1 Month Old....Am I Crazy????

We were planning on going to our virst MVMCP this December and low and behold my DW went and got pregnant. Our due date is early November and our trip was planned for early December. My DD (5) and DS (3) will be disappointed but they would easily forget (because my DD is super excited to be a big sis again).

My question is...Airports, Airplanes, Rental Cars, Hotels and Theme Parks with a 1 month old...should I cancel or has anyone done this (with at least 1 other child).

Would love to hear your opinion as my DW is needing some reassurance or she's not going to be game.

A one month old on an airplane, and in crowds in December (flu, colds, etc) is not really a good idea. You Dr. would most likely agree. You wife may also not be feeling quite up to par yet either. I really think I would rethink the trip. Congratulations on the new "surprise".

Definitly postpone the trip! At 4 weeks the baby will still be getting into a routine, DW will still be recovering. Even a "normal" delivery you are supposed to recover for 6 weeks. If she were to go overdue that could mean only 2 weeks post delivery. If she had to have a c-section there is no way she'd be allowed to go.

I've been with my kids at 5 & 7 months and 7 months was great, 5 months (dd was 2) was a bit too young for my enjoyment.

Without a doubt, I would reschedule... You and your wife will most likely be exhausted anyway and wouldn't be able to enjoy WDW as much as you could...

Hi! I also just found out I am due in Oct. with my 3rd. I have two girls, ages 4 and almost 2, so pretty similar. We were also going to go in Dec of this year, but I have since decided to switch to May 2006. We have been to Disneyland with our girls, first one at 6 months, second one at 4 months and had a wonderful time. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I would definitely reschedule. I'm an OB nurse, and when we discharge our patients we tell them not to take the baby around any crowds for at least 2-3 mos. We stress grocery stores, malls, and church nurseries. WDW has a lot more crowds and germs than those places, plus it can be really cold at night to have a newborn outside.

I have a three week old right now and I can tell you with the flu season I would say no go(only because of the plane really) My ped. told us to avoid confined spaces with the baby- but as this is our 4th if you were driving I would probably go. We are going when baby is 4 months old. I planned the trip a week before I was due(get ready for those crazy hormones! )

I would never take a one month old on a plane, let alone on a plane during cold & flu season!

Reschedule your trip for spring & enjoy your holidays with the new baby!!

Sorry to say, I agree with the rest. That's RSV and flu season and they're definitely things you don't want your newborn exposed to. Can you just tell your kids you're rescheduling until the spring?

I am goign to buk he trend. I went to WDW with my daugher when she was 2&1/2months old. I drove down by myself with her 20 month old brother. I didnt say in a hotel I stayed with close freinds. It was nice to get a change of pace. I would ask your peditrician what they think before you make any decisions.

Congrats!!!! I was in a similar situation last year! We're all the way over in Ireland and back in the summer of 2003 we planned our once-in-a-lifetime trip for early June 2004 (well it was being roughly planned for many years). Nothing was actually booked yet but we finally had the money, we had rough plans and the boys (at the time they were 9 and 6) were obviously totally psyched up about it. Like your wife, I too went and got myself pregnant rotfl2: ) and baby was due March 2004 so I knew then that the trip would be postponed (or, worst case, put off forever) because we're talking about a 9 hour flight each way from here, different climate (completely) etc. etc.. However, the boys were over the moon to hear of the arrival of a new brother or sister. and the trip was put off. It was always on the back of my mind though. My thinking was that she should be 5mths minimum when we go but that timing wasn't possible due to work schedules/school etc. and not to mention the fact that our baby single-handedly ate through all our savings, what with her constant partying and penchant for designer labels etc. (well to be fair.... her cot, strollers, nappies, you know the drill ).

So, a few months ago, we finally did start to re-plan our trip and we're going in June of this year. (she's had to cut out her splurging on designer clothes ). She'll be 15 months. So we get our once-in-a-lifetime trip to WDW *and* our wonderful baby girl!!! Who knew you could have it all?!!

So, after all that rambling on and on, my point is it *will* happen but just not as soon as you wanted. I totally agree with the other replies. As you already know, from previous births, it takes quite a few weeks to get back to normal (weeeeeell, you *never* get back to normal, but back to *some* kind of schedule ). If she is overdue (quite common) or if she needs a c-section.... lots of "ifs" in there. Also, I wouldn't want that kind of pressure weighing on me when I'm about to go and deliver a baby!!! It could push a new mom over the edge and into a depression (totally serious here) having to think about planning and packing and airlines etc. when she's just about struggling to get in a shower every day!!!!

If it were me and if your baby doesn't eat up all your spare cash )) I would re-book for Spring 2006. It will be a wonderful treat for your wife, something to look forward to during those tough months of pregnancy. Your children will be totally excited about having a new brother/sister *and* a trip to WDW. Life doesn't get much better than that

We're going when my new son will only be a weeks old. We're not sure when he's due to arrive, the little bugger didn't tell me the exact date, just a general 4 week guideline.

We aren't flying, we're driving. Most airlines will not let you take a baby less than 6 weeks old on an airplane. We took my dd on a cross country flight at 6 weeks old, 2 weeks adjusted age because she was premature. Breastfeeding incurs so many immunities that I wasn't worried at all, and lo and behold she didn't get sick. I think if your DW is going to breastfeed, it's fine.

Anyway, so we're taking our very brand new baby to DW. We had planned on going in July, but because of my dh's job we can't all of a sudden. I should mention that my dh is a Pediatrician, and has no problem with it at all. He's always amazed when he sees patients at the 2 month well baby visit asking when they can take the baby out. There's really no reason not to take them out right away if you are breastfeeding. And also don't let a bunch of strangers paw and sneeze all over them, but that's just common sense.

I say, go for it!! Life is an adventure, sometimes you just have to jump in with both feet and enjoy the ride!

We had a trip planned for this June and oops!!! We have a baby due in May. After alot of consideration and input from co-workers (I'm a cardiac nurse). We decided to extend our VB vacation and cancel the Disney portion. Granted its in the hot summer but as others have mentioned RSV, colds, flu and so on. My kids who are 15 and 12 were upset but understand and I bribed them with a 2 week trip for the next summer. So now they are happily awaiting their little sister.

I would kill my husband if he suggested going to WDW 4 wks after having a baby! Your wife might do just fine and the baby may do swell, but maybe not. I was so sick following the birth of #3(Pneumonia) and couldn't go anywhere for nearly 6 wks. Even taking care of the kids, then 2 & 9, was difficult.

No way would I take a neonate( under 30 days) into WDW at that age. Breast-feeding or not, that's just not a wise idea. Babies are the most vulnerable during the first 3 months--all the immunity they have is what they were born with and what they get through their mother's milk. That might be enough or it might not, depending on what germs other people bring to the park.

Well, one of my children was born three weeks late. That is unusual, but the point is that you could have a baby who's less than one month old!

I would seriously postpone this trip. 3 and 5 year olds don't have too much concept of 1 month from now vs. 6 months from now -- it's all far away. And if you explain it as, "We're waiting until summer because then the new baby will be old enough to enjoy the trip too", they're likely to be understanding.

You'll still be dealing with no sleep, etc. I don't think it'd be much of a fun trip.

I would reschedule the trip. Either spring/summer 2006. As many others have said, baby may not come on time, complications, c-section, and to not risk them getting sick at a young age. Her body will still be recovering.

I would definitely concur with everyone else and suggest you post pone. I had my 3rd this past August and had toyed with a vacation to a cottage with family when he would have been 4 weeks old.

Months before the delivery we ended up deciding against it. The timing was just too risky.

As it turned out DS was 1 1/2 weeks over due and then had a reaction to a immunization and ended up in the NICU for 2 days. When it came around to the time we would have gone on the vacation, I was sooo glad we declined. I even noted "were we nuts for even considering it!" I was just too exhausted and a 3-week old is just too demanding for a vacation to be any fun.

The thing with newborns is they sleep and eat thats about it so they are pretty toteable. More so than an older infant. You will have feedings alot but I don't think you will find it all that much of an additional hassel. You will have to go slow and take many breaks for feedings but slow is probably how you do it anyhow with 2 others.

I don't think its crazy at all. My step sister brought her little one who at time was 5 months and she was excellent all day slept and just looked around.

I also agree it will be cutting it close and some women go up to 2 weeks past due date. Most drs wont induce until 2 weeks past. So maybe a reschedule for sprint or summer would be best.

Just wanna say my mom took me when I was 4 weeks old my grandparents live there and my mom and dad wanted them to see me right away anyway I was perfectly fine. I did not get sick but they drove they did not fly. I was a Nov baby too. I was breastfed and didn't get sick once despite the fact that she got back from Florida and 2 weeks later went to Minnesota(on Canada border) when I was 6 weeks old to visit other family. My point is you can travel without babies getting sick. flu is unlikely and I personally think RSV is over diagnoised. My daughter has had neither but my friends sons both had RSV a few times. My guess is its because my dd is summer(July) baby and not winter baby.

Still think if possible reschedule for spring the weather will be a bit warmer anyway.
