For anyone who went last Aug or Sept. for the free dining, if you got a one day ticket and did not use it, did it expire?
I will be going in two weeks and we will be activating our AP's so when I book free dining for next Aug. I won't need the one day ticket you have to buy, I would think this ticket does not expire but am not sure.
Thanks for any info on this.

no they do not exprire. since you never activated them (buy using them) they do not expire. i confirmed this with several CM's including managers before and during my stay.

we purchased 1 one day park passes for each member of our family. they were put on our room key along with our dining credits. we used them to get in and out of our room and when cashing in dining credits, but we never used them to get into a park. (we used our AP's for that.)

they are still good and i plan to use them as credits towards future AP's or MYW ticket media.

However, unless you are DVC staying on points, to get the Dining Package (whether free or paying) under current rules it must be part of a package which included room at rack rate and tickets.

They don't expire, but your plan for this next year won't work. You have to buy at least a one day ticket to qualify for free dining. You don't have to use it, but you do have to buy it. I had an AP valid for our September 06 trip, and still had to buy the one day pass. I will be using it to upgrade to our next years APs, but if we want to do free dining again, I'll be buying another one day park pass.

I looked at it as a "down payment" toward next years AP.

I believe the OP does plan on buying the one day pass this year. He just wanted to make sure it could be saved for a future trip instead of having it expire at the end of his upcoming trip.

I did know I had to buy it, I just wanted to know if it would still be good for a future visit or for a upgrade later.

Yes, it will be valid until used for park entrance, or applied to other ticket purchase.

BUT, keep in mind, Disney can change things at any time. It's entirely possible that if Free Dining is offered to the general public, Guests will be required to purchase tickets matching their stays.

We did free dining last year and got 1 day tickets. My husband used his to uprgrade to AP. I already had AP, so I didn't use mine. On our last day I stopped in at Guest Relations at DTD and had the ticket taken off the "Hotel Key" and given to me as a paper ticket. I was afraid I would forget the hotel key had a ticket on it and throw it away. They would not do this at the hotel for me, but when I asked at GR at DTD they had no problem at all. The ticket has the date printed on the back, but no expiration date and everyone I asked before and during my trip said that it would not expire. I will use it to upgrade later or for family when they come to visit. Hope my experience helps. Of course, the rules could change at any time.

The biggest danger with 1 day basics is that the ability to upgrade may be removed sometime in the future. Although the ticket will still be valid for a day's admission, the only other choice would be trading in its approximately $65. value towards another ticket whose first day might cost something like $115. at the time.
