Hi there - we had an odd number of points kind of lurking out there + the memebrship magic perk of getting the 2 for 1 add on points so we deciced to add a night to our trip!

Unfortunately we could not get it at the resort we will be staying at (VGF) so had to book a one night stay at Animal Kingdom - Jambo.

Just wanted to see what people think of this idea. My wife is a bit leery about it as we have just the one night there and transferring may be a pain. I thought it would be fun for the kids (2 and 5) and give us a chance to see another resort. Bonus - we can use that first day to explore and then hit AK our next day!

Any thoughts on a 1 day split stay? Thank you!

Enjoy it! Disney will transfer your bags for you (won’t transfer perishables) so as long as you are fine not getting your bags until 5pm you can spend the day at AK and bus straight to VGF from there.

I agree! Do I just tell them at at AKL when we arrive? Never done the baggage transfer. THanks!

Nope, just tell bell services when you checkout. You can drop your bags at the bell station or call to have them picked up from your room (you need to be present for that). They will give you a tag receipt. Bell Services will handle bringing the bags to GF. Once at GF you can retrieve them from bell services or you can call bell services from your room and have them delivered. Disney usually aims to have bags at your destination resort by 5pm-ish.

I did it on my last trip, and am doing it again in January-one day splits can be fun. I did the first night at Kidani last year, and I think either Kidani or Jambo is good for a split-just hang around the resort, eat at Mara, have breakfast down at Sanaa QS while viewing the animals. Next year, Southwest was kind enough to encourage me to do another one day split. They're going to assigned seating the day I was due to fly to Disney, so in order to avoid the madhouse I expect the first day to be, I'm flying a day earlier and staying at VGF to see the EWP. I like to plan resort-only activities for that one day, enjoy!

We did it last January in the Poly tower! I say go for it, great way to see a new resort. I love utilizing bell services to move luggage. They’ve always been great. FYI, if you call to have them pick up from your room, call 30 minutes before you need to leave, it can take a bit for them to get to you, especially at AKV. When you get to your room at VGF, you can call have have them bring you luggage up to your room there. 🙂

We do it a lot. Coming from the West coast, we don't ever arrive much before 6 pm. Rather than use points for that first night, we usually get a room at whatever value is cheapest. It's just the two of us, though. We generally go to DS for dinner, spend the night and then transfer to DVC and start our "real" vacation the next morning.

For us, doing this really reduced the stress of arrival day.

I am excited already and the trip isn't until December!
