I'm wondering if there are 1 BR units anywhere that will sleep 5. I realize that the DVC units don't, but I wonder if there are any other places that do. What about the HGVC or Marriott or Sheraton?

There will be some 1BR at DVC Animal Kingdom Villas for 5. There will be a pull out sofa and a pull out chair in the living area. I know a few folks who have registered 5 people for a DVC 1BR, so it can be done. However, you could get a 2BR cheaper than a DVC 1BR in most cases.

Are the AKL villas finished yet?

The reason I'm asking about this is because we would like to tag along for a conference with my dh, but according to his boss, it would have to be a one room or one bedroom situation. I don't think we could get reimbursed for his expenses if we book a 2 BR. I really wanted to have a washer/dryer, as my dh would probably have use for this anyway if he were traveling alone. I just can't figure out anyway it will work for us unless we find some kind of a suite arrangement I guess.

I was under the impression (from another DIS-censored web site) that DVC "unofficially" allowed 5 people in their 1BR units, but you'll have to provide all bedding for the fifth person---e.g. an aerobed plus sleeping bag and pillow.

I can't think of many others. You might be able to find some of the suite hotels with two queens in the BR plus a pull out couch; that should sleep six, but it won't have in-unit laundry. Most timeshare units only have a single bed in the BR though.

DVC allows 5 in a 1 BR, but (other than Animal Kingdom villas) they do not provide bedding for the 5th person. We have 9 booked for a 2 bedroom next summer, but they will only provide bedding for 8 (my nephew is going to bring an air mattress and sleeping bag---he is 8 and doesn't mind at all).

There are also some family suites at the All Stars that sleep 6, but I have never seen them. There are some pictures at this site taken before they were available (but I believe they are now being used):

There are pictures of all of the DVC resorts on this site also:

the 1-bedroom at AKV is definitely opened.

You can get a standard or savannah with a 1-bedroom for 5.

the only thing you can't get is the value 1-bedroom that is for 4.

expecting any day for DVC and CRO to STOP taking reservations for more than 4 at any DVC resort except for AKV with a 1-bedroom.

besides the 1-bedroom at AKV is lovely!!!

they are currently working on AKV in both the lodge and outside (putting up a separate building too)

you will need to call CRO.

right now the website is still refusing to admit that AKV exist.

I wanted a kitchenette once on a business trip because my family went along. Our rules allowed me to just pay the extra over the charge for the type of room they would have paid for. In other words, if the room the company would have booked was $75 and I choose one that was $95, I paid $20 a day and they paid the rest.

Maybe your husband's company will allow that sort of arrangement and you can book what you want.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I think we've found something that works for this trip, but next time I'll be on the lookout for the villas at AKL.
