10-21-12 Dream!!!

Ugh! I just saw your post on another thread. Now I'm trying to think of who I know in Florida, that I'd like to cruise with. :)

if you get a one bedroom, you don't even have to like them that much - you'll each have your own bathroom and your own tv...and your own room as you can sleep in the living room....
so you barely even have to talk to each other....and you could use the verandah in front of the living room and the other person could use the verandah space that's in front of the dining area....

really....you wouldn't even have to breathe the same air... :rolleyes1

as for my other post - kind of provocative i suppose - i'm going to get slammed for writing that...

but it's what i feel - the difference in what i paid and what they're going to pay is beyond extreme and it will indeed be very very very very very difficult for me to not focus on that....

so i'm just never going to put myself in that position again...

they've lost me forever....

what do the berenstain bears say? once trust is lost it can't be gotten back again....

Don't even give those dis boards slammers a thought! Some people come to this board for the sole purpose of criticizing others. I totally understand your frustration! A big part of the enjoyment of a trip, for me, is feeling like I've gotten a good deal. (I won't even mention this price drop to my husband or mother!)

i won't mention it to my mom either.

i just hope the people who get the great deal for concierge don't talk about it too much - though i totally understand people talking about how happy they are to have gotten such a great deal..

but i really hope my mom doesn't hear them... and god forbid she hears how much they paid....it will kill her....

ok people, i'm expecting all of you to upgrade to concierge at the port....
i want our roll call to fill concierge not the florida residents (or i'll go insane)...

they just released the florida resident rates for our cruise and, well, those people are going to be sailing for free....so for sure they're going to go for those upgrades at the port...

the cost of a cat 5A is $85/person/night

so the total cost of a cat 5A for two people on our cruise is $680.
That's the total cost. Not per person.
for florida residents that is.

Total cost in cat 5A is $680 for florida residents on our cruise.

from cat 5A the upgrade to concierge is a few hundred dollars.
if you were paying only $680, wouldn't you upgrade to concierge?

so all of you who are getting to the port early - get yourselves over to the upgrade desk and go for concierge before the florida residents!!!!

i'll really lose my mind if i know there is someone in a one bedroom who only paid a total of only $1500 to be there. i will go insane. insane i tell you. insane. You have to save my sanity and upgrade!!!! ;)

and think how easy FE will be if we're all in concierge together!!!! :)

if it makes you feel better we go in and check in with Concierge because Im platinum :cool1: so we'll be one of the 1st ones on the ship

i'm not participating in FE - i figured it would be too difficult for everyone to get gifts to us in concierge.

Its easy. the FE's can be giving to a cabin steward and asked to be put in your thing or also can say we have something for that cabin and to see if they will let us in. Ugh i hate that its gated off thats so stupid.

someone told me you can slip your hand through and open it from the other side, but i don't know if that's true..

but anyway, you're all upgrading at the port so it's not going to be an issue... ;)

I have also heard that the gate is likely to disappear before long. Serves no real purpose and poses a danger in case of emergency. It was not installed on the Disney Fantasy.

Interesting note.....I just caught up with an ex-roommate of mine on Face Book.......guess where he is working! Guest Services on the Disney Dream. Have not seen him in nearly 10 years so it will be nice to say hi and hopefully catch up a bit while on board. ..........cue it's a small world music

i guess there goes my ill try and see if thats true while im on the fantasy in 2 weeks but since the gates arent on it i guess i cant test it out haha.

Now that we are getting close to the 6 weeks to sailing point, many of yu are going to begin to think about packing. Here are some helpful hints that have been passed to me on past cruises. (Thanks Deb T.)

Some things you do and don't need:

Yes:
*Highlighters (one color per person) to highlight activities listed in the Navigator that you want to do each day.
*Sunscreen and sunglasses
*Glow Sticks (you can find them at Dollar Stores). They make perfect night lights in the bathroom! Oddly enough, the plugs in the bathrooms only power a shaver and the DCL hair dryer.
*Hair dryer if you have thick hair. The hair dryer in the cabin is pitiful. You will need to use the electrical outlet at the desk.
*Cash if you want to purchase stamps on Castaway Cay.
*Foam Ear Plugs (available at home improvement stores) if you are a light sleeper. When all is quiet at night, you can hear creaking in the cabin. It's perfectly normal as the ship moves.
*Wrist watches! (Preferably waterproof.) There are very few clocks onboard.
*A beach bag/tote for Castaway Cay.
*Disposable cameras for the kids! It's fun to see things from their perspective, especially when they're in the Kids' Clubs without you.
*Bonine (non-drowsy, non-prescription) or Transderm Scop (prescription) anti-nausea meds if you are prone to sea sickness. Start the meds the day before the cruise starts so it's in your system by sail-away.
*Autograph Books

No:
-Pool/Beach towels. There are plenty available all over the ship and CC.
-Duct Tape. I don't know why DIS'ers always say to bring this. I'm sure you could easily get tape from Guest Services if the need arises.
-Fancy Tip Envelopes. You will receive DCL tip envelopes on the 3rd night.

great list Christopher!!

one comment, if you've never used bonine, you might want to try it on dry land in advance..

while it is claimed to be non-drowsy, there are many people who become very drowsy from it.

it hits everyone in my family that way - we found out the hard way - on the cruise when we became near zombies until we stopped taking it.

so it might be useful to try it out in advance.

DD used sea bands on her cruise this summer - on a ship that was really rocking and rolling. She said 5 minutes after she put them on, she was fine.
And she suffers from very serious motion sickness even on land.
and they even worked on the small boats she was on for her whale watch excursions. impressive!

they also say ginger pills helps with seasickness and nauseasness thats why they give it to pregnant women when they feel nauseas.

I really like the idea of sea bands - since, at least from this example, you don't have to use them until you feel sick. I'm apprehensive about giving my kids Bonine, if they don't really need it. Even if we do a dry run at home, it might affect them differently the second time they take it, I think. What to do? What to do?

Hey... Don't hate the FL residents! Not all of us are icky!! Think of us - we are FL residents and we booked last February at full fare. So we are really getting screwed! But it is worth it for us to know that we are guaranteed the sailing that we want. That's just the way the cookie crumbles!

You should totally call and see if they'll cut you a deal!! I swear I read that they are applying the Florida rates to previously booked reservations!

I have to say that I am fortunate that I have only experienced sea-sickness one time in my 20 times cruising and that was will cruising around Hurricane Rick in the Pacific in 2009. And funny enough it was because I used ear plugs to block the sound of my cabin mate who was snoring. I think that the silence blocked the sound of the water movement to the point that my inner ear could not compensate for all the movement without the accompanying noise to temper it. So that was the one and only time I have worn earplugs on a ship......so beware of that item as well, I guess.

You should definitely call and see if they'll apply the discount! I swear I read somewhere that they had!!

DD was really worried about her Alaska cruise because she'd heard how rough the gulf of Alaska is.
She already knew she couldn't handle Bonine (from our last cruise) so she took with her every home remedy she'd ever heard of - including ginger
On the ship it was really really rough and she got seasick right away.
So she went into the ship store and bought seabands
Five minutes after she put them on she felt better
Her husband didn't want to spend the sixteen dollars (after spending how much on the cruise?????)
So he didn't buy them
On the fourth day it was so rough that you had to hold the walls to walk around the ship
He was really really seasick by this point and finally broke down and bought the seabands.
And again five minutes after putting them on he started to feel better
I have no idea how that works.
Sounds like magic to me.
I've never used them but I'm going to bring them with me for our cruise

By the way she was on RCCL in Alaska

i did the Hawaii cruise in April-May and it was soooooo rough the 4 days going over and 4 days going back to Cali. Ive heard alaska is like that. it didnt bother me but by the last day going back to cali i had enough of it and actually got a little nauseas but the funny thing the waves werent even that high they were about 5-8 ft. ive been on cruises when the waves have been 15-20 ft high. but this was due to the winds. it was super windy. this will be my 34th cruise and have never got seasick.. I love cruising.
