too long ago to remember much other than having fun. We're experience Disney park-goers though... :thumbsup2

So it must be past cruisers that can enter their online info at 90 days? My reservation says I can't until August 9th. That's different every other cruise line I've been on I can fill all that out as soon as I book.

A Bermuda cruise would be nice, ever so often I will come across old cruise ship Pamplets promoting trips to Bermuda from NYC... Always seems a neat cruise..

Amen to that.. I think some of the 3 & 4 day cruises tend to be less intense on the roll call then 7 days cruises...

But I swear to you what I am going to say is true.. Last years 7 days cruise the roll call and DIS site was a killer.. On a slow day there were be 5 to 6 pages added.. Some days 15+ pages.. It was so busy it was hard to even keep up.. They would have to close a thread and open a new one because they got to big.. One time I was away for the week and was so far behind I had to just give up.. It made "Gone with the wind" and "War & Peace" seem like light bathroom reading..
