I don't really have time for a full trip report so I figured I'd just post some highlights/observations and tips.

1) One definate highlight was our server team. We had Adrian as our server with Joyce as the assistant and John as the head and what a fabulous team they were! The first night Adrian asked if we trusted him on dessert and we did and he brought one of each (oink!) The next night we ordered dessert and he had already correctly guessed all of the desserts we would order and had them there already! The next night I told him that he had done so well, he could just order my whole meal for me. The rest of the table quickly followed suit and it became a big joke that Adrian would give us the menus and then immediately take them away.

I have to tell you, if you have a great waiter and if you are not particularly fussy about food, this is the way to go. I remember some meals being mediocre on my last cruise but this time everything was wonderful. Those guys really know what's good and what's not and you can't really go wrong this way! It was so luxurious to not have to make any decisions, but it was so hard to order ourselves at Palo on our last night without Adrian to do it for us!

2) We upgraded at the port to a cat 6 and LOVED the verandah. I wouldn't go as far as to say that we could never go back again because I did actually miss our long walks around the deck at night but it was equally lovely to order cheese and crackers and have a snack on the verandah.

3) the famed LOBSTER was there at the adult beach lunch area. It amazes me how this little bbq spot does not appear in any official DCL literature!

4) I got a cold on my third day and although it did put a bit of a damper on things, I still had a good time (just slept a lot, which wasn't a problem with the extra sea day since we missed grand cayman). Because of this we decided not to snorkel in Cozumel as we had originally planned to but take the Atlantis sub excursion instead.

You take a cab over there and that was a near disaster. I didn't quite understand what the guide was saying but something about the union there was causing a snag in cabs and the line was HUGE. We ended up waiting about a half hour for a cab to get there. During this time some people on line became the ugly American, yelling and becoming quite irate at the guides who didn't seem like they could do anything but offer refunds and take down the cabin numbers. Note that not everyone who asked for a refund was ugly about it, there were many who just could not for whatever reason stand there and wait for a cab for who knew how long, but the ones who got ugly made me feel embarassed to be an american.

The excursion was expensive, $75, and I did not feel like it was worth it. After taking it I wish that we had asked for a refund and skipped it as well. There wasn't a whole lot to see down there for whatever reason (strong currents I'm guessing, but what do I know about such things?). The people who work for Altantis are very nice, however and there did appear to be some families on the sub who had a great time just being in a sub and seeing a few fish and the reef. For us, though, it felt like a big waste of money and was the most disappointing part of the trip.

Overall we had a GREAT time. My favorite port was Key West as there is lots of historic architecture to see there and I would LOVE to go back (it's kind of hard to see much when you get there at 12:30 and everything closes at 5). Slightly disappointed to miss Grand Cayman but we ran into some people who could do nothing but complain about that fact and why we didn't try harder to get there so it made us realize just how ridiculous we would sound to complain about it. I guess we will just have to take another western cruise!

I felt the same way about the Atlantis submarine at St. Thomas.

Do you remember if you dining room manager, John's last name was Cunningham? And was he from Scotland?

allears, yes, that's the John! As I mentioned, I had a cold and because of it was feeling rather cold in most of the ships areas. I wore a fleece for half the cruise and I can still hear him commenting on my "Jumper" in that accent! I assume you've had him before?

Dave, I normally would not have booked an excursion without extensive research, but with my cold we were glad we hadn't booked any snorkel excursions and were just planning to cab it over to Chankanaab. We booked the sub on a whim the morning of (and I think got the last two available slots) figuring at least we'd be able to see some fish without getting pnemonia. That'll teach me to book something without doing research first! Oh well. It wasn't awful or anything, just not anywhere near worth the cost.

Thanks Lisa,
Yes he was our server last year. My kids, dd 15, ds 12 and ds 6 fell in love with him. He was awesome. My kids have even kept in touch with him throughout the year. We are going to try by calling DCL and/or when we get on board to request his table. I'm excited to hear that he seems to have received a promotion. His service was in his favorite word...excellent! My daughter is convinced that some how we'll under his care again.

Thanks for the quick response back!

I'll ditto the "fair-to-just-OK" comments on the Atlantis sub excursion.

To me, the "quality" time of taking just my two boys (DS - 6 at the time) was what apperaled to me, "just Daddy and the boys".

They loved the fact hat they were on a "real" submarine. The boat ride out to the sub was lots of fun as well, we got to enjoy the scenery and the speed of the boat (we did the excursion in St. Thomas.)

But for that kind of money, although the undersea was beautiful, we didn't really see that many fish other than the ones attracted to the food (it was tied to the sub as a lure).

It was one of those "if you look REALLY far out there to the left and squint just right, you can see a stingray" deals.

It was OK to do once, but I won't do it again.

Hi Lisa,

We had too Adrian as a server March 2 2002. He was so nice. We are French Canadian and he always had a few French word with the girl.

He made our trip and all the family miss him a lot.

Did he mentionned if he will be on the Magic for a long time ?

Hey Lisa....I agree that some people just like to complain. To clarify for those people it was not DCL's decision not to dock at Grand Cayman....it was the Grand Cayman Port Authority's decision not to let us dock/anchor, whatever you call it. I am sure they do not make those decision lightly either....as it means a lack of tourist dollars for the island.

We saw people flipping out at guest service because the updated Navigators were not out by 9:00 am as originally stated. People were really getting into the CM's faces. The Navigators finally came out around 10:00 and people were mobbing the poor CM handing them out. I also heard people complaing that Disney should be better able to control the weather....can you believe it!!!!

As I said...some people just like to complain!!!

We did the Jeep Safari in Cozumel and it was AWESOME!!! Well worth the DCL price of $84 per person. I got to drive the Jeep and had a ball!!!

THIS IS FOR MY TWO NIECES....KAREN 20 AND ANN 21 WHO TRAVELLED WITH US ON THE 1/4 CRUISE...THANKS FOR MAKING IT SUCH A FUN TRIP AND I AM SURE THE DIS'ERS WOULD WANT TO READ YOUR POSTS FROM A 20 AND 21 ONE YEAR OLDS PERSPECTIVE!!! STOP LURKING AND POST!!!! LOVE AUNT MJ

Momofofo,
We were on the 1/4 Magic also and were graced by the charm and excellent service provided by Adrian and Joyce. We mentioned to him that we are thinking about the Eastern in October or November. He told us that he wwould be going on holiday the end of February, but would definitely be back on by October if we would like to request him.
The Grand Cayman cancellation was initially a minor disappointment. Disney does an amazing job of putting together great activities last minute to fill the time. It ended up being our favorite day of all.
Hello to all of my fellow Dis-ers. MJ, thanks for making the name tags. Tink 33 and Cheryl, it was nice meeting you at the reception - too bad we didn't run into each other more often. Cruzinprincesses, if you need a Disney fix at the parks, I'm just 90 minutes away and can meet for the day(s)!!!!!
Did many people rebook on board? We're holding out for a good FL Resident rate for late fall/or next February.
Becky, Sarah or Robert, if you're reading this we hope your trip home went well, school is tolerable and the weather mild - it's still nippy here.
Take care,
Dawn Hope

If your aunt can't convince you, I'd love to hear some feedback from post-teens. I have an almost 19-year old girl and a 21-year old boy coming with us in July. Since at least one of them will be too old for CG, I'd like to get an idea of what they can look forward to.

Hi Dawn! Glad to see you all got back safe and sound! Hope you can get some warmer weather soon- it just snowed here! I'm thinking Castaway Cay sounds like a great place to be right about now!
Gometros, I am 23 and my sister is 21- we just returned from the 1/4 Magic cruise with our dad and we had a great time. As far as what your son and daughter can look forward to- Sarah and I thought they offered a lot of fun "adult only" things, both things that we were able to do with our dad (like dueling pianos) and things that we did by ourselves (such as the 80's night dance party- he couldn't quite get into the whole smoke-and-loud-music club thing :D). We also found some of the family oriented activities fun as well, so we definately kept busy. If you have any other questions or would like more specifics, just let me know!
Becky

Becky....we were at 80's night as well on the 1/4 cruise....my son was Bon Jovi (loved that wig) and my daughter and niece were each one of the Go Go's. We had an awesome time!!!!

We went to every theme night, too bad I didn't know who you were at the time...we would have introduced ourselves!!!!

Did you catch the Gloria Gayner incident with the mother, father, and son....that was just too funny!!! Isn't Ian a hoot???

MJ

We must have missed the Gloria Gaynor incident. But, I do remember Ian and I thought he, and really all the entertainment CMs, were great- very funny. Next time I will have to pay closer attention to the boards before we go (this time I was just too busy with finals and Christmas and everything) so that we can meet everyone!

MJ
Did you happen to see the Travolta contest? The youth minister was hilarious.
Gene

Yes...that whole scene was just too funny. Ian didn't know what to think. Gloria Gaynor certainly did not want to dance infront of her son and hubby (the minister) but then let it all hang out!!! She was just too funny.

MJ

Hi Disneygal!!!
Ashley is having serious withdrawal...I might take you up on your offer sooner than later...All DIS'ers cross fingers and send cruiseships FULL of Pixie dust! I am applying for a job in Orlando!!Not disney, unfortunately:( But I'll be close)
When are we all going back????

MJ
Did you see the Rich Purpura Magic Show on Thursday night? Unfortunately, I was the last person in our group and had the "front" row seat. Teach me to be late. :o

Oh...so that was you.....our group was sitting to the left of the stage in the front row (if you were facing the stage). I was picked to hold one of the cards during the show. Rich Purpura was great. We have seen his show 3 times already on the Magic and we still laugh....especially at the Buffalo sounds.....how about that guy who blurts out from the audience....."I own two buffalos" what was that all about????

Funny stuff!!!
