1 or 2 rooms for 5 people?

I'm thinking of taking a summer trip with my 2 kids and parents using the FT package. We've taken trips together and have always shared 1 room, no problem. Of course, we'd need to stay deluxe to fit 5, or else I could book 2 rooms either value or moderate. What would you choose and why? Thanks!

If I'm reading your post correctly, you are vacationing with your children and your parents. If this is correct, I would get 2 rooms. I love my parents to death but I can't imagine sharing a room with them on vacation. It would NOT be a very happy time and the price of two ALLStar rooms would be well worth it. Besides,then you get two bathrooms,twice as much storage and the ALLStars are just great!

Please 2 rooms. Privacy and relaxation have got to be considered for all.

A jr suite(I think they call them deluxe rooms,now) at the WL could be a solution. This accomodation has 2 queen beds in the main bedroom separated from a parlor by French doors. The parlor has a queen sleeper sofa, a wet bar and fridge and a small dining area.

If not try 2 connecting rooms at Coronado Springs.

My DH and I have taken our DD and family to WDW (6) and even when my grandson was an infant, we always did a suite or connecting rooms. Keeps everyone friendly that way.

Depending on my budget, my choices would run in this order...

1) A villa at one of the DVC resorts
2) A Deluxe Suite of some kind, probably WL as it's the least expensive Deluxe
3) 2 moderates
4) Someone stays home


We don't like the All Stars so that wouldn't be an alternative for us.

If you have felt comfortable sharing a room in the past, I see no reason to change that for a WDW trip. I think that the deluxes offer so much more than the value hotels that having more space would not tip the scales for me. The restaurants, swimming pools and amenities are so much better, IMO, that I could stand to be slightly crowded. The deluxes have two queen beds and a day bed so there is actually plenty of room.

How old are you children? If they're of stroller-using and/or nap-taking age, one of the deluxe monorail resorts might be the way to go for convenience's sake.

Keep in mind if all five of you stay in one resort you will be charged for the extra adult. It is $25 I believe. There would be no way to exclude the person on the reservation because you wouldn't get the park passes of pay for 4 get 3 free. I would definitely get two rooms. Two bathrooms will be a plus.

Does anyone know the cost of a jr suite, villa or deluxe with the FT package for 5?
It would cost $1184.38 for myself and 2 kids, 14 and 9, at AS and $973.88 for my parents.
If I choose a moderate, the cost is $1385.07 for kids and I, and $1174.57 for parents.

I would get 2 adjoining rooms. Then you have the added advantage of an extra bathroom.

I looked at this issue for a 7 night FTP in September. The price for two rooms (Woodsview) at WL was about $300 more than a single GFLV, and about the same as GF Lodge Concierge. I went with the GF Concierge. 2 Adults, 3 children (7, 11, 13).


ALSO - The Deluxe WL rooms were not available for the FTP - or I would have probably done that - I doubt if any of the suites are eligible.


I have a feeling most people would have taken the WL rooms, but I saw it as the only opportunity I'll have to stay at the GF for this price. Monorail abd Concierge was a big plus for me as well.

The jr suite (which is the deluxe) is NOT participating in the FT package. I asked about that first, and then went with AKL for our family of 5. I am not sure about the villas, and I too have heard that there is limited availability period at WL. I debated two rooms at the AS or CBR, but in the end decided that at these prices I'd go for the deluxe (and my DH SNORES up a storm - the PRIMARY reason for considering two rooms, so you see how badly I wanted to go deluxe this time !) Let us know your decision!

Our family of five always stays together in a deluxe resort - but we only have two adults - 3 kids. Especially since you will have to pay an extra $25/night for the extra adult - I would probably go with the two rooms. Sometimes a little alone time goes a long way on a trip like this! I've found that now that my parents are older - they like to follow a routine in the morning - that just wouldn't work in a room with my kids! It's fine for the 5 of us - we live together all the time - even if it isn't in one room!

Since I wasn't paying attention and didn't consider that you say your family always shares a room, I'd like to amend my opinion slightly.

You know your family better than anyone. If sharing a room works, great! For some, it would drive them crazy, for others (like our bunch) it's not a problem!

So, if my choices were either 1 deluxe or 2 moderates or values, I choose 1 deluxe.

If you're considering the villas option, keep in mind there's no charge for extra adults. I wish I could have gotten the online site to work because I really don't think you're talking that much more to get a villa compared to what you were quoted for 2 moderates.

For me, I just wouldn't pay $2600 to stay 7 nights in a moderate resort!

If everyone gets along and you have stayed in the same room in the past, my vote would be to stay at a deluxe even if the room costs $25 extra a day because of the 3rd adult. Most of the time, people at Disney are only in the room long enough to sleep so it's not like 5 of you are going to be spending hours of your awake time sitting in the room. Have a great trip!

I think sharing 1 bathroom would be tough for 5 people so I'd vote for 2 rooms at a moderate. I love the deluxes but the ASMu was great too and I'd even do 2 rooms at an AS before having everyone in 1 room at a deluxe. I think it would be pretty hectic in the morning with everyone trying to get into the bathroom and you could lose a lot of precious "park time" (which may not be a consideration when you share 1 room on other types of vacations).

I would definitely go for two rooms. You will be thankful for some space after touring around together. Also having two bathrooms is a huge bonus.
