DW offered to make mashed potatoes for our daughter''s daycare. Friday they will be having their Thanksgiving meal. So, when she asked how much to make, they said "10 - 15 pounds ought to be enough".

How many kids do you think that will be feeding? All kids are 6 or under.

Since most kids love mashed potatoes I say that would be right. I make 5 lbs just my family alone (5 of us) we love our potatoes!

Not sure how many kids, but there will probably be adults there too. 10 pounds is barely enough for our turkey dinner at SIL's house, she always runs out.

I would guess that would be enough for about 30 - 40 kids, depending on how much other food they're serving.

Sounds just enough for my family of 5. So I imagine it will be enough for a preschool.

That is a serious amount of potatoes. Does your wife wish she'd offered a different side dish? Wow, we have 12 for Thanksgiving and make a 10lb bag but have enough for seconds. Also, 2 of my three have never liked mashed potatoes, plain or with gravy. I'd say for kids under age 6, you must be talking 30 or so but how many staff are there?

10-15 lbs. :earseek:

I served 5 lbs at Thanksgiving for 12 and still had left overs.

Wow! That sounds like a lot of mashed potatoes! I've only made homemade mashed potatoes once, and they were not a big hit! Lots of lumps. I'd be running to the grocery store and buying lots of those OreIda mashed potatoes in the freezer section. I bet that would cost quite a bit!

figure 1 lb raw potato turns into about 2 cups mashed,, so i would say that should feed about 35 or so,, maybe 40

Wow thats a lot of potatoes!!! I would think there would be a lot of leftovers, especially since they are for the 6 and under set....

Hey PD do you like mashed potatos? I am thinking you might be getting them in every left over form imaginable. OR is she making that many because she thinks you might dip into them before they go to the school? :rotfl:

I will make 10 lbs of potatoes for Thanksgiving for the 5 in our family and my Dad and Stepmom. We love mashed potatoes and I like having leftovers. If my DS10 were in that preschool class I wouldn't be sure that 15 lbs would be enough. He loves mashed potatoes and even as a baby could pack away a lot of potatoes.
