We will have a car since we're driving down so transportation doesn't have to be an issue. We haven't stayed at either resort yet.

Which one should we do and why?

If you don't need the 2 BR then go to VWL. It is an amazing resort!!

There are disadvantages and advantages to both.
At OKW:
the good
2 bedroom is very large, around 1300 sq ft
park close to your room
full size washer/dryer
the bad
it is a large resort
more like staying at a condiminium
might be far from restaurant

VWL
the good
close to MK
wonderful theming
closer to resort restaurant
the bad
smaller room
stacking washer/dryer
can not park near your room

It all depends on what is important to you on your trip. I've stayed at both and even though OKW is larger, I prefer VWL. WL has much more of a WOW factor and I always get a very happy contented feeling at WL or VWL.

Very well said, but I would also add, it depends on how many people are staying as well.

It depends. If I didn't need the 2BR and I was going to spend a lot of time at the MK, I'd probably go to the VWL, since it has boat access to the MK and the CR, where you could get the monorail to the other 2 monorail resorts and the TTC to get to Epcot if need be. You also have boat access to FW, which can be a fun place from what I understand. The rooms at VWL are smaller than OKW, but I don't know if that's a consideration. VWL is overall more compact, and you'd probably have quicker access to the main area(restaiurants, shops, check-in) than you might at OKW, depending upon where in the OKW complex your unit was located.

OKW is more like a condo. You can park close to your unit, the main area is sort of a like a little "town center". Some of the units are within a clsoe walking distance, and others are quite far away. If that is a consideration to you for some reason, you could always request a unit near the mai area. There are 3 buildings at OKW with elevators. If you have someone in youor party who has difficulty with stairs, that is another consideration. Those 3 buildings are also close to the main area. OKW rooms are huge, the main pool is nice (althoug depending on when you're going to be there, it may be closed because they are adding a slide).

They are both lovely resorts, very different in layout and "feel". VWL has always been, to me, a very serene resort. OKW is relaxed in a beachy, Jimmy Buffett sort of way.

Not a bad dilemma to have, right?;)

If you have more than 2 people than a 2 bedroom is the answer, a one bedroom is really for two people. If there is only two of you then I think you would enjoy WLV.

Not to be flip about this, but if you have a coin, give it a toss - heads OKW, tails VWL. Then on your NEXT trip, stay at the resort that lost out this time around. One of the major perks about DVC is being able to sample all of the resorts and though you may find after staying at a few resorts that you like one more than the others, you really can't go wrong no matter where you stay. Good luck!

It really depends on how many are in the room and the time of year you are going. If you're going during the winter holidays, I would say definitely VWL without a doubt. OKW has lots of space and it's beautiful (I'll be there in a month :Pinkbounc ), but really if you're going to be hanging around the resort a lot and have kids with you, I'd pick VWL because of the bike rentals, boats, pool, and beach area.

Both resorts are beautiful, but I have a real affection for VWL. It has an amazing look, feel and ambiance to it. It's like you've left Florida entirely and are in the great Northwest. Fantastic restaurants, AMAZING architecture and theming, fabulous pool. Great transportation to MK, pretty good transportation everywhere else. We never thought before we stayed there that we would love it anywhere near as much as we do.
