1/3/09 Magic - First Time To St. Croix

We stay at the La Quinta airport west...sadly, we are not on an unlimited budget. This is a decent, clean hotel with a full HOT breakfast. They are 30 minutes from the port, and through AAA, we got our room for about $65. Last time we had been at WDW b4, but the cruise prior we got in late (drove the 7 hours after work) so I can't attest to the pool's status...guess I'll find out this trip.

Hmmm...shirts you say??? The gym where I work is in the process of purchasing a shirt press for our own use...our owner-who just happens to be coming on this cruise :goodvibes -is tired of having to pay to have somebody screen the copious amounts of shirts we go through. I wonder what's involved in getting a logo onto a transfer...
ALSO, our former office manager left to open her own custom embroidery shop...I just happened to see a listing on ebay of DCL patterns, and sent it to her. She bought it, so if we want anything done embroidery wise, I can hook you up there too! :grouphug:

I love the ideas you offered for the t-shirt press and the coworker who now owns an embroidery shop. We have some friends we rarely see who also have an embroidery shop but I have never used them.:rolleyes1

Also, t-shirt color and size would need to be determined... but this is a cool cruise to go on and the tshirt would be a great memory and great pics! So what does everyone on the DISboard list for this cruise think about doing tshirts for all the family? Let's say if the shirts cost $10.00 each if we use the same logo... it may be more or less... but just as a ballpark ... I also am not on an unlimited budget ... but knowing ahead of time I think this would be a great souvenier from this trip!

Ideas and suggestions or comments anyone????:yay: :yay: :yay:

I love that idea... and clean and low price is sooo important... pool doesn't have to be paramount.. but we can get there early evening and the kids will have pent up energy... but to stay by the port and find a place that has a shuttle service or ability to leave our van there without worry of towing is important in planning the hotel as parking is now $15.00 /day for 8 days on a 7 night cruise adding $115.00 that could be the hotel expense all together.... just an idea.

On the upper left of the shirt??? With the title from Brack and Disney Magic in a larger font or different font from the places and date...

Is the date important?

Is the logo all we really want?

Just throwing out ideas since this seems pretty cool so far.... :cool1:

We like the date on them. That is how we remember what year we did what cruise. It does not seem possible that it was 2002 that we did the DVC first Members Only Cruise....but that is what the shirts say!

This looks more like an embroidery job... this is how the idea is looking right now but it could be really cool to have an outline in yellow (sticking with disney blue, red, and mustardy yellow) of mickey's head... on the left upper in a polo shirt style? or something like that? We can check prices with our vendor friends that embroidery and see what it would cost per shirt to do the same design... but does everyone that is in our group right now good to do that if we finalize this as the logo???? we can still come up with something else ... until we order the shirts that is. But by getting our deal set now... we can finalize in November to have them when we board the ship... or have mailed them before so we are all wearing freshly washed shirts for the group pic the first day!:cloud9: :dance3:

I am getting excited.! One more look at this and post any other ideas you have... or logo changes you have... :surfweb:

This is nice. I like the embroidery idea. :thumbsup2

I made an embroidered t-shirt for everyone on our 04 couples cruise. We had the 'logo' on the front and a different quote on the back that reflected each persons personality. In fact....if you look at krhardy's avatar that is the main part of the logo. It said, Reality Break '04 in and arc on top and Parrots of the Caribbean in an arc below. We still wear ours!

I only had 8 to make and used my MILs mondo sewing machine that has all the embroidery programming stuff built into it. The t-shirts were gifts to my fellow group cruisers. I can't do for the whole DISmeet group! :scared1:

I'm willing to send a shirt and pay for the embroidery. I know as far as embroidery goes we are limited to what patterns and fonts the service provider has. There are programs that will convert a .tiff, .jpeg, .gif, .eps etc. to an embroidery format, but that is an expensive proposition...it is not an easy task. You have to dictate what thread colours go where, how many stitches, what direction stitches go in, what gets an outline what doesn't...etc. Trust me I know because DH and I looked at doing that when I was coming up with the '04 shirt! After looking at all that...we opted form what was available preprogrammed into DMILs disks!! Land's End might be a resource though. *IF* enough if us do this we can easily split the art work set up charge for a custom shirt.

All that said, we need to keep in mind restrictions on production as we design something. Either we go with a screen process on a t-shirt, iron on transfer (not my fav) or embroidery it will all dictate the final design. Sorry, I deal/have dealt with production and design issues enough to know where we have to be realistic. Not to squash ideas or dreams just throwing a dose of reality in there.:confused3

Besides, we have a good bit of time left to hash this stuff out.

OK...here's the breakdown from my end...we can get shirts through our wholesaler for around $2-$3 each...then, if we want to screen it, the imprint for the shirt press is around $1/imprint. So, we'd be looking at about $5/shirt if we went that route. Keep in mind that this is not the iron on stuff you get at Michaels, but a professional shirt press. So, the results would be like a t-shirt that you might buy at the mall.
If we wanted to go with embroidery, I'm not sure how much Heather (my friend) would charge for the shirts. But, she already has a bunch of letter fonts, so that would probably only be a few $$ per shirt. She DID purchase a set of DCL embroidery logos that are compatable with her machines, so we could have something DCL. If we were to want something custom that had to be digitized, I believe that she said digitizing setup is $80/1000 stitches...a typical pocket design has around 5000 stitches. Sooo, we would definitely have to share that cost...I think all that said, we can go with something else that she might already have, and be just as happy...as I said she has TONS of stuff already in her computer that is hooked up to her machines.
Just spitballing.

This is a link to a set of designs just like she bought...there are tons of other Disney embroidery sets available on ebay cheap, and they are compatable with her machine. I don't know if she'd be willing to pay for them, but I don't see why not as she would then be able to use them in her shop for other clients. Even if she didn't want to, they're cheap enough that it wouldn't be a big deal.

I like it :thumbsup2 I also like the embroidery idea :thumbsup2

If I were making a shirt just for me like this I would add some sort of Mickey ::MickeyMo icon ..... any of the ones from the link krhardy posted would be good to me.

..... just posting my ideas

Kelley,
How many colours in the t-shirt imprint? Is it and iron on or screen process?
Just thinking for this and "other" things.:upsidedow

That's a good question...Bobby said that the DFS logo was going to cost around $1 for the back of the shirts...full size. We use 3 colors, I think. The front pocket, he could still get a *sheet* of logos for the same price, but the sheet would have 6-8 pocket sized logos on it. Make sense?

Hi all found this board this am and just got through reading all threads on this link I definately cant wait to meet you that is if you have room for another? We sailed the first time on magic this Jan with my parents. And we get to go again wooohoo!!! cant wait. I am a single mom 2 kids DD is 16 and DS is 11 my DD will not be going on this cruise(her choice) she will be a senior in high school and it was too hard for her to make up the time off this last cruise. I am sad she is not going as this will be the last year she can go to the stack she will be 17 soon. I want to join in FE exchange and my parents might as well they will have their own room. They say I stay out too late. I will ask them if they want to join this group. I dont know what are rooms are yet I will find out soon. I have so many questions as I am new to all of this. Wish I would have found you guys last year when I was planning.:goodvibes

Welcome to the DIS and welcome to our cruise. We have a fun group here.:flower3:

Thanks and I will help with the FE in anyway I can. So will there be pirate night since we are going to St Croix instead of St Maarten also will we have immigration I was thinking yes to both? Also are there any singles going with us? Many more questions to come but we have plenty of time

Can I just say, that I need this vacation...NOOOOOW!!
First, let me say how much I looove and adore my children. HOWEVER, this morning I was reminded why some species eat their young! I really wish that somebody had told me that the sleepless nights of infancy were the EASY part (not that I would have believed them if they had!:earboy2: )
And it doesn't seem that the day is shaping up any better. DH can't "get away" from work (he works for a church) to come be with us this afternoon before he's supposed to be back. This, after his day off on Friday that he had to go in for, and yesterday he was running sound for an outside event during a TORNADO! I called him to tell him it was headed straight for him, and he (who is a self proclaimed weather-phobe) did not seek shelter until the hail started pummeling he himself.
OK...I'm done rambling...I'm sure tomorrow will be a better day. I just needed to vent. I can't be the only one who doesn't just WANT this vacation, but NEEDS it right now!

I know that many people say this and I feel for them but My DS (now 35yo) was just great his whole life. I kiss him everytime I see him!

Your DH sounds like me :confused3 I work for a church and run the sound for most events. I too would probably get caught in a storm. :lmao:
